wbfgolla
Last year I worked in retail. You can imagine nobody had the day off. But, I scheduled minor foot surgery the day before Thanksgiving so that I'd have a doctor's excuse. I couldn't be on my feet 8 hrs but I could hobble in and out of a store! As it turned out though...there was nothing worthwhile for me to go after last year.
Gporter34
Hopefully I will be off and will be able to go out. It was looking good, but I have to go to the Dr.'s tomorrow and I will know more then. Fingers crossed. kselzer
I have to take vacation time. Luckily my boss thinks I'm crazy for going out and works that day so someone in the dept. is here. But then I don't mind working the week of Christmas and he usually takes that week off.
coley2123
Coworker takes BF each year, so I get up super early, try to hit as many as possible before my early shift.... ususally struggle by the end of the shift.
darianwiccan
It's a paid holiday, but we are a world-wide company, so I will have to fight tooth and nail this year to get BF off. (
biggerbear16
Well my job has a flexible schedule, so as long as I request it off in advance, it will be one of my 2 "weekend" days, so at least i don't have to use vacation time.
mcwalker
The day after Thanksgiving (e.g. BF) used to be a work day at my engineering firm, but most people found a way to take the day off. Some years ago they changed it to an extension of the Thanksgiving holiday. (I didn't shop much on BF until about three years ago, but have never worked the day in 22 years, usually because I was traveling to visit family.) stacyk9
BF is part of our extended holiday. I work for a University and they put on a Thanksgiving lunch for us on Wednesday and they close down after that and we're off until Monday!!
cincygurl
As a teacher, I am off that day. My brother who works for a bank takes a vacation day. He puts his request in on January 1st every year to guarantee that he gets it off.
oneredhonda
Black Friday is normally part of the Thanksgiving holiday for me. BUT every year they change the holiday schedule a little. We used to have Christmas eve off but we do not any more. This year we have Christmas day off and then the day after Christmas because it is a Friday (??). I am glad we have a holiday for BF because my work only allows so many people off at one time. This year I requested Christmas eve thru Jan 2nd off as vacation time in January of 2008 and they have still not decided who can be off and who has to work!! They are doing the same thing for Thanksgiving too, people who requested Monday Tuesday or Wednesday off still do not know if they are going to be allowed to be off. Normally they only let about 2 or 3 (some time as many as 4 off at a time) out of about 50 employees so getting any vacation time approved is VERY FRUSTRATING!! singledad
I work 4 days a week. My work doesn't know what holidays are. Fortuantely I am off on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays through the end of the year, which means BF, Christmas Eve, Christmas, NYE, and New Year's Day are all days off for me. dramaqueen72500
We get T-day and BF off every year.....except this year I have to work for a few hours the Saturday after BF. It stinks having Thursday and Friday off and then having to go in on Saturday! Plus, I always have a shopping hang over on that Saturday so I have no clue how I am going to function! fairyprincess83
I work from home so I get to take off whenever I want, it works out good!
aerosmithgirl
Our company is closed Thanksgiving and the day after. Last year, I took the following Monday as a vacation day and I'm doing that this year as well. It's nice to be home wrapping while the kids were back at school! steph3306
I am a sahm so i'm always off that day but hubby has to take a vacation day to watch the kids. His employer always lets him have it off because he works at the school and there isn't much to be done that day anyways.
rockpzazz
I have to request it off, not considered a vacation day or anything else, but I usually work Thanksgiving, I get time and a half Thanksgiving, and don't usually do much that day, so its a good switch. kellmarr
I am an RN at a hospital and fortunately it is my normal day off this year - but otherwise I would have to take a paid-time off day which is pretty much paid time off I earned and is considered like a planned day off that I "pay myself for". But I wouldnt miss going out for anything and I MORE than save the amount I would make in a day on the deals I get!
jovifan4life
I own a daycare center and we always have off! This year we have the Friday after Christmas and New Year's off. I am open Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve till 2pm.
orangedaisy
I'm a nurse who works 3rd shift. I can request the night before or after off, but it doesn't mean I'm going to get it. I'm new so I'm sure I'll probably get screwed like I did for Halloween and Christmas.
MICKEY3601
We are open for business. I have to request it off every year & normally do not get it off. This year is no exception. I refuse to miss shopping on BF so I will shop the early morning deals & then go to work.
christina19111
I usually go to work directly after Black Friday shopping and hope we get a half day, but by that time I'm pooped and all I want to do when I get home is take a nap. If the deals are good this year, maybe I'll just take off!!!!!
Bursley2010
I'm a teacher, so we always get Friday off-- hard to believe, but BF is actually stress relieving in comparison.
Spotted1
My husband works 4 ten hour days, so he has Fridays off, anyway. I'm self employed, so it's no big deal if I take the morning for myself. :)
CrayZMama80
I wish I'd get the day off totally. Unfortunately I have to work later in the day or I lose my holiday pay.
mysticmage
I take BF as a "personal day." Thanksgiving I get off anyway.
toninjack
I am a sahm, and my husband is the nurse manager, so he gets the day off because it is a paid holiday and he is salary. He hated doing this schedule because he couldn't let everyone have the day off that wanted it.

laffnatu
I get Thanksgiving and BF off. Dh usually asks for BF off. But this year he has a new lazy manager that won't let him have the whole day off. So he'll go in at 3pm on BF.
