  1. I had the first gifts in my closet. I think DD went fishing and peeked, but that's ok. Not too many places to hide gifts at our home and I don't wrap before BF.

    Egg Nog

I like it, but I'm the only one in my house that does.
  3. How do you get non-Amazon content on the Fire?
  4. This is what it actually says: 1GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual formatted capacity may be less. Approximately 13GB available to store content, of which up to 12GB may be reserved for content purchased from the Barnes & Noble NOOK Store. microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards sold separately. microSD and microSDHC are trademarks of SD-3C. I don't have a Nook Color, but the regular Nooks weren't restricted. In any event, you can pop in an SD card.
  5. Like. I think I will start doing this as well. I usually only get restaurant gift cards that take care of much of our dining out the year. May have to apply for a discover card. Definitely need to start paying all bills with cc.
  6. I have a few credit cards, but rarely use them except during the Holidays. I always get a fraud alert. Its a pain, but I am glad the credit card companies are watching out. What I typically do is use another card right then to make the purchase, and call the card company on my way to the next store. CCs are better than cash, in my opinion for such crowded shopping trips. You are protected if you, unfortunately, get pick-pocketed, etc. Plus, the rewards are nice.

    I hate rebates!

I don't particularly like rebates, but if an item is a good deal with the rebate, I'll take it. I've never had a problem getting my rebate. I just hate the long wait.
  8. I have being doing most of my shopping online the past couple years. As my DD usually has a soccer tournament that weekend, I need to be done early. I will visit a few stores, but mostly in store, and won't be buying much anyway. I've done most of my shopping already.
  9. I believe this is false information designed to sway people against the Nook.
  10. Haven't followed up yet as haven't been able to log on to site. Will do so today.
  11. wait. good deals on bf at sporting goods stores. That's how we bought ours a couple years ago for a very good price.
  12. So turns out I am not cutting back after all. My mother is turning 60 so spending more to send her on her dream vacation to London and Paris. Cut back on spending on DD though and won't buy as much for myself as usual.
  13. Thanks. Got a pair for DD. She is going to be so surprised as she believes I'd never get her UGGs because of the price. Not crazy about the price, of course, but she is getting older and harder to buy for and these will not go to waste! :-)
  14. I have no idea. I usually by myself the big items and family buys me smaller things. Not sure this year I want anything big. What I would love is impossible -- more free hours in the day to do the things I love and enjoy the things I already have. lol
  15. DD is rough and has never broken her ipod touch. The key is to always get a hard case, forget all the cutsie rubber cases. The eink tablets however are very fragile, so wouldn't recommend it for a rough kid. DD broke 3 of them!
  16. What if we started our own GD "angel tree"? There are plenty of GD'ers that could use a helping hand this Christmas. It wouldn't be too hard to set up and run. Dunno if Brad would allow, so that might be one glitch.
  17. Because of the music, I'd go with the ipod touch. I just can't see listening to music being convenient on a device as big as the kindle fire.
  18. I haven't given it any thought yet. DD is now in middle school, so this year thats 7 teachers + soccer and swim coaches + piano and violin teachers. I usually give all the same thing. May be BBW except for male coach. Good ideas in this thread.
  19. Ribbons, ribbons, and more ribbons (the wired type). It takes a lot. I go around the tree, though, not vertically. Then we put ornaments on pretty much every branch and towards the center.
  20. The Kindle Fire is not ideal as a portable media player because if you are not connected to wifi, you won't have cloud access and 8GB hard drive space is very limiting.
  21. I agree. I wish this were out a few months ago. I would have gotten DD12 the Fire instead of the Ipad as she only uses it to play games, email, and surf the net.
