Spooot
There is a criminal element around that has way too much time on thier hands or not, I suppose it depends on if one is a criminal or not. So do you have items arriving via UPS or any other delivery service that leaves packages on the doorstep if you aren't home? Well there are folks out there now spending thier days following mostly UPS trucks around, if they leave a package at a door and no one comes out right away to pick it up these thieves are helping themselves. They have been so brazen they are even taking the time to open the boxes to see what is in them and leaving the opened box behind less the item inside of course. This is happening in Oklahoma so if it is happening there it is happening other places too. So if you have items coming check your tracking numbers and know when to expect your packages so someone can be home to accept them.
gottashop2
That's kinda smart for criminals to think to follow the trucks. I hope the cops are figuring this out. Thanks for the warning. I've been pretty lucky (knock on wood) in my little neck of the woods in Indiana.
hpowers
UPS left a package at our door the other night without even ringing the bell. We were home, I thought I heard something but didnt' check right away. When I drug it inside it had a sticker on it for adult signature required. Now why do they put that on there if they don't require it!! Stupid.
Spooot
My daughter lives in Oklahoma, that's how I found out about it. But I know a few years ago while living in East Texas we had the same problem and always around the holidays, of course. I live in a small town in Louisiana, so far *knock on wood* I've been lucky. During the hurricanes down here I had people donating stuff to the evacuees and at some points I was recieving up to 12 boxes a day. They were (all the delivery companies) leaving them sitting on our courtyard for the world to see. But as far as I know nothing was stolen. hope1976
I agree - that's very sad that people don't have anything better to do than to take advantage of someone else Thanks so much for the tip - I never would think of anyone in my town doing that because it's so small, but I guess I should think twice. KBsDarling
i had several packages come while we were away on Tday vacation...I always pay the neighbor kid a little to bring in the mail and just in general check in. I havent ever had it happen but I always worried about it. I just figured it would be kids walking home from school and not something so organized....Once again get to be shocked at lengths/thought people will put into hurting other people

civicracinggirl7
UPS always just drops off here without knocking, or even coming to the door half of the time. FedEx however won't leave anything if no one goes to the door to get it (even though we live in a really small town). I'm almost always here to get the packages though. My bf had two pairs of diesel shoes stolen from his doorstep though after no one was home to collect the package.

TamiL
My husband delivers the mail for USPS. He won't leave a package in a questionable situation. He thinks its better to leave a note to pick up the package at the post office or the customer can ask to have the package brought out the following day............better safe than sorry. Melissa
Our UPS guy just leaves the stuff by the door and usually doesn't even bother knocking. I always track my packages, though, and am always on the lookout for that big brown truck!
Karmarose
My sister had a bunch of packages stolen in Kansas City, MO. I think they were even baby gifts for her new baby. I like to get to know my delivery people. Then I can tell them not to leave packages or whatever. I have problems with apartment complexes signing for your packages and not telling you that you have a package. We lost some holiday cookies our first year away from family. Rebirth
Only Fedex leave the packages. UPS and USPS never does. I have a few packages coming this week, and next week. But they're DVDs, they should fit in the mail slot.
josetann
UPS and Fedex both constantly do the knock and run, i.e. I'll hear a knock, by the time I get to the door they're speeding off. The mailman on the other hand, will often leave the "Sorry we missed you!" notice in my mailbox without even bothering to actually deliver it, sometimes she'll pull up in the driveway and honk the horn for me to come out (I think maybe we have different mailmen, sometimes I've even seen the package in one of our cars or on the porch). I had to report a few missing packages to UPS, the lady basically treated me like it was my fault. She said I'd need to have a police report filled out, they'd send one of their investigator people out, stuff like that. I more or less said it was their responsibility to get it to me, and if they didn't and the package was insured, it was their problem. Fedex, they would leave stuff and when I checked the tracking number it said there was a signature waiver on file (basically saying I signed something saying they could leave packages without signing for them and they wouldn't be liable). Called them up, they checked it out, verified that indeed I did NOT have a waiver on file, and they would take care of it (most likely a lazy driver not wanting to make a second trip). Things were ok for a few months, but now they're starting to leave packages again. Oddly enough it hasn't been a problem, and our old neighbors are gone, coincidence? Anyways...if you're expecting something expensive, make sure you have the tracking number so you can watch it. Also, note that it may get delivered a day early or late (Fedex is often a day early in my area, UPS is often a day late, I'm sure it varies). You might even go so far as to leave a note up saying to not leave packages without a signature if you're not going to be home, or if you have a regular driver let them know of a safe location to leave the package (I'll often take our not often used car out for a spin to find a package in there, at least it was safe and out of the weather). neile457
I received a package on my doorstep yesterday from Target from USPS. I asked my wife if she ordered anything from Target, she said no. I then looked at the name, and did not recognize the name, but also noticed the number on the address was mine, but it was the wrong street (one block away). I brought it over to that address that evening, and they were thankful I brought it over, but it said signature confirmation on the box, and obviously we didn't sign for it. Makes you wonder what happens to your orders if you don't receive them.
ebony0421
Years ago when we lived on Fort Bragg in North Carolina, there were packages coming up missing and it was this time of year. There was a big investagation and come to find out it was a soldier and his wife stealing the packages. Oh and they stole greeting cards. Make sure you know if cards have money or gift cards in them especially if you have a mail box that sits right outside of your door.
grapico
ups and fedex here just drop it off in my garage or door step, usps will come to the door, odd...
kmbrly
I loved the UPS guy I used to have. He delivered enough to my house that he should have had his own key LOL (I got alot of Partylite shipments)... He would take the time to put my boxes out of direct view from the road, then write me a note and leave on my door telling me where my boxes were. Or, if he was going to be in the area, he would just reroute and drop it off to me at work. My UPS guy was the bestest!!!
alimfp
This has been going on for YEARS. Thankfully we are usually home during the day when UPS or Fed Ex go by (DHL never comes by, odd). My USPS guy won't leave items on my doorstep if we don't answer (fine with me!). But I've been thinking about asking UPS anyway to req sig for all packages delivered to our house.. just in case we are not home.
biomajor
FedEx delivered my son's home theater system Tuesday. It was in it's original box with the pretty pictures on the side. I wasn't home and wasn't too happy about it. He came by yesterday with my daughter's camcorder and asked about the speakers to make sure that I got them ok. I guess he's not all bad My UPS guy is better, but his sub isn't. He ran over my trash can lid!!
happyrat
UPS will not leave a package on my doorstep no matter what. The say I live in a "non driver release area" and I have gone up to the district manager to have packages deliver to no availe. I rarely get packages delivered that are expense or anyone would want. I wish they would just live them since he always delivers at 5-6 pm and I'm never home.
angel-too
I would hope this alert is put out to the drivers, to look out for suspicious cars following them.
vlybl10
In our area we have to sign for everything. Really makes me glad after hearing about this. I know that I've signed for the neighbors even though the package said leave at the door if nobody is home. UPS guy said someone had to sign. scrappynik
I used to work for USPS and delivered TONS of packages around the holidays. If they don't require a signature, we were told to leave them at the door, if they could fit inside the mailbox, we could leave them there. WHen leaving them at the door, I always knocked. Thankfully there were never reports of packages missing or taken.
