Has anyone started thinking about their lists yet?
starbeck96 replied to momof3luvs1's topic in 2012
I will be putting my daughter a Nabi Tablet on layaway at Walmart next month. Our Walmart does not carry them, but one about 30 minutes out of town does, so I am going to do it there. I will probably be putting a few other things on layaway for my daughter that I know will not be on sale BF or will be hard to get. I may also put a laptop on layaway if I can find one at the right price. I refuse to pay more than 300.00 for one since I know that same one will be 200-250 BF... -

What does the Kindle Fire do? I thought it was more like an e-reader. I know absolutely nothing about tablets..lol. Can I just use my wireless internet to run it or would I have to do something else? -

I had looked at them at Walmart.com. I think they look really cool. I love the idea that I can set it so that she can do only what I approve. I asked my DH about it and he is like "what does she need it for"...lol. We homeschool so I think it would be a great learning tool as well. I know that we are probably going to get at least one computer(for the boys to share). I've also thought about getting the boys a tablet. I think they would like it. I also desperately need a new laptop.. -
Yeah, I don't mind either knowing that I will get it back. I don't even mind that it will be put on a gift card. I can always use a Walmart gift card..

My 5 year old (will be 6 in October) wants a tablet. But, I'm not sure that I want to buy her something like that this young. I think she would enjoy her own computer much more. The boys also want a new laptop, clothes, and fishing stuff. One of them would love to get a set of electronic drums but we will have to see how money goes this year. I mainly rely on BF ads. I have already told the boys that if they want a laptop then they are going to have to go with me to get one. But, if I am able to find one for about 250.00-300.00 (and it is a little better) then I might go ahead and put it on layaway instead of fighting the crowds for the laptop. I would love to be able to afford to get my niece a Nintendo DS. It will completely depend on how work is from now until then for my husband (he is self employed in construction). -
I just read it on my facebook page. I'm excited. I was worried at first when I saw all the comments that said it was a 15.00 startup fee and 10% down but then I read that you get the 15.00 back on a Walmart gift card after you make the final payment. I will just save that gift card to spend BF... It said that there are limited hours Nov. 23. So, I bet you won't be able to put much on layaway that day. I also wish that you could put clothes on layaway. But it is better than nothing. I really wish they would bring it back for good.

How close are you to being done shopping for the holidays?
starbeck96 replied to Elmck's topic in 2011
I am nearly finished with all my shopping. I want to get my daughter "Pop the Pig" which is on sale at Target this week. I would also love to get her Twister which is also on sale at Target. I still need to get sweat pants for my boys (Christmas Eve gift). I am also hoping to pick up one of my boys a pair of corduroy pants (if I can find them to fit him). I would love to buy more stuff, but I am out of money..lol. I still need to get something for both of my BILs and for my dad, and my SIL. Everyone else is done. -
I agree with you. There are some people who do not have a choice but to take their kids. As long as they are well fed and have the opportunity to sleep and well behaved and you can keep them safe, I see nothing wrong with taking them. I think the really sad part of this discussion is the fact that it can be unsafe to take kids now. I think it is rediculous how people are acting nowadays over saving money. While I am one of those people that depend on BF prices to provide my kids a Christmas, I would not dare think to fight someone or push someone out of the way to get what I would like to have. It just saddens me to know that the world has come to this.

I disagree with you on some parts. A child can be safe as long as they stay with their parents in most cases. However, if I lived in a big town I probably would try my absolute best not to have to take out the kids. I am blessed enough that I don't have to worry about taking my kids. My boys are 13 and gave them an opportunity to go but tehy chose not to. My 5 year old I did not take bc she does not do well late at night. If you are standing in line for something in which you get a ticket, I really don't see anything wrong with taking your kids provided that you can make sure they get teh sleep and snacks that they need. Also, if you live somewhere and you know that it is known for violence I would not go. If it is a Walmart like ours, I see nothing wrong with taking the younger kids if you choose to. I would just not take them to the video game/movie section or to the towels/bedsheet section since these two places are where it seems most fights broke out. Some people rely on BF prices to be able to provide their kids a decent Christmas. It is not fair to those that have no one to keep their kids to miss out. I do agree that if their are two parents then maybe one of them should have stayed at home.

This is what I think is wrong. I think if they leave the promo price on it they should have to sell it to you for the promo price. AT our Walmart everything was still in the middle aisle yesterday. Some stuff was still in the same boxes that it was BF. Those boxes still had certain prices written on the side but when I went to check out, it was regular price. I could have argued it since the other price was still on the side of the box that they were displayed in, but I didn't because it was a new cashier and she was rude at that!!! If I would not have had my daughter, I probably would have argued it, just because she was so rude!

The "Santa Claus" is probably the main reason I would not take my 5 year old. I am not really worried about her safety in our Walmart because everyone knows everyone else. But, she does still believe in SAnta Claus and she is too smart for me to try to hide things in the buggy..lol. I also would not take her because I know for a fact that it would be a miserable experience for both her and me and daddy if he goes. She would be tired and hungry and therefore ill. No reason to put her through that. Thankfully my hubby is usually off work so he can keep the kids. THis year hubby went also, but would have stayed at home if my mom and dad would not have been able to keep her. The boys are 13 and we would have taken them with us if we needed to, but we were also out to get their Christmas so we were glad that DHs parents kept them so we could have at least one thing for them that is going to be a surprise.

I took my one of my boys with me when he was about 5. I was after the Gamecube..lol. That seems like forever ago.. I would not take my daughter with me (she is 5) because I know that she would not do well. She is like her mamma and needs her sleep. But when I took my son out it was back when everything opened at 5 and things were not as crazy as they are now. If I thought that my daughter would do ok I would take her. But we live in a small town and most of the time it everyone is pretty civil. I prefer not to take any kids if I can help it though. I asked my 13 year old boys to go with me and my husband this year and they said they had rather not. So, they stayed with DH parents. My daughter stayed with my parents. Most of the time, my friend and I go and DH babysits her boys and our kids. But friend didn't go this year.. I don't really see anything wrong with taking kids as long as you can keep them safe and warm. I would not stand outside with my younger kids and I would not take them to the video game or movie section at WM..I also definitely wouldn't take them to the towel section either.. I think it just depends on your child and the area you are shopping. There were lots of small kids and babies out at our Walmart. But like I said everyone for the most part is nice.

Congrats to all the winners!! -
I went and got the Kodak camera ($49.00) tonight around 8. I actually got two. I got one for myself and one for the boys. They called and asked their paw paw if they could go ahead and get their 25.00 each to get it with..lol. They have been wanting one a while and I knew that would be a good camera for them to start out with.. There were a few of the bigger TVs tonight. Yesterday afternoon they had around 10. They had a bunch of different toys left too. Several different cameras. They had some of the hardware items. A good many movies.

Shootings, pepper-spray attack mar Wal-Mart Black Friday sales
starbeck96 replied to bigjimslade's topic in 2011
At our store there were tons of kids in line. If I would have gotten a game system, my kids would have been in line for it. I don't have a problem with the kids standing in line. It is probably safer in line for them than it is fighting for games and movies. We also live in a small town and most people are very nice and help each other out. Of course we also have our few idiots. WE did have around 6-8 policeman in the store though. This was actually probably one of the best BFs at Walmart. I still wish they would go back to the 5 am times though. -
BUt the ad was printed before Walmart decided to allow layaway to open BF. Our manager told us that anything that was leftover after 8 AM could be put on layaway but we could not walk around with it in our buggies. BUt when I was checking out I noticed people walking around with the Xbox and PS3. If I would have known that, I would have just went ahead and got in line and got one and then waited around utnil 8 AM. I know that you had to pay for cameras in electronics, though.

Official One-and-Only "What I Got" & "My Black Friday Experience" Thread
starbeck96 replied to Brad's topic in 2011
1st trip to WM: The only thing we really went to walmart for at 10 was the trampoline. I was able to get it. I was also able to get my daughter an operation buzz lightyear and a few disney books. My husband also got the boys a football each. They got those today when we got home. 2nd trip to WM (another town): I got a few DVDs; Marley & Me, Charlie Brown (about blanket), Rocky, and another 1.96 movie (can't remember what it is..lol). I was able to get my daughter some new panties and me some new socks. I am going to dare anyone to steal them..lol. 3rd trip to WM (in yet another town)-went to pricematch: I got my daughter the Kerplunk game. Guitar Center: We put a guitar on layaway for one of the boys. It was regularly prices 499.99. It was on sale for 349.99. It had a surface scratch on it so they gave us another 10% discount off sale price. So final price was 315.99. We got a gig bag for 40.00 and 2 guitar stands for 10.00 (on sale 2/10.00). I got my other son a new Keyboard. It was regular 299. It was on sale for 249.99 and it also had an instant rebate of 50.00. So it ended up being 199.99. The only downside was that the adapter was not included. but for the keyboard it is a great price. They are going to be so surprised because they think they are getting a hunting blind. They had much rather have the guitar and keyboard! It was a good day overall! There were only a few smaller things that I was not able to get. -
I am glad everything went good for you. While I was out last night, I was wondering how you did.

No one was allowed to put anything in their buggy until 10 PM at our store. They were very clear that if they caught anyone doing it, then they would be escorted from the store. I was very very surprised at how well organized things were this year at our WM store. Everything was completely wrapped. It was good. I go my trampoline ticket (didn't have to stand in line), got my daughter the operation buzz light year, and my boys a football each. We were checked out by about 10:15. It would have been earlier but husband's cousin asked hubby if her son could stand with him so he could get a football. So we had to wait on her to pick him up. This is the advantage of living in a small town.

I got my trampoline. I do not know how many they had. This was one of the few "big" items that we didn't have to stand in line for. I went to WM prepared to stay in line but instead they handed us a ticket and told us if we lose it they will not issue us another one, but we were free to walk around. WE could not check out until 10. But we had to drive around back for ours. So, I was able to get my daughter Operation Buzz Lightyear. I think the only reason they allowed us to walk around is because we are such a small store and since we are so small that means fewer employees. I figure they needed all of their employees for the other really big ticket items. I know that they had at least 10 trampolines.

Shootings, pepper-spray attack mar Wal-Mart Black Friday sales
starbeck96 replied to bigjimslade's topic in 2011
This just confirms to me why I always shop at our local Walmart. We live in a small town where we know over half the people in there. Most are civilized, but I heard there was a fight in the towels. We had 6-8 policeman in our Walmart. It is the only major retail store in our town so it was crowded, but not terrible. I would never fight over anything. I go to enjoy the day. I am afraid that there will be a time when BF in stores will be banned and all BF shopping will have to be done online. As much as I enjoy the BF experience that may be for the best. -
You still have to stay in line until 10 but they would not have to pay for it at that time. We decided not to get the Xbox anyway. We are getting the trampoline for my daughter instead and getting a new guitar for my son and a double bass pedal for my other son.
-
I wouldn't want to give them a gift card with that much money either...lol.
-
It is the full kinect with the xbox. The Xbox is the smaller memory. But I think I remember you saying your kids were younger so this shouldn't be a problem. We are getting this as a family gift this year. My boys are 13 and my daughter is 5. We already have the Wii, but I think the Kinect will be easier for my 5 year old to use since you don't have to hold the remote. My daughter does fine with the Wii, but I always worry about her hitting the TV with the remote..

Well this year it will me and DH. This will be his first year!! We aren't really going for much though. I am going to Walmart to get the Xbox, trampoline, and a few small things. Then we are going to Kmart to put a few of the cameras on layaway and some of the SD cards. Then we are heading to Guitar center to get a new guitar for one of my sons and a double bass drum kit for my other son. Then we may go to Gamestop to get a few games. We are going to call this a trial run for him..lol. I am looking forward to spending time with DH though. It has been forever since we have been out alone.
