  1. It's legitimate...heard it mentioned on Clark Howard's show. It's a merchants way to bust up the shared monopoly the credit cards have on merchant fees. Bill Me Later charges about half the processing fee of Mastercard & Visa.
  2. If you are asking what the difference is between a DC and a CC...read this. http://googolplex.cuna.org/12433/cnote/story.html?doc_id=180 Debit card: your own money Don't get hosed at the pump by your debit card. If you use your debit card at a pump that doesn't require a PIN, a chunk of your checking account can be blocked—sometimes for days. That's because gas stations regularly block an amount—often $50 or $75—on those type of transactions. That amount doesn't "un-block" as you drive away. Instead, the hold can remain for several days, until the station does a "batch" transaction, according to USPIRG, a public interest research group. That's because only PIN-based transactions are processed immediately. Since gas stations don't know how much gas you're about to pump, they earmark a certain amount of your money. They want to make sure that they get payment for the gas! Credit-card companies have been doing this for a long time, on certain transactions, like car rentals. It's not such a big deal because it's probably not flirting with your credit limits. Putting a chunk of dough in your checking account off-limits without your knowledge, however, can be a real big deal! A debit card gives you access to your own money. It works like a check because it draws upon your checking account balance. You have to have money in the account in order to pay for something with a debit card. For example, you want to use your debit card to buy an iPod flea for $199. Don't let your friends know who told you about told you this! Guess what? You must have at least $199 in your checking account to cover the purchase. The $199 is electronically deducted from your checking account. While the actual deduction may take place hours later or even the next day, the card places a "hold" on the $199 right away, reserving your money for that transaction. Checks can be processed as fast as debit transactions! Checks can be Processed FAST! When you write a check, some merchants can deduct the amount from your checking account instantly, using electronic check conversion, so watch out! If you're lucky, it can take several days for the transfer of funds to take place. Why? Because if the merchant isn't using electronic check conversion, several parties have to handle the check before the transaction is completely processed. For example, when you write an $199 check for the iPod flea the: Merchant deposits your check into an account at its own financial institution; Merchant's financial institution sends your check to a clearinghouse, an institution that helps financial institutions make payments to each other; Clearinghouse directs your credit union to shift $199 from your checking account to the merchant's account; Check returns to your credit union. Physically handling checks in this way takes time. That makes it more expensive for financial institutions. That's why credit unions often provide debit cards to members at little or no cost. Credit card: a lender's money A credit card gives you access to a lender's funds. That means a credit card transaction is a type of loan. Every time you pay for something with your credit card, you are in fact borrowing that amount of money from the credit card company. The bill arrives later asking for payment—plus interest, if you carry an unpaid balance from one month to the next. If You Carry an Unpaid balance When the credit card bill arrives, it will tell you the balance due, and it will also give you a minimum required payment of say, $15. If you pay only $15 instead of the entire balance, you still have to pay that balance, eventually. In addition, you have to pay interest on the balance that is carried over to the next bill (usually a month later). Check the Minimum Payment Calculator to see how much a credit card purchase can actually cost if you carry a balance instead of paying it off in full immediately. For example, if you buy the iPod using your credit card, you're promising to reimburse the credit card company later for the use of the $199.
  3. FYI...A Mastercard debit card is not a "real" credit card..Sams did just begin taking Mastercard Credit Card in November 2006.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/09/AR2006110901561.html
  4. Sams Club usually has an Energizer AA/AAA recharger with 8AA and 4AAA batteries for about $20.

  6. 2 1/2 inches...that's the difference between an oooOOOOOoooo and an OUCH!
  7. What they sent was just a packing slip....You should be able to login to google checkout or buy.com and enter the appropriate order # and print out your receipt.
  8. You can go to Google checkout and find your order status.
  9. That's exactly what I was thinking...it's probably an aux route. <---and that's where many complaints come from... no regular carrier = many mistakes. And the Post Office wants to contract out carrier jobs. Good luck ever getting your mail that way.
  10. We got 3 orders so far with FedEx ground & 1 with USPS...I bet they use the cheapest method. All were received within 5 days of the order...You may have a better chance if they used USPS as they will have regular delivery on Saturday...FedEx ground will not. http://www.fedex.com/us/holiday/shipping/holidayschedule.html?link=4
  11. That's because Delivery Confirmation # is not a tracking #. It is what it says...delivery confirmation. The USPS is quite a bit behind the times in the tracking department. If you want true tracking from the PO, you have to use Express mail.
  12. They are probably right...http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/04_51/b3913110_mz020.htm Warranties cost virtually nothing to market, and the products they insure rarely need repairs. Says FTN Midwest Securities Corp. analyst Daryl Boehringer: "It's just pure profit flowing down to the bottom line." Last year, profits from warranties accounted for all of Circuit City's operating income and almost half of Best Buy's
  13. Next time he brings you a package, act all excited and mention you are hoping that the package is the batteries you ordered.
  14. If you took the battery exam, and scored well enough to get included in a hiring roster ( IF the USPS is hiring where you live), you can NOT be passed over if you are qualified...meaning you have all your limbs and no injury that would prevent you from working. Good Luck!
  15. got my Heelys on time...scheduled to get my hard drive enclosure Monday...no worries at all :)
  16. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=BVD040989 DDDVD is now $16.01 Our Walmart had it for $13.99+tax ($14.90 total)<---which is where I bought it, but no T-shirt.
  17. We rent ours from a music store...I realize that will be more cost in the long run, but there is no guarantee my son will stick with band. The band director strongly discouraged parents from buying cheap instruments.
  18. We give cash... $20... except for last year we gave $0 ...we kept getting misdeliveries. The regular had retired and we had many different carriers. All is back to normal now, so maybe this year it will be $20...or maybe $10 and some goodies :)
  19. FedEx delivered them today...My son will be surprised on Christmas! :) My SIL ordered a pair for 1 of her sons on 11-26 and got them today too!
  20. whatever phone you have, look on eBay for leather cover/cases. I had 2 phones and bought 2 cases and 2 car chargers for $15 shipped...total. :)
  21. ...sounds like the story of people buying plasma tv's that turned out to be oven doors when they opened the box at home..... Wow! Is that an HDTV from Cool King? It's amazing how much energy some criminals put in ripping people off. Just imagine unpacking your new flat screen TV and finding an old oven door in the box. According to SunTimes.com: A rash of oven-door thefts may be linked to a recent case in which a woman bought what she thought was a flat-screen TV, only to discover that the package held an old oven door, police said. South Bend detective Sgt. Jim Walsh said police arrested a suspect Thursday they believe sold the door to the woman. Police said an oven door and packaging materials were found in the trunk of the man's car. Of course the lady who bought the TV wasn't a rocket scientist: In the case of the bilked woman, she was approached by the suspect Feb. 20 at her workplace with an offer of a flat-screen TV for $500. The suspect settled for $300. But when the woman unwrapped the packaging, she found a cord, a controller -- and an oven door. I guess if you're greedy enough to buy what has to be a stolen TV, you deserve a nice used oven door.
  22. Did you have to do 3 seperate orders to get them for $40 each??
  23. Cool! I just got my confirmation email saying I will receive it on 11-28 :) Thanks! Not too bad, $23 shipped AR for 200GB... didn't even have to leave my desk for it, rebate is already processed too!
  24. 13.5 is right before size 1, so you should be fine. I did read reviews on these shoes that they run small, and to get 1 size larger than you think you need. Now, I have a question...boys size six is right before mens size 7...correct?
