My 12 yr old is still trying to believe, the 15 yr old I'm afraid has lost the love although he plays along with me as it is important to me...

I don't think it's kooky. I've always wanted a bassoon. I played in high school and never could afford one, had to use a school instrument. One day I'm going to get one, even though I'll probably have to relearn it (it's been a long long time...).

If you have a DH/DW/SO, what are you getting them this year?

He has a movie list so I'm sure I will get him something off that, he needs new wireless headphones for the tv, the ones from 3 or 4 years ago are falling apart. After that??? -
Okay, since some people are deviating from desserts, I will post one of my husband's best recipes, one that he can not go to either THanksgiving or Christmas without (because they won't let him in the door....) PAPA’S BOURBON CRANBERRY SAUCE (Thanksgiving)***** 4 c cranberries ¼ tblsp ground cinnamon 2 c sugar ¼ c Jack Daniel’s Preheat to 350. Mix all together EXCEPT Jack Daniel’s, in a 9x13x2 inch, baking dish. Cover with foil and bake about 1 hour, stirring once. Remove from oven and stir in Jack Daniel’s. Refrigerate. Can be prepared 1 week in advance.

This is my great-grandmothers cake recipe, we make it for all occasions, my dh decided that I didn't bake it enough for his sweet tooth so he learned to make it.... PAPA’S (ok… Maridele’s) SOUR CREAM CAKE ***** 6 eggs - separated 1/4 tsp baking soda 2 sticks butter - softened 1/4 tsp salt 3 cups sugar 8 oz sour cream 3 cups flour Cream butter, egg yolks, and sugar together. Add Flour, salt and soda to sugar mixture. Add sour cream and mix. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into cake. Place into a cold oven and bake at 300 degrees for an hour and a half.

I took my baby bf shopping, 15 years ago. Don't know that I would do it now. The pyschology is too different. Then, people helped me and offered to hold stuff since I couldn't push the stroller and a cart. Now, we would be run over. (I wasn't going after anything big at the store so I used the stroller to help hold the little stuff).

I've purchased 2 refurbed netbooks and 2 refurbed laptops and all have worked great out of the box. I also have one laptop from them that was purchased new and it was user error (my dh) not a system issue. But all of mine have been vista or xp, not the ubuntu? or linux... All of mine also had a return policy and warranty to cover any issues.

Get a mask from the doctor's office next time you are there and wear it as a precaution....I ended up with a few extras when I was visiting my brother (double pneumonia and swine flu-spent 2 weeks in hospital with a week and a half in ccu). I figure that if it gets worse I might use them when I do the shopping. Although I was probably exposed as I took food to bro and my mom (who also ended up with pneumonia and regular flu) for several days before he was hospitalized....

I did BF even when I worked retail, I went to Kmart on the way to the mall to work in 1984 for the b1g1 wrapping paper and candy. I managed a small store and we would take turns going out to get bargains even then...The little stores wouldn't get heavy traffic until after 10am as everyone was in May Cohens (now Belk) or Iveys (now Dillards), Sears or JC Penneys.

Does anyone wait for Black Friday to buy stuff they NEED, not just want?
mgmckny replied to ediesbeads's topic in 2009
A lot of the clothes I buy don't make it to Christmas. I have 2 boys 12 and almost 16 and they are growing like weeds. Stuff I bought in August for school is too short or too big (The older one is probably over 6 ft tall now and the jeans that were tight in August are falling off him and not dragging the ground....). Fortunately they could wear shorts for a little longer since we're in NE Florida but I need to spend money on jeans and shirts again... I'll possibly even risk the mall this year. -
I have a charm bracelet from childhood (silver) that my Dad added to for special occasions birthdays and christmas mostly. I have ballet slippers on it from when I started ballet, charms from cities that we had visited each year, a piano for all the piano lessons, etc. I wanted to start a new one for my adult charms but they are still in a box somewhere... I loved getting a little box each holiday and wondering what it was (especially if we had not gone somewhere...).

The Pink Snuggie is kind of on my list too, and for those that are laughing, we have a blue one and it is lighter weight and less confining than a bathrobe worn backwards, the sleeves are a little long but I rolled them up and it does fit larger people (unfortunately I am one of those...). My 12 yr old is currently wearing it watching cartoons and listening to his ipod at the same time (I don't know why). I don't need much and mostly I want to keep my job (which is in health insurance and in jeapardy depending on what the nimrods in Congress do). I also wouldn't mind an itunes card or a gift card to Starbucks, etc....

Um, I didn't know you were supposed to take the tree down. So that's why everyone stares at me when they come in the house. .... Ok, I did take it down in June one year but just had to turn around and put it back up on Nov. 1. Seems like a lot of work.

Do you do Twitter? I get the outlet codes on Twitter by following them... You don't have to twitter from your phone, I tend to only have a few people that I see tweets on my phone from and the rest I read when i get up in the am or at night after work....That's how I ordered the boys refurbs for Christmas this year.... Here is the url to the latest sale on the outlet--http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/daylight_savings_sale?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&dgc=SM&cid=22576&lid=1285556 the codes are on that page right now, I would copy the code then go through gottadeal so Brad gets credit and then use the code....

I still want them, just haven't gotten it done.... The money keeps going for issues at home, been an interesting couple of months.

Someone on here hid their items in the canoe hanging in the garage. Keep meaning to get a canoe...

I know we ask almost every year but with new people adding in, it's nice to get to know likes and dislikes. I love snowglobes, probably because my dad always loved them, doesn't have to be fancy or elaborate... I also collect snowmen, santas and pink flamingo ornaments.... Yes, pink flamingos...Growing up here in Florida most people probably hate them but I threaten regularly to stake a few hundred in the front lawn (my HOA hates me and the feeling is mutual...). While we don't do a lot of outdoor decorating, my ultimate goal is to have all the indoors done. Hasn't happened yet but I'm working on it...

I think that would be great. Especially as often couples get so wrapped up in the bills, etc, a gift card to either a favorite restaurant or one you know they would like but wouldn't spend the money on due to budget restrictions. My bil used to give us a card to Outback or the like (we weren't supposed to be doing gifts among the adults) and it was a treat for dh and I as we had the little kids (his son is 11 yrs older than my oldest) and he knew that we loved the food but couldn't afford to go. Mine are teens now and I told bil that if he insisted on doing something for dh and I, walmart would be great as we're being eaten out of house and home...LOL
