candlesbytammy1 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I live in Iowa and in the past everything was closed on Thanksgiving Day? I noticed over the past several years, more and more places are open on Thanksgiving Day with sale ads. Usually I am too busy that day, but if there is something on sale I have stopped and surprising the places have been busy. I was wondering if you shop on Turkey Day?

I am camping at BB on that day. My dad does shop at Jack in the Box for tacos for us.
shopping mom Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I have noticed the same trend, but that is a definite family day for us. I enjoy shopping of BF but have never ventured out the day before. I might be tempted if I saw a great deal on an item I knew my kids wanted but they probably would not let me out the door!
Gumball Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I've done Big Lots, Kmart and Meijer on Thanksgiving before. This year we have a new Super Walmart so I can shop there on Thanksgiving as well as BF.
santaclaus Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I have shopped on Thanksgiving before. I don't have to cook Thanksgiving dinner, we go to my aunts house. I have plenty of time to shop on that day because of that.
Christy Garner Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Not shopping for me on Thanksgiving Day here. I am too busy getting my ads together and my game plan.
sigrist_2000 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 sometimes the sales are better on thanksgiving then they are on BF...sometimes...especially Meijer...maybe its just me...lol yes i do go shopping thanksgiving day...actually im in the stores almost everyday that week...lol...i cant keep myself out there that week....lol (even took a week vacation solely for that and mainly to secure my BF day off...lol)
ms_mckenna Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 If Kmart has anything good I will go. I know one year they had a really good deal on board games. I went for myself and my best friend and left my buggy at the end of the isle. Stupid mistake I got back and got to balance the board games to the cash register.
Novac Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Yes, KMart is the only T-day ad I pay close attention to. I'll only stop quickly between my house and my Thanksgiving Day destination. I'm certainly not going to spend hours shopping on T-day and wear myself out a day early!
nedsw33 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 hmmm... i'll have to keep on the lookout for actual Tgiving Day sales. Maybe hit one up before heading into the lines...
berry1014 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 My best friend, sil and I go to Kmart on thanksgiving morning. It has become a ritual. A couple of years ago we didn't go and the rest of the day just didn't feel right. We are there early in the morning and make it back in time for the Thanksgiving day parade.
penor Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Depending on what kmart has. Mom and I generally go first thiing Thanksgiving morning. I ususally just go along for the ride and the deals on Pepsi.(lol) I only have so much money for BF and I'm not going to blow some of my budget on Thanksgiving. We are home in about and hour. Not a long day.
beavermom Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 if there is anything good i will stop at kmart when it opens and before the families up. We go to parents for dinner and supper so i don't have to prepare any meals.
ICF Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 We go to parents for dinner and supper so i don't have to prepare any meals.aren't dinner & supper the same meal?!?!
shopping mom Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 aren't dinner & supper the same meal?!?! Dinner can mean lunch in certain parts of the country. I call lunch dinner most of the time but some people will ask me dinner-lunch or dinner-supper. :)
christib327 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I usually hit K-mart and if I happen to be near a Meijer I like to go in there too.
elena_398 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Im usually at Kmart, but last year it wasn't worth going out. Not much. Hopefully they'll change that this year
mystikal1 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Impossible to shop on T-Day because the lines start earlier every year for the real day (BF). We were in line @ BB early T-Day.
samisma Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I think this depends on where you live too. Up until recently I lived on the east coast in a very busy area and worked management at one of the malls. We were open EVERY day of the year except for Christmas day. We just had shortened hours on the actual holiday. For example, Thanksgiving day the mall was only open from 10-6. However once BF hit we were open from 8am-10 and progressing to hours like 4am until 1am. Now I live in AZ. It is the first time in my working life where I didn't have to work TD, Easter, etc etc. Which is AWESOME for me, but... at the same time, now that I have those days off -- I wanna shop too.
Rebirth Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Dinner can mean lunch in certain parts of the country. I call lunch dinner most of the time but some people will ask me dinner-lunch or dinner-supper.Then what's lunch?
Spotted1 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 If Kmart has anything, we go that morning. But thats the end of my Turkey Day shopping. Its more important to be with the family, IMO.
Gurnee Al Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I'll usually stop at K-Mart or Hollywood Video. Last year, Hollywood Video had 99 cent previewed DVDs for sale. I got several since they end up being much cheaper than rentals.

vonnyb Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 The year before last I got some good deals at Big Lots and KMART on turkey day. Last year there was not much that I wanted to so I did not go out. Can't wait to get those ads!!
aerosmithgirl Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I usually go to KMart for the CD's and Big Lots is close, so if I see anything there, I drop by there as well.
Kandy Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I've done K-mart on T-day, but we dont have a local K-mart so its an hour drive to go out two days in a row...... : (
StefyAndIansMom Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Not shopping for me on Thanksgiving Day here. I am too busy getting my ads together and my game plan. That sounds like me, I like to get me a plan and a map of road or Store, lol. So I can get my Bargain Shopping on! I've been tempted to go on Thanksgiving or before (kmart), but nothing I really need.
shop2006 Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I've done Big Lots, Kmart and Meijer on Thanksgiving before. This year we have a new Super Walmart so I can shop there on Thanksgiving as well as BF.I didn't realize Big Lots is open on Thanksgiving?! I'll be looking for that one this year. I usually check out KMart but haven't been too impressed.
peekaboo Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I go to Kmart if they have anything good. Last year was a good K-mart year on Thanksgiving for me. I got several things that morning. Hopefully the same this year.
