vkozlowski0419 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) It's almost November! What is everyone having on their thanksgiving menu? Do you eat early, so you can get out and shop early? Edited October 27, 2016 by vkozlowski0419
vkozlowski0419 Posted October 27, 2016 Author Posted October 27, 2016 We are having turkey, stuffing, loaded mashed potatoes, canned cranberries (best kind!!), rolls, bakers square pies. We will probably add more as it gets closer . Depending on the ads, I will probably plan for dinner to be earlier so I can get out and shop. But I'm hoping to get most of the big items online and shop later on. We shall see!
Mimito1 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 We will celebrate TG on the weekend. Due to planning around so many schedules we have always done it on the weekend. Besides everyone in our family knows we plan/shop for all the presents on TG and BF so nobody really minds.
speeddiva Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 We do turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, a vegetable, Hawaiian rolls, pumpkin pie and a cheesecake.

gina01 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Turkey, mashed potatoes, baked mac and cheese, rolls, green beans, sweet potatoes, lots of pies, and canned cranberry sauce. I made fresh sauce last year but nobody ate it. Apparently if it isn't can-shaped and wiggly, they aren't interested lol. 1
queenkishaa Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 I don't have to cook this year [emoji2] , just have to bring mac and cheese. More time to shop. Sent from my SM-G920T using GottaDeal mobile app 1
Bopeep Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 We will have the usual Thanksgiving fare...Turkey and all the trimmings. I will be responsible for deviled eggs and for snickers salad. There will be pies and cakes and cookies for dessert. We will be at my aunt's house, which is about 30 minutes away from my mom's house (which is BF central for my little group). We'll eat around noon, chat for just a bit, do the dishes, and be out of there by 1:30 or 2:00. My aunt and cousins all go BF shopping too, so they're kind of pushing us out the door by that point so they can make their own gameplan . We'll meet at Mom's and go through the ads, even though we've seen them all already there's something about sitting 'round the table with the papers all strewn about. 1
Bopeep Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 What is this Snickers Salad you speak of?That's a favorite of some of my cousins, and I seriously get hated on if I show up without it. LOL. It's really simple - 1 8oz package of cream cheese1-2 of the big bowls of Cool Whip, depending on how creamy you like it. I usually use about 1.5 bowls in the mix, then use half a bowl to top it because this is not a pretty dessert.7-10(ish) granny smith apples8(ish) regular size Snickers bars, diced (or, if you buy the little bags of unwrapped snickers bites, I use about 2 bags. cut them in half, or quarter them) mix it all together, and you have Snickers Salad. Mix the cream cheese into the cool whip first, then fold in the candy and apples. The more candy and apples you add, the tougher it gets to stir. The hardest part is cutting the Snickers bars. I'm going to attempt to use my new KitchenAid food processor dicing kit this year - but I don't know how it'll handle the caramel or how easy it'll clean up. 1
Elmck Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Mom and I usually cook together but this year her brother is having surgery the Wednesday before Thanksgiving so I think I'll be doing most of it this year. Turkey, Ham, Mashed potatoes, gravy, mac and cheese, candied yams, dressing, green beans, green bean casserole, succotash, collards, deviled eggs, watergate salad, fruit salad, cranberry sauce (jellied canned kind) 4 kinds of pie, fruit cake, another kind of cake, pecan tassies, and rolls. I think that's it. We usually eat around 1 PM

MariahA Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 We always have turkey, at least 15 pounds of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, lots of gravy, homemade crescent rolls, and at least 5 pumpkin pies. Other stuff varies, we'll decide closer to time.

nini Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 The traditional Thanksgiving meal is one of my favorites. I'd eat it year round if I could. AuntJamelle Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 The hardest part is cutting the Snickers bars. I'm going to attempt to use my new KitchenAid food processor dicing kit this year - but I don't know how it'll handle the caramel or how easy it'll clean up. I have to cut various candy bars up for some of my Christmas cookie recipes and the best way I've found is to chill them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. Then I use a big knife on our cutting board and it seems to work pretty well. If they are too hard to chop when you pull them out of the freezer I just let them sit out on counter for a minute or so and then try again. Good luck using your Kitchen Aid though! Maybe that will do the trick! 1
