  1. If it isn't already marked, it won't be. I've never seen it marked down. Unless they are changing the design or they stop carrying it for a period at a particular store, unlikely to go on clearance since it is a standard item.
  2. Didn't check yesterday, didn't go today. Will see if they are there tomorrow.
  3. What is the Jungle Junction thing? And DPCI? Not much marked here. A bit more of the 30% to 50%, but that's it. Regarding the disappointing part, it will continue to get more disappointing as they work out the kinks in their Just in Time system. Eventually, it should be mostly just junk no one wanted, and the few real misses that they order. Bummer for us, but best for the store's bottom line. We would all like to think we contribute a lot to their sales, but the reality is apparently otherwise.
  4. No movement at my Wed store for toys. Will check tomorrow. Like I said before, I expect some of the earliest markdowns to go tomorrow (maybe the nerf guns and other stuff on that aisle), but the rest next week. No summer left here. Booo!!!
  5. Not every item is clearanced at every store. Smaller format stores will often clearance items that are lower margin or don't sell as well there, particularly before the holiday re-set. They do it to make space for higher margin, better selling holiday items. Sometimes an item simply doesn't sell well at a particular store and if it is being clearanced at several of the others, it may go at one and not another.
  6. Going by years past, it should be the 26th. Kind of hopeful for this week for some items, but they JUST marked most of the Legos last week, so I kind doubt it will be the whole shebang.
  7. We got this a year or two ago under different branding, but same items. We love it. Just right for my kids 9 & 11. Works better than most we've tried over the years.
  8. I've had a bit more at some stores. I always argue, though, unless I am in a big hurry. Generally they honor it. 70% in Duarte, CA
  9. We didn't have any gazebos this year. I wanted to get a couple of club chairs, but there are nicer ones at OSH that I think I am meant to buy, so just as well. My husband says we don't "NEED" them so there is no reason to settle for less than you really want.
  10. Next time you remove one of the tags from something you buy, see how the red gets little white lines from it. Then if something like that happens at the store look at the tag carefully. If it doesn't have the telltale while lines, you can simply say, "no, if it is on the wrong item, it is because you guys made the mistake. Now you need to honor it." They normally do without too much trouble. Most managers know that they have to and that they make mistakes. There will always be the employees who act like you are stealing. They tend to be the same ones who get upset over heavy coupon use. You'd think it came out of their pocket.
  11. So long as the tag is not obviously tampered with (which is why they use those with the red, it is really obvious when they are tampered with because it discolors white), they are legally obligated to honor the tagged price on one piece of an item in most states/counties. It is the same law that requires the scanners to ring up right, etc. It is just like when they mis-stock merchandise with the wrong price. Always ask for a manager and if the manager gives you trouble, ask for their boss. If you still don't get satisfaction, contact your county weights and measures office. If they are like ours, they will easily find some other violation if that one is fixed, and the store gets fined. That gets the manager in trouble for the violation. I always make a point of telling them I will be calling so they know why it happened.
  12. More new toy markdowns today. Some stuff went 50%. So, it looks like 2 more weeks. Doesn't tha sound like ground hog day?
  13. Still full price here, but buy one get one 30% off. Odd deal.
  14. They don't always purge them to 1 aisle. Especially when the total quantity is smaller. They usually start doing it when the new merchandise for the reset starts arriving and they need the space to do the new setup. Only one of our stores has an aisle set up already. And they just have a lot of stuff and not enough space to pull it from the backroom. The other stores have the end caps packed and I'm sure they'll start to move it once the reset merchandise arrives. That, as much as anything else, might be what could drag this out an extra week or so. For the first year in several, there is really nothing I care about, so even it it happens next week when I am out of town, I don't much care. Kinda sad...
  15. Yes! It is part of the just in time thing that has also led to the decrease in clearance. I don't think it works that great because in addition to leaving them with less to clearance, it leaves them with more out of stock items more often. I get way more frustrated by that than I ever used to. Walmart has this problem too. Fortunately, I don't shop there as often, and I have a second Target I can easily check for items I really need, but it is really aggravating. I can pretty well assure you there is nothing that they are making a profit on at 75% off. I've worked in purchasing for retail stores, and the wholesale price of items is much higher than most people realize. I do agree that the internet has had a huge impact on people finding the deals that ARE out there and made it more difficult for the old timers (like me!) who used to get a lot more to ourselves. But that is a fact we can't change. As for people who resell, we've had that discussion here many times. Lots of people get upset about them, and some of them are particularly nasty, but they've got families to feed as well. None of them are likely getting rich on their clearance purchases. And many were probably laid off minimum wage jobs. In this economy, a lot of folks need to earn money one way or another, and it does work. I've certainly sold more than one deal I've gotten at Target. No shame in it at all.
  16. They certainly weren't making any profit on the items that they were selling 75% off. Once it drops to 30% off, they are, at most, breaking even. After that, they are just trying recoup as much as they can from the loss. I do think they were making more on full price items from those of us who simply spend more time in the store each week/month, but, while I like to believe we are important and influence these things, I suspect that realistically we are a blip. As for their over all earnings, they are pretty consistently going up. The trend over the last 3 years is that they increased earnings per share on a quarter over quarter basis (q1 from 1 year compared to q1 of the next year, etc.). Here is a link to the data: http://data.cnbc.com/quotes/TGT/tab/5 I know WE don't like the changes they have made, but I think from a business standpoint, it makes sense. And their prices, overall, are quite often cheaper than Walmart, at least on things I buy. You can certainly buy clothing cheaper at Walmart, but the quality is not comparable in many cases. I've compared various items that I buy regularly, and they are almost always comparably priced, and it sure is a whole lot nice to shop at Target. :-)
  17. We all always speculate, but it is so hard to know. In years past, they start the Legos first and draw that out through the whole thing. They didn't do that this year. They seemed to mark stuff to 50% immediately only if there is a TON of it (here anyway), and, I suspect, like the Zhu Zhu stuff last year, they'll drag it out a bit at that price to try to reduce the inventory for a better price. They obviously don't think they'll sell through it at 30%, so they are hoping to push through it at half off. That said, I also feel like they started a week earlier than usual this year, which would put it more along the lines of the 12th or 19th than the 26th. I think we just have to see what they do these next two weeks. If they add a lot more at 30%, then I think it will go a bit later, if they don't, then maybe not.
  18. I expect the toy clearance to be kinda lousy this year. There will be fewer overall SKUS and a lot of each of those only. That is my prediction. They will almost certainly add more tomorrow and next week, but as with the rest of the store, they simply do not have as much clearance as they used to. You'll probably start seeing them bring pallets of what they do have out. One of my stores has the end caps filled only, but the other one has endcaps and has already start to consolidate and dedicated an aisle to what is available. There are hundreds of those Little People super heroes, dozens of those TRIO super hero sets, dozens of those Dart Tag guns with the bigger ball like projectiles, Paper Jamz and a ton of Bakugan. There will almost certainly be more, but it won't be great.
