Official Black Friday DESKTOP COMPUTER Discussion Thread
nirvana4all replied to Brad's topic in 2011
Great thing about desktops is if you want to replace or upgrade a part, it is really easy, and for the same price you get almost double the power/hardware of a similarly priced laptop. All-in-one you loose part of both of those advantages but you do not gain the advantage of mobility that you get with a laptop... -
get your cables from newegg, or even better monoprice.com there is no real difference....oh, yes there is, there is monoprice will get me a 50ft HDMI cable for around the same price bestbuy will charge for a 6ft one.

The "ads" are only on the $79 version one just so everyone is clear, and as stated by freesia, they are only on the bottom during market checking, or as a screensaver. They do not show up during reading, and this is only on the $79 version, not on the more expensive models. -

Yes, blu-ray player also plays DVD-s and CD's as well as burns them. It just wont burn Blu-rays. It is dificult to find a laptop with a blu-ray player in it and a decent processor for under $600. If you can scoop it up, it is a decent deal. Adding office for free as well as an extra year of free warranty makes it that much of a better deal. This has my stamp of approval FWIW. -
I agree that it is mostly a matter of personal preference. I like the voices I can get free for the TomTom, I also seem to find them cheaper for what I am looking for with lifetime maps and traffic....

The e300 processor in the Lenovo is a better processor ( http://www.anandtech.com/show/4660/amd-updates-brazos-with-e450-e300-and-c60-apus ), the lenovo comes with W7HP, I think the the Compaq may come with W7S ...not sure on it though. If you have to get something this basic and cheap, at least get the Lenovo. -
There are a number that have GPS's (Radioshack, etc), if any of them qualify as "deals" is another matter.

You want a i3, i5, Phenom x4, or an A8 processor. the laptop listed above from best buy at $449 is a decent price. After tax, that runs you $480 here in FL. The computere listed here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215209 is just as quick, powerful, and since there is no tax or shipping, it is over $50 less. -
Anyone able to read the info below the $100 GC w/ new smartphone on the last page? I know later we will get better versions, but didn't know if anyone has better eyes. This would be a great way to add another line to ATT since wirefly doesn't carry ATT anymore.

Love my cannon MP620, get your ink from amazon, it is only about $15 for a 12 pack (2 of each color) there versus much much more in store.

What is the CPN# on the back of it? I had one, now cant find it. I only need that # to do an online purchase. Anyone who can PM it to me it would be much appreciated. $10 off $100 is what I need.

IMHO, very little difference you will see between 120 and 240hz. I am holding off on 3D tv until they are glasses-less. Dont worry about smart TV, get all the smart content delivery in you cheaper replaceable components (i.e. blu-ray player)...There will always be something new, and easier to replace $200 Blu-ray (or pass it to the kids) than a $1500 TV when you cant get the newest thing out.

guess it was 30GB: lightly used, but I will not be very kind with it once I get it, so I dont worry. As I said, I want something that I can also hand to my 6 yr old for a few minutes if needed. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000OK0YWK/ref=sr_1_11_olp?s=mp3&ie=UTF8&qid=1320675493&sr=1-11&condition=used

I am finally ready to take my 1300+ songs mobile. I would like a mp3 player that can also run playlists. I have looked at the Zune's and due to price and capabilities, so far they look the best. I like the idea of it playing a movie, but that and apps are not required. I want something I can use, but hand to my 6 year old to listen to for a while and not worry. I cannot feel that comfortable with my cell phone or a $300 aipple pod. Any other options I should really consider. I can get a 32GB Zune for around $70, so that is my range at the moment.

As soon as my plate is cleaned I am headed out. Just have to figure out where to.

Naw, we were camped in front of target last year, had a power strip, 25 ft extension cord, everyone had their laptops, etc out and plugged in.

Hmm. AlarmclockPlus to wake you up, Gasbuddy to get you cheap gas as you drive from store to store, googlemaps if you get lost, fruitslice to waste away the wee morning hours, and shopsavvy barcode to compare prices. I am sure there are more, but I am having too much fun right now to think of them. In the tech section there is an entire thread for all of us rocking android phones and their amazing (normally free) apps.

I have been eyeing the ASUS Transformer as well, it seems to have a great match up of capabilities, price, etc for some of my family. -

We normally have a desktop thread. I have been having good luck with buying new or refurbished HP desktops from buy . com They normally need a nicer video card for gaming, but what non-custom rig doesn't. example: http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-pavilion-p6751c-desktop-amd-phenom-ii-x4-830-2-8ghz-6gb-1tb-dvd-rw/223330800.html
