rst02 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I just heard that the price of the Chicago Tribune will increase the price of the paper for tomorrow issue only from 75 cents to $1.99.
debbiedana Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Jerks. I usually buy three for the coupons. Whatever, I'll just get the Sun Times.
dealluvr Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 i agree, thanksgiving is a time to be thankful not gouge people for their money!!
AndreaInNC Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 same here in Raleigh, NC. Thursday's paper will be the same price as Sunday's $2.00
Marcster Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 That's just ridiculous --- as if they don't make enough money from all the stores paying the newspaper to put in all those store circular inserts.
mudd274 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Nashville Tennessean is 2.00 too!!! They are cutting into my black friday spending money!!!! MEANIES.
kselzer Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 wow - if you're any kind of subscriber (daily, weekend, sunday only, etc) then you get a free paper on Thanksgiving in my area. I'm not sure what the price would be if you went to the store though, but I haven't heard of any price increases.
Rebirth Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I am sure they always charge Sunday price for Thanksgiving. Luckily for me, I get the paper for free.
speeddiva Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 My local paper does it too...normal weekday price is 50 cents but the one with the BF ads in it (todays!) is $1.50. I have a sub so it doesn't affect me, but it's still crap.
santaclaus Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Our local paper here in Cincinnati has been doing that for at least 3 years. They charge the same price as they do for a Sunday paper.
queenofshopping Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Cry me a river - the New York Times costs $2 a day, every day...$5 on Sunday.
iluvwalmart Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 If you have a Dollar Tree try getting the paper there. They are gonna be opened on Thanksgiving. I go there for my Sunday paper & only pay 1.00!
i blame history Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 haha for some reason that does not surprise me! I love Chicago, but it causes many, MANY headaches. To the locals, I don't even need to explain why my husband and I are going up to Lake Co. for our BF shopping!
wx4svr Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Same for the Courier Journal here in Louisville I believe.
mrmogway Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I get mine delivered, I wonder if it'll be more or it only applies to stand price. (gotta watch out for thieves as well). I'm kinda glad my delivery guy has a hole in his muffler.
Marcster Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Just stopped in my local convenience store... Indeed, tomorrow's paper will be $1.50 (the regular Sunday's price).
Svuroo Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 haha for some reason that does not surprise me! I love Chicago, but it causes many, MANY headaches. To the locals, I don't even need to explain why my husband and I are going up to Lake Co. for our BF shopping!Just avoid the BB in Vernon Hills! But enjoy the lower sales tax!
andybrooke Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 maybe they have to hire temps to get all the papers out on Thanksgiving? the newspaper industry has been hit really hard with the economy and the internet.
devilish Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Times are tough. The local paper around here charges Sunday price too. Mebbe I should empty a news stand the hawk the papers in retaliation
riven3d Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I used to do that when I was younger, snag more than 1 paper, leave the paper box slightly ajar. Something else I always do when buying a Sunday paper is put in the price for the daily paper and see if it will open, they sometimes forget to turn the key to Sunday
jb2013 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Does the LA times give a free newspaper for thanksgiving? I'm a weekend subscriber.
tosit Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 My local paper, News-Press in Fort Myers Florida, is charging extra for tomorrow. It doesn't make sense to me---don't they get more revenue from the ads? I have taken a stand...No paper for me.
conj Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 it makes perfect sense - supply and demand... the demand rises on Tday... so does the price. Same thing with Airline tickets...
miss_heidi Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 The local papers we sell at my work are the same way. The Detroit Free Press and Macomb Daily charge the Sunday rates for the T-Day paper. So, it'll be $1.50 tomorrow for each instead. Here I thought every place did this. Guess not.
davephillyj Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I remember last year there was a whole machine full of papers and it would not take any money! The owners went out there and put up a sign saying out of order but someone broke the glass and took one leaving the $2 on top. So he went out there and brought them in and sold them all! That was the only place in town that had any at 7am on Thanksgiving. But I got my coupons and sales papers! LOL (it was not I that broke into it)
i blame history Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Just avoid the BB in Vernon Hills! But enjoy the lower sales tax!I think we will be hitting everything in Deer Park... is Vernon Hills unnaturally crazy on BF? Well, it's going to be unnaturally crazy anywhere, but you know what I mean
