jonboy_nellie Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I was looking at the Staples ad on there website and my local stores have the tom-tom in the laptops place in the ad. I was able to find 1 store within driving distance that will be carrying it. This is SE Wisconsin. Just when I thought I had a solid BF game plan I need that laptop for my MIL!
blackfridayali Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 i got the same problem here they replaced the laptop with a tom tom thats crazy
blackfridayali Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 beware double check staples.com for your local door buster ads. Most stores don't offer the laptop for example in LA and Parts of NY!
heatherkw Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 It replaces mine at home with the tomtom but where I am going to be for BF out of town to has the laptop. I don't want the laptop so no problem for me. I want the GPS!
SuggaD Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I went online and when I typed in my zip code, all of the stores showed as not having any specials for BF. Is this possible????

Is this possible????The page that says no specials has a tabbed area and you need to click on "sneak peek" and you will see the BF ad.
Paradux Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Just called a local store in VT, and according to the store manager, they will be handing out tickets before the store opens. With a ticket you can then pick up the item any time before 8 AM.
SuggaD Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 The page that says no specials has a tabbed area and you need to click on "sneak peek" and you will see the BF ad.Thanks. Well, looks like all of North Texas is not getting the laptop. :-(
blackfridayali Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 this sucks how come staples only has a small portion of us which sells the compaq laptop for $350:mad:
MDWKurt70 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Wow!!! Looks like the Ankeny and Altoona locations have the laptop pictured, but showing it and having it in stock are two different things!!! Would sell mine in a heartbeat if i could get my hands on that!!! AWESOME DEAL FOR A DUAL-CORE!!!!
Shann Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 oh man! there is no staples out here.. doofis me didn't realize this til just now as I drooled over the laptop deal It looks like they'll be available in Cedar Rapids, IA... I wonder how much my mom loves me?
headlinenews Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Last year I was the first in line outside Staples in Iowa City, IA. But turns out the staff bought all the notebooks before the store opens.
miller205 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Oh nooooo...... I was so wanting this for my D17. What do you think the odds are of online availability or in store special?
bigdogofftheporch Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I wonder how many they will have at each store ? i tryed to call the local store to see how many i just got the run around p.s is'nt ilegal not to have them when they open up and you are one of the first in line ?:confused:
miller205 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 OMG I am so depressed. This has ruined my BF!!! I did find out that these will be available about an hour and a half from me but since I am unfamiliar with that city it will put a damper on the rest of my holiday shopping for sure. What to do what to do...

cmro87 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Last year I was the first in line outside Staples in Iowa City, IA. But turns out the staff bought all the notebooks before the store opens. That happened to a co-worker last year in Carlisle, PA. He was around #5 in line and there were no laptops left.
Guest ZeroGravity107 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I went in to Staples the other day (the day the employees got to see the ad) and asked some questions. I told her I really wanted the laptop and she asked "What, the Compaq?" she said "Yeah, last year we only had 10 of the laptops, so you should get here early." and now I just went to Staples.com and lo and behold there is no laptop for my zip. Hmm....
Guest ZeroGravity107 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I just called. They will NOT have the laptop. Thanks for screwing up my BF plans Staples!
krstee Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Well, this is slightly off topic - but I too was looking at the ad here, and saw the 42" LCD tv, and was determined that I would be getting one come BF. Turns out they are only going to have the 32" TVs at my Staples, and I checked about 10 of the others in neighboring zipcodes. Nadda. Now I have to rethink my strategy as well.... ETA - I just checked, and my area ad doesn't have the laptop either. ...
DesiDoLL88 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 That happened to a co-worker last year in Carlisle, PA. He was around #5 in line and there were no laptops left. That sucks, but I could see it happening as there is no minimum printed by the ads. A couple of my friends worked there and told me that they could pretty much set aside whatever they wanted from the BF sale, including the doorbusters. At least at BB and CC the minimum is printed, so although the employees can still get in on the deals, people in line will have an idea whether they will be able to get their item or not. It's not like it matters for me, given that my Staples doesn't even have the laptop in their ad. This was the only thing I actually needed to shop for on BF, but would have picked up other stuff there. Now I'm not sure if it's even worth the trip.
miller205 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I think we should all write letters of complaint to Staples. I also would have picked up lots of other stuff along w/ my laptop such as a cordless mouse, blank DVDs, and probably a laptop bag. They need to realize how much they are losing. FYI, I called my local Staples and complained as well. Not that they are part of the process but hopefully it will be relayed above.

I already do a lot of shopping at Staples as it is (it's <5 min away) but I guess I'll only go there only for FAR stuff and such.

I work at one of the lucky stores that do have them, but have talked to several stores about it and they arent happy. There are two different ads depending on zip code. I would recommend that everyone call staples coporate or send in a complaint through the website. because there are many stores that have 30 or more. If they would have just spread it out to even 10-15 a store or so.
miller205 Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Yeah Indy here is what I don't get...I am in Upstate NY and Rome and New Hartford stores have the GPS but Watertown has the laptop. I don't get it.
pjcioffi Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 According to our ad here in Yuma, AZ we have both the laptop AND the Tomtom. We also have 2 Staples to visit.
Indy2424 Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 For some reason the smaller markets for the most part anyway are the ones that have the laptop. At least around here most of the stores that have them are the ones with the least amount of competitors around here
Tivo_Al Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I got a nice surprise. I was third in line at my Staples and just before they opened they announced that they had 1 Acer 17" widescreen laptop for $549. I got it!!!
PunkRocker101 Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 My staples didnt have the laptop so we, my family drove an hour away and got there at 11:00pm cuz we thought it was gonna be crowded but it wasnt and there was no one there so we were first in line and got three laptops....everyone was nice and it was really fun...we stayed in the car till 3:30 when people started getting out cuz everyone was waiting in the car..lol but yea this was my first black friday cuz I really wanted the laptop and it was really fun cant wait till next year! LOL :):yup:
bigdogofftheporch Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 i got the laptop but was told that it was not upgradeable is this true ? also there was 2 employees there to get there laptop but when the g.m. saw them he said go to another store because they could'nt buy at the store they work at:);)
