Very interesting. It could be possible that one of the stores decides to release their ad late in the night on election night, especially if the election takes a while to decide, say 2 or 3 in the morning. I could see a company release one just after midnight to give people something to read or even create a little buzz in the morning.

The article mentions they will continue the Savings Catcher, so as long as they do that it won't affect me any.

I heard about this on a local radio show this morning, but I think the key to this story is inside this article. While its stores have the option to open on Thanksgiving, the significance of a setting of that size saying "no" to the holiday hours could be influential across retail. The USA Today article called it "bold." I think we'll have to wait and see if most of the stores decide to close or not. Personally I don't care one way or another, but I would be okay with the sales shifting back to Friday again.

Any predictions on 32 inch TV's? I have a couple that work ok, but they are lower end so the color seems a bit messed up and would like to upgrade. I don't care about getting anything bigger unless a 40 inch is within my budget. Also are the TV's with the built in Roku's worth it or would it be better to just get a really good TV and a Roku separate? I don't have a need for a Roku, but if they are good TV's I wouldn't be opposed to spending a bit more to have it included.

I use Savings Catcher from Walmart, and I use Coke Reward Points to get gift cards to Amazon. I also am a member of a few survey sites. The ones that have Amazon gift cards I save for them, but most only give out magazines.

I noticed Home Alone 2 was coming on Freeform in a week or two, maybe it was another channel (I only get like 20 so I think it was Freeform or CMT). So be on the lookout for others popping up before the end of Halloween.

I got a nice haul, since its mostly sports related I'm going to talk about it on my blog later, but I'll mention it here since. I got a Triple H action figure, some football cards, autographed baseball card of George Brett, and an autographed book written by wrestler Booker T. I still have a couple more Christmas gatherings so I will likely get a couple more things too. As a bonus I used my best buy gift card to buy two more seasons of Burn Notice, so now I just need the first and last season to complete the set (well, and the Sam Axe movie if I'm being a completest).

Has anybody seen the new movie Santa's Little Helper? It came out on DVD last month I think, but has been showing on USA Network this week. I was drawn to it because it has a couple wrestlers in it (The Miz and Paige), but thought overall it was a decent film. The whole family can watch as its pretty clean. It reminded me of a Hallmark movie in a sense, and it dragged a bit at times, but overall I liked it. It also stars AnnaLynne McCord if you're not into watching the wrestlers in it. I think there is a few more airings this week (once it comes on after Jingle All The Way 2 with Larry The Cable Guy, which isn't too bad either, but nothing like the original). If you're looking for a new movie to check out for the holidays, this may be the one.

If a business is open and I wasn't having a family gathering that day, I wouldn't think twice about going. My family has many Christmas dinners and celebrations (same with Thanksgiving) and as it turns out I usually don't have many plans on holidays (due to family members working and such), so in a sense its just another day. I've said before that too much focus is on the calendar date and not so much the gathering. If the workers don't want to work that day and are forced to, that sucks I admit, but I've worked in businesses where many people were more than willing to work on holidays. Personally I loved working those days because of lighter work and more pay. I worked almost every holiday except New Years Day just because I didn't want to deal with drunks. Which I also tried not to go out on New Years Day either.

Here it is December 9th, and finally today the balance on the gift card was restored. I sent an email to Best Buy and never heard back, and the same for Paypal. Since Paypal is waiting on Best Buy, I figure they will scrub the pending charge off soon, but I'll keep my eye out. The only communication I got from Best Buy was through Facebook and Twitter which said "we're swamped, you should get an email soon". After a week I brought it up again, and they wanted me to message them on Facebook the info. Besides already writing it on their wall, I don't like doing business through social media. So since the gift card is restored, I'll find a way to use it, then I doubt I'll go to them online anymore, especially for Holiday shopping.

Thanks! I might have to hook up my DVD recorder and record it.

I can't remember if its a Hallmark or a Lifetime movie, but does anyone know if or when they are showing "Christmas on the Bayou" this year? It has Hilarie Burton, Tyler Hilton, and Ed Asner in it, and I really liked it. Being a big fan of all three, I only initially watched because of them, but I thought the acting all around was good.

The local nursing home I live by does this and even (at least they have in years past) have had a "Decorate The Door" where youth groups or anybody picks a resident's door and gives it a holiday facelift. I think they do this for Halloween too. I think its great that they do it.

Family Force 5 rocks!

I can't say I bought all this on Cyber Monday, but throughout the weekend I did buy a ton of music on the Microsoft Store site. In total I think I got around 25 albums or so. I spent a whopping $2.50 total for all of them. They had a ton of 10 cent albums, and I picked up some I've wanted, and some just took a shot on. I had a $25 gift card I won a few months ago about to expire so I figured I'd get some of them. I still have enough to buy one or two more 10 dollar albums, but I tend to be a bit more pickier on those selections. I also plan on placing an order on Amazon today though I put it all in my cart yesterday. Thanks to Coke points, I got another $10 gift card to Amazon, so I'm up to $50 on there now. I'm still deciding on a couple items or else I'd already have placed the order.
-
Congrats! I hope you guys put those items to good use. A lot of the time I was posting this season I forgot about the contest. I was happy that I finally got over the 300 post mark this year. Maybe by next year I'll reach the 500 post mark.

After what happened to me with Best Buy, I decided on holding off buying at other places online. I guess I'm glad I decided not to try my luck with Walmart. I'm curious if the sour taste of online shopping felt by so many people this year will result in more in-store shopping next year or if it will cause people just to stop doing Black Friday altogether. Personally I think I'll probably skip online shopping on BF next year and either look harder for deals throughout the year or go to more stores in person.

So 4 days later, and I still have the same situation. Paypal is saying they authorized the payment for my order, and Best Buy is saying I never placed an order. I'm not sure who I need to contact first to resolve this problem. It appears no money changed hands, but Best Buy is saying I have no money left on my gift card. So if I didn't place an order, WHERE DID THE GIFT CARD GO? I still planned on using the card balance ($25) when it was put back on the card (an egift card) but now I'm not too sure I want to do business with them. In addition to that, I've never received an email from Best Buy mentioning the order wasn't placed. Usually Amazon or Walmart will send an email saying the order didn't go through and ask if I still want it. All I've got from Best Buy is an email every 6 hours telling me to check out more sales. It's a bit hard to do when I have no gift card and they won't accept my credit cards/paypal as payment. It seems every year I have a problem using gift cards online on Black Friday. A couple years ago it was Gamestop, now Best Buy. I guess I can do business elsewhere next time and not use survey points on gift cards to places that cause more trouble than they are worth.
-
I placed my order (or tried to early this morning), it kept saying there was a glitch. At any rate, its not showing any order on my Best Buy page but on my paypal page its saying its waiting for Best Buy to authorize it. I'm not sure what's up. What makes me mad isn't if I don't get the order, but its holding up the order and won't let me use the $25 gift card I have for something else. I just wish they would cancel the order or something. I'll try to reorder it if they did.
-
I can's seem to check out. I'm trying to use paypal and it keeps giving me issues. I'll figure it out later, but I'm just getting mad. No worries though, I just hope the Roku SE doesn't sell out before I figure it out.

I haven't seen an actual ad, but happened to be on their site the other day and they had tons of items on sale. I can't say if they were deals because honestly I haven't ever used their site for Black Friday, but a couple items seemed like good deals. As for the brick and mortar store, I haven't stepped foot in on in probably a decade since they moved out of my local mall. Even then I was only in there a handful of times. I do miss the store, but I think I've seen enough Mickey Mouse plush items to last a lifetime, so I'm good for a while.
-
I don't remember using coupons on Black Friday, but I remember seeing more in the past. I think part of it is the hassle of dealing with coupons on the busiest day of they year, combined with as you mentioned better deals. Taking the coupons out of it should have helped the line times, but it attracted more shoppers. I also think a lot of places are loading coupons onto their customer cards so I have a feeling coupons in general could be going away sooner than later.

You might want to check the paper's website or facebook, they usually announce it. I got an email from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch saying the ads would be in today's paper and would be hitting the newstands this afternoon. As for in the mail, I usually don't get any outside of ones in the weekly free paper I get, which should come today. I expect only 4-5 in there, the main one being Walmart and Menards.

I second that, do it quick. I cashed mine out last week and it took about 6 hours. I'm sure a lot of other folks are planning cashing out today or just have so they might get a little backlogged.

I keep getting emails from Hibbett's sports but they never post an actual ad. I am hoping to get a good deal on some Royals Championship gear.
