Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2008

You need to check the compatibility formats on the packages. I have been told they are interchangeable, but someone emailed me saying they were having problems. I think it was an older version of the MixMax, though. So you need to check and see if they are both WMA or other formats. -

I'd definitely check back. They might have salvaged it if they rang up INF. If you find them, though, take them straight to a checkout. Don't go to a manager. You'll get the same price, probably. Just look for the one you think will ask you if you know the price and tell them the $19.98 price. You'll have a better chance. Just an FYI...Most of the time, in my experience, taking an INF to a manager is just asking for trouble. Sometimes you get a GREAT deal, but most of the time they'll look it up and if it went out of the system at 30% or 50% because they couldn't find any to markdown (they were either hidden or someone did a return and it came back after the markdown cycle), then the manager will stick to that price. It won't matter what you say about another store or anything. They don't care. They hear that all the time. And the standard response is that different stores markdown at different times. We all know that is partially true, but we also know that they follow a general schedule most of the time. Anyway, that is just my $.02, but whenever I hear someone say they took an INF item to a manager and they didn't get the price they wanted, I just shake my head. -

Well, I saw it at another of our stores today only 50%. However, I noticed they were also behind at least a few days on their markdowns, so keep checking!!! All but one of our stores salvaged them out at 50% last year too, but not this year. There is still hope! -

I don't think it has been posted yet, but a bunch of the Classic Pooh baby stuff - baby books, brag books, large stuffed Eeyore, and footprint stuff - are 30-50% off. It is selling out fast, so if you are looking, don't wait! -

Generally it is every other week, so probably next week. -

I would lay odds that they'll reduce them tomorrow. I'd be there if I were you. One of our stores went 75% off 3-4 weeks ago. The other closest store is still at 50% like yours. I would be really shocked if they didn't go tomorrow. -

Mickey & Minnie aren't terribly popular these days, so you may have a hard time. I'd check Party City if you have one. Otherwise, ebay may be your only option. I tried Orientaltrading.com, and they only have Mickey. -

were those the ones from Smith & Hawken in the pastel glazed pots? I had been eyeing them! That is at least the 2nd time that one of their products has been mysteriously "recalled" when they were in mid clearance! I tried to buy some stuff last year and that happened. -

Depending on exactly where you are, there is a pretty decent Target in Chino Hills at the Grand Exit off the 60 freeway. Enjoy your visit! -

MixMax doesn't come with anything preloaded that I recall. It is also rechargeable through a USB cable attachment to the computer. They also sell some add-on pieces like a wall charger and such. I think they are roughly the same. -

They had cute little tote bags (4 designs) and some little notepads as well as some coloring books. -

No. It broke a few weeks back, and didn't get fixed. No one has found a real replacement. Some items you can find on target.com and can use their site to find things. -

Have you actually tried it? I ask because I had a register coupon that was for $1 off a cafe purchase, and they could not make it work on the popcorn combo. It was VERY annoying. Despite the sign that says $1, it actually rings up as $.99 which invalidated the coupon. It was really unbelievable. The manager couldn't do it either. I was more than a little annoyed that day. -

Not all Target stores have them. They also have Taco Bell stuff in some stores. Some have both. Some have Starbucks. Some have none of the above. -

If your store has the scanners with the keypad, you can enter it in to see if they have more in the back. You can call your store to see if they have any in stock. You can ask a team member to look in the back if the scanner doesn't have the keypad on it. Used to be there was an online thing that allowed you to more or less check stock at various stores. That's gone, unfortunately. You can go to guest services and ask them to check stock at other stores in the area. -

We have about 10 stores in our general area, and they do not always have the same stuff. Usually the general assortment is the same, but some stores seem to have less than others. They had some cute Littlest Pet Shop stuff the last round, but about 1/2 our stores never got it at all. -

Is that posted? It is not the corporate policy. But they may do this state by state if state law allows it. That is where the "other restrictions may apply" thing comes into play. I would certainly ask someone on the 800 number or by email (better b/c you have something in writing if the store is wrong) about it at your own store. http://www.target.com/b/ref=br_bx_1/602-6147133-4250229?ie=UTF8&node=13685491 -

Most stores salvage them after 75%. Occasionally you will find one for less, but it is rare. -

Wow! That is pretty awful. It is NOT their stated policy. Have you tried the CS line about that? Or the email? That is absurd. If an item is lousy it is lousy. They are supposed to take it back. They make a genera exception for stuff like videos, video games and shoes, but those fall under the whole common sense thing. Most items you should be able to return. -

Yeah, I remember. At the time I thought, wow, I've NEVER seen decent looking girl ones. The boy ones are kinda cute, though. They look like actual boys. I have only boys, but still buy for nieces. Just can't bring myself to buy those girls, though. -

The whole donation thing REALLY varies. Our local Target gives food close to expiration to the LA Food Bank. I see the trucks there regularly. In general, organizations have to approach each individual store for food item donations as the stores need a standard procedure locally so that they KNOW it will be hauled away. Otherwise they have to plan for the disposal. We also know that some local stores donate things like appliances to local women's shelters, because managers have told us. Health & Beauty aids, I think, they are required to destroy because of the whole Tylenol tampering thing in the '80s. I think most states have laws about that now. Other items are up in the air. But if it is no longer sold at the store, they have already salvaged it, they may not have a way to handle it in terms of accounting, so they simply take it as a loss. The accounting systems are complicated, and it is probably simply easier to destroy an item than get it back into inventory and then make a donation of a single item. I know how little common sense is behind it, but on a corporate level, I can understand why they might do it. -

I was doing a recall project last year, and working in the back of a Walmart store I witnessed them doing it, so I would not find it shocking at all. Usually it is stuff you wouldn't want resold, but they do do it. -

In general, Target marks things on a bi-weekly schedule and on the same day of the week. So, if they marked them 2 weeks ago, they should have marked them again this week. However, the markdown team sometimes gets behind schedule (and they have had a lot in departments like Hardware lately) and they do it on an off day. Sometimes, though, corporate will think an item has a better chance staying at the smaller discount and they'll leave it at that longer. That is especially true in Electronics and other high ticket items. Once in awhile they'll skip the intermediate markdown entirely and go 30% for 4 weeks and then drop all the way to 75%. That isn't the norm, and it drives us all bonkers, but it happens sometimes. Basically, you have to get to know your stores and it helps to be friendly with the markdown team if you are shopping when they are on the floor. They all know me and they'll sometimes tell you what they think is going on with an item if you ask. Once in awhile they are surprised that an item doesn't drop in price, too. It can be frustrating. That's what leads to hiding stuff like was discussed at the end of last month.
