sdigman6 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 anyone have any suggestions? I see there are alot of the out there and I am not sure what to grab. I tried the NOW Xmas cd but most of the singers really did nothing for me with the song they sang. Maybe I am picky?
elena_398 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I love that cd from El Divo ( I think thats what their called- Simon Cowell's group). Beautiful cd. I borrow it from my mom. Going to copy it next time I get it
Silverstreak24 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 you gotta check out the Trans siberian orchestra. It's awesome. Their best CD is "Christmas Eve & Other Stories" It is not a boring orchestral CD like it sounds. Check it out! :)
nick_jenni_jocelyn Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 i was wondering the same thing the other night. i like the classic versions of the xmas songs. i hesitate to buy any singers cd sing they tend to put their own spin on the songs. i just want one that sings it the way it should be sung.
Scanner420 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Kenny G is ok, but it puts me to sleep. I like Boyz2Men's Christmas, as well as, the fun stuff that the kids get into.
penor Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Manhiem Steamroller. It's instramental but beautiful!
msdarkness Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Nat King Cole...love his one of my all time favorites but I really only enjoy the classic Christmas songs not to big on the poppy country or r&b remakes
JenT1292 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Mannheim Steamroller or TSO, they are my favorites.
AndreaInNC Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I have all the Amy Grant Christmas CDs, also love John Tesh's Christmas CDs. TSO is awesome as well. But I also love the classics and the Time Life collection is the best for that. I think I have about 50 Christmas CDs ..
AndreaInNC Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I know they are old - but I also love The Carpenter's Christmas CDs too!
littlezar Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I know I have one of the Very Special Christmas cd's (I think the first one...) and Another Rosie Christmas (funny stuff...but not if you're looking for classics) Mostly I just keep the radio tuned to a station that plays nothing but Christmas music from Thanksgiving til Christmas. Big mix of stuff.
sdigman6 Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 I will have to chek some of those out. I went today to get the Kit Movie and found the 80's version of some Xmas songs stuff my kids would like it was 9.99. I played it in the car and it seems pretty good, its the stuff my kids would like so I know that will be a hit for them thanks for those tips next time I am out I will have to see what I can find
miller205 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 :DI love Christmas CD's!! I collect them. Some of the best I have seen are the cheap compilation CD's. There is one called "Santa's Top 10" that Walmart carries at the holidays and it is awesome. Also, for many years the Citgo gas stations had some great ones they put out. MY ALL TIME FAVORITES THOUGH ARE: Alabama - Christmas (this has been my very favorite since I was little) Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas Dr Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the live action movie) The Jewel Christmas album is great too, so is the Destiny's Child, the Muppets w/ John Denver. Kenny G, Michael Bolton, Manheim Steamroller, and Trans Siberian Orchestra. I LOVE THEM ALL!!!!!
flyjar Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Harry Connic Jr. is really good, and the Target collections are usually pretty good as well. The wife and I have been comprising a list of the good Christmas songs and putting them on a CD over the past couple of years.
sunni0913 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Alabama Christmas and Elvis Presley Christmas are my all time favorites. I have been listening to them forever.
gpg Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I do love the christmas classics but I do agree with Trans Siberian Orchestra. They are fantastic. If you ever have the chance to see them live, go see them.
AuntieJul Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I know they've already been said, but the Very Special Christmas album series has a lot of classics and easy to listen to songs while you're wrapping, decorating, or entertaining. For whimsical winter nights at home, there's a Celebrity Christmas CD that I have around here... Maybe it's NBC celebrities and stars? John Lithgow I remember is one of the stars that sing on it.
allshoppedout Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Me and my kids love When my heart finds Christmas CD Harry Connick, Jr.I also enjoy The Carpenters Christmas Portrait the most, then Old Fashion Christmas next.Other than those, I listen to a mix of numerous songs that I compiled from various CD's Amy Grant, Natalie Cole, Vince Gill, Andy Williams, George Strait, Reba McIntyre, and many classics. For some reason, I really love Andy Williams singing Winter Wonderland.
miller205 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 It's so cool to see that so many people love the Alabama Christmas album!! "Thistlehair the Christmas Bear" anyone?
sigrist_2000 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 reba mcentire all the way...alltime best...i just lover her in general....i also have hundreds, literally, of all kinds of genres ofchristmas cds, i like a mix bag of music...lol
sunni0913 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 It's so cool to see that so many people love the Alabama Christmas album!! "Thistlehair the Christmas Bear" anyone? This is my favorite song of all time
flyjar Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Oh yeah, I forgot the most important one:http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41GJ2GVVM8L._SL500_AA240_.jpg
bpr Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Russ Taff's 'A Christmas Song' is one of my favorites. He may not be well known to most, but I think it's a great CD. Here is the Amazon.com link so you can listen to a few to see if you like it. Kind of a blues sound to it. http://www.amazon.com/A-Christmas-Song/dp/B000TDBLTC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1225253834&sr=8-3
allshoppedout Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Where was my head?? I am with flyjar, Vince Guaraldi /Charlie Brown Christmas all the way! I think I play that thing 8 days a week during the Holiday Season.
tbarry1974 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I have sooo many favorites in soooo many genres, some of my favs are... Dean Martin Christmas Celine Dion Billboard Christmas hits 1945-1960 Billboard Chrismtas hits 1960-Present Neil Diamond Christmas I could go on and on:tongue1:
zim05 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I absolutly adore Josh Groban's "Noel" Christmas CD (I think it was the top CD of all last year if I remember right). He is a classically trained singer so it has a old-fashion feel but modern!! I also just picked up Kristin Chenoweth's "A Lovely Way To Spend Christmas" she is one of the stars on the TV show "Pushing Daisies" and is huge in the Broadway community and has an amazing voice. I also can not do a Christmas without Alvin and the Chipmuck's Christmas CD!
Vol Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 A favorite of mine that hasn't been mentioned are the Statler Brothers Christmas albums. They're great!
Ravenseye Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 No Bob Rivers fans yet?!?!? that fella makes the holidays fun! Also...got to get a little Tom Lehrer as well....Basically anything that has been on Dr Demento since he was on the radio, is in my collection. -Mike
rockpzazz Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 I noticed while going through CD's the other day I have over 20 Christmas CD's. Its a wide variety but the ones that get the most play include: Trans-Siberian Orchestra (I must hear it once a week during the season) Jingle All The Way Soundtrack (Its a good variety of classic and Brian Setzer) Dr. Demento's Christmas Album (it has Cheech & Chong, The Makenzie Brothers and the singing dogs among others and Stan Freburg and Weird Al). I also have Amy Grant, Relient K, and Sounds Of the Season cd's. One day I WILL OWN a Bob Rivers CD as well as Da Yoopers.
