  1. Decided to get DD11 a nook for Christmas. May get myself one too.
  2. DD hasn't made a list in years. Lists made it so much easier, even when it was a hard to find item. I have a much harder time trying to figure out what she will like. She has too much stuff as it is and not enough free time to play with them all.
  3. Black Friday. We always go out Wednesday or Thursday to shop, also buy any needed decorations, go to DD's soccer tourney, and in the evening, crank up the Christmas music and put the decorations up.
  4. I'm thinking about getting a desktop (haven't had in about 10+ years...have strictly been a laptop person). It will depend on the price as I also need a new laptop. Planning on camping out for both if the price is right.

    Angel Tree

We picked 2 little girls last year (ages 9 and 11) (around DD's age) and it cost me about $250 per child to fulfill their requests, and that was doing most of the shopping on BF, but 1 wanted a dollhouse and the other wanted an Ipod (got her a refurbished Zune). I guess it could be done slightly cheaper if they want less expensive items, but my firm does something similar to the Angel tree and it always costs our employees about the same to fulfill each child's list.
  6. They had it in early October. They may have it again in a week or 2, but from what I remember, its never close to BF. Not getting any video games this year, so haven't been paying great attention but have in previous years and that is how I remember it.
  7. I have never taken my DD out, but may this year, if she wants to go for the adventure of it. She is now 11 and may enjoy it. BF, regardless of where we lived, has never been pleasant weather-wise, so I have always left her with family or friends. Also, there is too much shoving, so I would never take her. I don't think material things are worth the risk that some people take to shop on BF by taking their small children. There are great sales year round and much shopping can be done online. Just my opinion.
  8. I want a dirt cheap laptop that will last me 3-4 years (or even more). My 2006 doorbuster Best Buy laptop was great. Unfortunately, the power button no longer works and I have to boot it from the quick play buttons, so I figure, before it completely dies, I should replace it with something similar. $279 was a great deal for that HP! I got my money's worth. Something comparable will be good enough for what I use computers at home for.
  9. DD wanted real glasses one year with barbie on them (and she has perfect vision). I had to search high and low for fake glasses with barbie...couldn't find one, but did find clear Dora glasses. That was her favorite present that year despite all the expensive items I had bought her. kids! lol
  10. LEGOs are NOT just for young kids. Some of them, the more expensive kinds, are actually for teens and adults. Get him a cool new one. DD11 loves the older kids legos and will get getting one of the nice sets for Christmas.
  11. I have the same problem and am going to try to cut back a lot this year. DD is an only child so I love shopping for her. And then family gets her tons of stuff too. We have so much unused items in her playroom from last Christmas and her birthday. So, I am not putting a number on how many gifts to get her, but will only spend X and not a penny more and buy things that she will actually use (although I guess incorrectly a lot on that front).
  12. drat, my 2006 BF Best Buy doorbuster laptop is on its last leg...need a new one, so looks like I'll be braving Best Buy. (hoping for good weather)
  13. Things have changed. Most of my daughter's friends (ages 10-12) have flat screen TVs in their rooms. DD doesn't because I don't think kids should have their own TV. Most people disagree with me on that one, I've found out. For 2 hours of TV per week (which is all DD is allowed, and only between Friday night and Sunday afternoon), I don't see why she needs her own. But to each their own. *shrugs*
  14. When I camp out at BB, I take my mom and give her one of my credit cards to charge the duplicate item on.
  15. Got mine in the mail yesterday. Good bargain. I just wish I had bought the bigger size for DD as she is growing a lot and I don't think she will get much wear out of them given how they currently fit.
  16. No camping out this year. Didn't camp out last year either. We just don't need anything worth camping out for. I miss the thrill of the experience though.
  17. Good deal. My DD loves these to wear to swim meets and practice. Thanks!
  18. I will be spending much less. I spent significantly more than I wanted to last year and paid for it. But the good thing is we don't really need anything...lots of still unused stuff from last year and lots of great stuff that has already been used... got almost everything the family could possibly want. So, we will be cutting spending by about 1/3, maybe more, but I know me...I love a bargain! So 1/3 or thereabouts will be realistic.
  19. I don't believe that was a "real" discount. That was the regular price as I bought one for DD months before Black Friday and got it for that price.
  20. The touch is really nice. My DD has had 2 (the first was stolen). I would recommend it over the other Apple MP3 players.
