I always set up electronics prior to giving them to kids. DD9 and DS5 are both getting Fires; they will have books, movies and apps ready to go Christmas morning I'll also give gift cards so they can add to it.

Because Walmart is considered evil to so many people. I've pointed out to several people that they are not the only store opening on Thanksgiving. If you're going to be mad at one be mad at all, IMO.

Yea, everything is location dependent. My Best Buys are always madhouses; there's 3 all within 15 minutes of my house and they will all have long lines; I could be there for several hours for 1 game system. I cannot even count how many Game Stops are within 15 minutes of me. If they are having a decent sale then I will head to one of the ones off the beaten path. Good luck!

My Target did this and I hated it! There were products on the other side as well and you had to walk all the way around to get to them then walk back to the end of the line. I'm in and out of stores on BF but I found it to be a nuisance.

It actually says it must be registered by 11:59PM CST Sunday 11/25/12. If not, it then becomes a normal Walmart gift card.

As shocking as it is to read this I can't say that I'm surprised at Target for finally doing this. I think they really want to force people to choose which store to go to. Their ad is not that exciting so it will be interesting to see how this plays out for them.

It is definitely possible to be checked out within an hour. I always know exactly what I am getting from Walmart; I actually spend more time in the store prior to the sale going live than I do waiting to check out. I don't stop to look and browse; if something is in my path and I'm interested I scoop it up and keep moving. The key is having a plan and sticking to it as much as you can. Good luck!

I am considering the 360 Skylanders bundle at Walmart to replace our 360. We have everything else so the system being 4gb is not a big deal. And DS5 can have the Skylanders game as a bonus. I could use 3 of the $97 tv's for the kid's bedrooms but I don't know if I want to wait in line for that. I may just keep my eyes open throughout the season for a price I'm willing to pay (hopefully under $150). There's a few video games too but so far that's it.

I am deeply sorry for your lost. I lost my stepfather 8 years ago and I always think of him the most during the holidays because he always made sure they were a special time for us. It has gotten easier over the years but I honor his memory by continuing the traditions he started with my siblings and I with my own children. DH lost his father 8 days before Christmas and his mother 15 months later right after Easter so please believe me when I say I sympathize with your position. Just hold on to your memories and try to start a few new ones.

Lol! I got cha no android as an operating system is fine but many lower priced tablets won't run a recent version and they often are not able to be updated. The kindle fire is an actual tablet; it's not just an e-reader. Does he have an iPod touch or a smart phone? I know you say he won't be downloading movies or anything but if this is his first time with something like this then I would guess all bets are off. Is he in high school or college?

There are other options like what ecosystem is used, what app store (s) can be used, are there accessories available for it, is it upgradable, exactly what type of touch screen is it....

Most of the tablets that are priced at $100 are run on android but often not able to be updated. I'm not speaking of a kindle fire but all those other cheap tablets floating around. You need to look at exactly what he wants to use it for, see what other system he primarily uses i.e. windows, iTunes, android, etc. and see what options are out there at a price you're comfortable with. An iPad is not even the most expensive tablet though others will try and tell you it is. Also if he's using it for notes then you're going to need to look at the difft apps for documents as well as a keyboard as he will probably tire of using a touch screen for note taking. Also, has he asked specifically for an iPad? If so, find out why and see what other tablets can replicate that for him and if he is open to another option. It sounds like the nexus 7 or even the Microsoft surface could be options for you depending on exact wants and needs. Good luck on your search!

Thanksgiving morning 2010 I ordered 2 Toshiba laptops from Best Buy. No peoblem with the order and they are still working as good as they did then. They were on sale for $250 but they weren't a doorbuster.

In years past, ON's ad was several pages almost like a little leaflet of sales. I tend to stop in on Thanksgiving but this is underwhelming....I was hoping for $5 pajama pants again.
