How to feed a house full for a long weekend without braking the bank
AndreaInNC replied to bamamomma's topic in 2013
If you have a warehouse club membership, you can get larger sized items for about the same price as the regular size at the grocery store. I know we always hit Sam's Club up for pancake mix and canned veggies for the super low price. -
Anyone know anything about where to buy a drum set?

don't forget to check pawn shops. -
The one thing I hate about Target is how they handle some electronics. They will throw the $99 camera out on the shelf for anyone to grab, but the other electronics will be behind the counter an more than likely there will only be 2 registers. So last year anyone who wanted, the Beats, DS, iPad, iPod .. any type of portable device had to stand in line. I have done that now for 2 years and I swear I am not doing that again this year. They need to be more organized as I have been waiting in line for approximately one hour.

I got Beats last year for DD22 on BF. In the long run, I didn't really save any money as they offered the same price in the weeks up to Christmas. It just depends on what kind you want. Mine wanted the cordless ones, I got them for 25% off on BF. I actually ordered them on Thanksgiving at BB website .. free shipping.

How to help a co-worker with finances this Christmas?
AndreaInNC replied to erose630's topic in 2013
I would have things shipped to her home or have it dropped by her home when you know that no one is there. You can buy gift cards online and have them sent to her home. You don't want to risk a friendship or a work relationship by giving her name to a charity. But that's just my opinion. I've been in that position before and I would also be moritified if my coworkers knew of my personal financal situation. I know she casually mentioned it to you, but she might not have wanted you to repeat that to anyone. -

If I was a guest, I would ask what I could do to help our - or offer to pick up something for you when I get there. I wouldn't expect to have you just feed me for free while I'm there! -
I normally make her favorite things and then freeze them in individual size containers. She takes it out in the morning and heats it up for dinner. Her favorite things are this Greek orzo pasta dish I make & cabbage and sausage soup. I also make sure that she goes back with jars of her favorite spices if she decides to cook so she doesn't have to buy them. I normally buy the big sizes and then put them into smaller jars and she takes them back with her. Her favorite spice by far is Montreal Steak seasoning - she puts it on everything just about! I've also just sent her back with a large tray that she uses to cart everything down to the kitchen with. She just puts everything into the tray (like an extra large roasting pan) that she needs to cook and clean up with and takes it down to the kitchen with her. She fills it back up when she's done. That way she doesn't worry about dropping anything! Also bought her a cutting board and her own knives (small paring knives and a large chef's knife). They do have things for communal use, but she said the knives were cheap and there wasn't a cutting board. I'm thrilled she's taking advantage of the kitchen! She says the younger kids (she's 22) are always asking her what she's making because they smell it when she takes the elevator up to her room!

When DD22 comes home, I always make up her favorites meals to freeze and take back with her. Her dorm has a full size communal kitchen, so she is able to put them in the freezer and heat them up when she misses home. Does he have a small microwave? Grocery store gift cards are good too. Mine is always shopping for food as she gets tired of the cafeteria food. A basket of grooming supplies and laundry supplies are always good too!

Ours does the ticket item as well. So I always go with a buddy. I stand in line while they get what they need, then they come stand in line for me. Our Walmart lets you put things in your buggy but you can't check out until the sale starts. They don't do the unwrapping of the pallets at my SuperWalmart.

Target normally has an e-reader on special. May be another Kindle one this year - I think they did the 3G Kindle 2 years ago (I scored one of those). They normally do the one that is going out of production.

the iPad has no USB ports so you can't hook it up to it. Mine just puts everything on her itunes on her laptop and can then view from her iPad. I love the iPad and Surface commercials .. -
I'm thinking of getting the Spring Galaxy Tab 3. Right now it's $49 with a 2 year contract. Data plans start at just $5 per month with minumum data, but I'd mostly be using my home wifi. I know it's about the same as what I could outright buy the tablet for, so I'm thinking of it as a free layaway - only I get the tablet now.

I shop for DVDs online on Thanksgiving .. most stores offer free shipping, so that's one less thing I have to worry about trying to get. I've never shopped for a "ticketed item" online - but from what others have said in past years, they are normally not available online or if you are able to order it, your order could possibly get cancelled. -

Picked up a Twin XL comforter for 5.98 and some body cover pillows for 2.98 - both 70% off. -
I am rethinking the whole real tree thing this year. DD22 is away at school until 12/13 and DD19 is doing a culinary internship at Disney and won't be home at all. So it's just me this year for the majority of the season. Plus we are headed down to Disney so DD19 isn't alone for Christmas. don't want to leave a real tree unattended for a week. My stepdad has an artificial tree I'm sure he'll let me borrow it. It's just not going to be the same this year

I ordered early too and wasn't charged shipping .. but I know they had an overwhelming response, so I guess the free shipping didn't last long. Mine came last week.

Best place to buy textbooks?
AndreaInNC replied to Stowasser's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
we have been happy with Amazon. They ship for free, and if you rent, include the postage back. If you buy, they pay way better than our college bookstore if you sell it back. And they will tell you when you buy it from them how much they'll give you for it if you sell it back. Plus, they pay in Amazon credit, which makes is easier for the next semester. Less money to come up with. We were extremely lucky this year as DD22s school includes books in their tuition. What a relief! -
mine just came yesterday ..

I've been getting these about once a month .. been getting pillows!

thank you! And free shipping too! I've always wanted to try these.

I got mine from HHGregg .. they had the lowest price on what I needed in a hurry. I checked around, just wanted something inexpensive and simple. I ended up getting a set by Amana for like $600 for both. I did not see anyone else having something that inexpensive. They advertised free delivery and haul off for the old - but the tiny print said free after rebate .. ugh ..
