  1. I will be avoiding fisher price/mattel made toys as much as possible. I could've understood if it were a couple thousand contaminated toys that squeaked by, but millions? 3 phases of recalls? There's enough alternative brands out there.
  2. I hid them in my closet last year. But last month DD3 asked if it was time for presents to come out of the closet yet. So I need a new hiding spot.
  3. Black Friday is also decorating day in my house :)
  4. My oldest DD is only 3.5 (she'll be 4 in January) so she still believes. Last year was when she really *got* Santa. My youngest Dd is oly 4 months old, so she's totally clueless. lol
  5. If Kmart has anything, we go that morning. But thats the end of my Turkey Day shopping. Its more important to be with the family, IMO.
  6. I wouldn't say too much. Maybe... "Not enough", Nobody'd be able to see the ruby, because the snow'd be up to your armpits anyway.
  7. You can get "SLR like" cameras, which have alot of the same capabilities as the higher priced digital SLRs, for the point & shoot price. The Canon Powershot S5 IS has alot of power for a point and shoot, and is half the price ($400-$450 ish) of the Canon Rebels. At the same time, there are extra lenses and flashes that can be purchased to up the quality and power. The S5 is 8mp, 12x optical zoom, with image stabilization and face detection features, as well as in-camera-photo editing options. If you're still deterred by the $450 price tag, look into the Powershot S3 IS. It's a slightly older model, 6mp, 12x optical zoom but still high power and SLR like, with the option for lenses. Megapixel isn't everything, after all. 6mp will print 11"x16" images without a problem. You can order one of these from walmart's website right now for $302.54 with free site-to-store shipping. Flickr has a feature now that allows you to explore photos based on what type of camera took them. I find this is a fantastic way to see both amateur and professional quality photographs that have been taken with the camera I'm curious about.
  8. Last year I spent about $100. Not sure how much I'll spend this year, really just depends on what's to be had.
  9. I'll be shopping in Paintsville, Kentucky. :)
  10. From what I've seen fo Smores, there's no real difference between the two. You can Preorder Smores from Amazon right now for $249.99 with free shipping, which is slightly cheaper than Butterscotch (who is currently $268.88 with free shipping). Smores will be available Sept. 10th :)
  11. Only fisher price/mattel toys have been affected by the lead paint recalls thus far. That still leaves plenty of other toy options out there. Little Tikes, Step 2, Vtech, and Hasbro, for example. Both Vtech and Little Tikes have produced kid-friendly digital cameras this year. The Little Tikes one comes with a decent price tag standard (39.99) so I'm not sure we'll see it as a deal on Black Friday. It's already $20 well below the SRP of it's competitors. However, the Fisher Price Kid Tough Camera or the Vtech camera may be a black friday item, in hopes of competing with the price of the Little Tikes camera. Last year, Walmart had the My Little Pony (Hasbro) Castle on sale and including 3 bonus ponies. Hasbro's recently released the Dancing Pinky Pie as it's "big" my little pony product. So the possibility is there that Sing & Dance Pinky Pie could be have a new price for Black Friday, and/or come with "bonus" pony/ies. I think a discounted Gameboy bundle has pretty much become a requirement for black friday retailers, and that we'll obviously see one of those. I'm not sure, though with the recent $100 price drop of the PS3s if we'll see much more of a drop, even for BF. Fur Real Friends (hasbro) also has the next Butterscotch, this year known as "S'mores", so I expect there'll be a good deal to be had on Butterscotch with hopes that once Butterscotch is sold out, parents will flock to S'mores, despite the high price. That's just my speculation. I've had too much thinking time, lately.
  12. You can take it back to walmart. Even if you don't have a receipt, then you can just provide your driver's license/state ID #. They'll give you a full cash refund for recalled products. I had the fisher price open top swing when it was recalled. It was bought as a baby gift for me from some out of state friends. I walked into walmart with it without a receipt, and they refunded me the full amount for it in cash, no questions asked.
  13. While You Were Sleeping And of course, all the Christmas cartoons.. Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty, Rudolph,
  14. I like to tell people I have a mental list so I sound smart. In reality, I'm so winging it. LOL
  15. I'm forever on the hunt for the gift that will provide the "WOW" factor (You know, when a kid opens a present and their first response is a jaw dropping "WOW!") I'll get something that I think will get that, and then a week or two later I'll see something else that I think will get a bigger 'wow' and buy that, too. Then a couple weeks later, rinse and repeat. LOL
  16. Yes, everybody I know gets a card with my kids' faces plastered on them. Last year, I took a picture of my oldest daughter (only her, cause the youngest one hadn't been born yet lol) pouting in front of the christmas tree and wrote on the cards "Dear Santa, I tried to be good."
  17. I am INSANE about wrapping presents. I have specific paper for "mom and dad" gifts, and specific paper for "Santa" gifts. I use completely different types of tags, ribbons, decorations, and even disguise my hand writing. My Mother in law, on the other hand, just puts stuff under the tree in walmart/kmart/dollar store bags. Although last year I convinced her to give wrapping paper a try, she ended up picking out paper with a bloody Jesus on the Cross. That woman puzzles me.
  18. Walmart. We only have walmart & kmart nearby (and even those are a good 30 minute drive, minimum, away), anything else will have us on the road nearly 2 hours one way.
  19. I voted Kmart, although after thinking on it some more, I'm curious if some big players won't secretly leak their ad early to see customer reactions to them with enough time to tweak the ad before the big day.
  20. This is my 3rd black friday. I didn't get to actually go BF shopping the first year. I had all my plans lined up, and everything, but life got in the way of shopping. Hate when that happens. I did get to go last year, and will get ot this year, though :)
  21. I really hope if walmart attempts the Thanksgiving Day sales again this year that there's something more to get excited about than bathrobes and garth brooks. It was a novel idea, to have all this extra merchandise hidden back for a special sale and all that, but I can't help to wonder if the products selected wasn't just some overstocked merchandise they couldn't ditch. Maybe this year they'll plan in advance for extra-special-secret-sale-products.
  22. Way too many. I get a little, eh ...zealous... when it comes to Santa. I think the last couple of years we got DD everybit of 20-25 presents. This year we have yDD to shop for, too. I'm going to need a bigger living room.
  23. Walmart & Kmart are pretty much our only shopping options here. If, by chance, there's something at both stores that I *must* have, I'll probably hang out at walmart, and send DH to kmart to put whatever I want from there on layway.
  24. Ours didn't have the my little pony castles for $49 .. They had them earlier in the week for $53, but on BF they didn't have any.
  25. They won't do it. Walmart.com has an emachine for $348. At our local walmart it is $398 and they refused to price match .com. We did end up finding another walmart in the area that had it for the $348 price, though.
