  1. Yeah, I am looking at getting one for my grandparents, so they can put their pictures on there from their Ireland and Thailand trips that they have recently taken. I may look to put on in my office, too.
  2. $153 is a good deal for the A570IS alone. The added 2GB card makes it a very nice deal.
  3. kimmie - You should be able to find a DSLR kit on BF in the somewhere in the $450-$650 range. Sears has the Nikon D40 kit advertised at $449.99. That may be an easier one to get than to try to get doorbusters at Best Buy, Circuit City or Walmart. Sears will also have the Canon Digital Rebel XT kit for $600. That's not a great deal, because I know I've seen it cheaper in recent days, since it's one kit older than the current Rebel XTi. Watch this portion of the site for posted BF DSLR deals: http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/BlackFridaySales/Category/DigitalCameras
  4. Yeah, that would be a great camera for a 14 year old. I'd say that the Canon A560 ($127 shipped from Amazon.com right now) would be even better, if they have a serious interest in photography. If they are just wanting to snap some pics of whatever they do with their friends, though, the Kodak is adequate.

Their loss, for sure. The smaller players really could benefit from the added publicity that GottaDeal would bring them.
  6. What's your budget on those 2 cameras, shopping mom? Any inexpensive camera will have a little bit of lag while it processes the photo, but some are better than others.
  7. Thanks, I hadn't thought of TJ Maxx.
  8. I think that TomTom is the only company that offers free map software updates right now. For that reason alone, I'd seriously consider shopping their products. I love my Garmin handheld GPS, but if I want the maps updated, I have to buy a ~$100 piece of software.
  9. I guess it all depends on what deals you are looking for. I've got a list of things that I'm interested in getting for my home workshop, so I'm pretty happy with the Sears ad.
  10. Our son is moving from a crib to a twin bed, and we have nothing in the way of sheets, comforters, or anything else. Anyone know where I can find some decent bedding for a reasonable price? If I don't find anything online, I'm headed to Kohl's tomorrow with my 30% off coupon, so I should be able to find decent sheets somewhere in the $10 - $15 range. Not sure on comforter prices.
  11. I'm going to guess that it's their 7mp model with only digital zoom, which I wouldn't even consider buying. If you are looking for a very basic (and very cheap) entry level camera, you might consider trying to get the Sony DSC-S700 camera from Sears for $89.99. It's in their BF ad, in the early bird specials.

  13. Thanks, I always like to have a couple of spares for the PDA / Camera / GPS.
  14. Welcome to GottaDeal cassidyfan! From what you say, I would recommend a Canon S5 IS for you. It's an excellent digital point-and-shoot, but can take video clips up the the amount of free storage you have on your card. I don't think that there's really a all-in-one solution, yet, that doesn't have to compromise on either the video or photo side. Here's a review / preview of the S5 IS: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons5is/
  15. I don't work for Kohl's, but I'm pretty sure you'll have to take a Merchandise Return Credit (in-store credit) for and purchase that gets you Kohl's Cash.
  16. the D40 / D40x are great cameras, but if you are going to buy one, you should know that they will only Auto-Focus with AF-S and AF-I lenses, so if you have an older lens, everything will probably be manual focus. The higher end Nikons and the entry level Canon cameras have a focus drive, so they can auto-focus with a non AF lens.
  17. Good news. :) Maybe this is a sign that a lot of odd "Doyle laws" will start to get exposed for what they really are. The minimum markup has been puzzling for a long time.
  18. The A560 is a great point-and-shoot camera, with quality much better than it's entry-level pricing. However, you can get that same A570IS for only $158 at Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-A570IS-Digital-Stabilized/dp/B000NK3H4S/ref=sr_1_3/105-1397197-0843643?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1194296229&sr=1-3
  19. The definitely are. We've got 2 offices using them (9 monitors) and they are great.
  20. Yeah, hopefully I will be home for BF. Otherwise, we'll see what Rhinelander has to offer. He's 2 as of mid-August, so life is changing daily.
  21. I'm not sure what your son-in-law is into, but I like what my MIL does for Christmas. First off, our family doesn't like to go nuts on gifts, and second, we like to give useful things. I always get a GC (~$25) for Sears / Home Depot and something for the kitchen. I'm fairly certain that my wife is letting her know what kind of cooking I'm experimenting with, because it's always the perfect kitchen tool for whatever my current culinary endeavor is at the time. Anyway, I'd say just go with usefulness rather than worrying about spending enough or buying the right quantity.
  22. That's a heck of a price. I'm tempted to get it for my basement workshop...and then I can sneak it into my office, come March Madness. Welcome back, Cronos! Your son looks so old, now!
  23. You could pick up a gift certificate from Restaurant.com and use the 70% off coupon code for it. ("TREATS", exp 10/31/07)
  24. Congrats! Knowing your area, I'd say your still in for a lot more before spring. I love snow, too. I try to get out skiing at least 2-3 times per month, but it doesn't always happen that way. It's 66 degrees here, right now, so I'm guessing no snow today.
  25. Not all Kodak cameras are affected by the quality issues, but the percentages are too high for me to be willing to recommend their cameras. As far as the difference you'll get in that extra zoom range, it will be noticable, but it wouldn't be enough for me to upgrade if I had an adequate camera. The cameras that I'm using right now are both Canon and I didn't upgrade until it was going to be significant. My first is a Canon S110 Digital Elph, and it still works perfectly at 6 years old. The other is a Canon G5, which is now 3 1/2 years old. The pictures that my oldest one take were often better than the Kodak camera's the my friends and family had in the past couple of years. The G5 is still an excellent camera, and it will stick with me at least until I get an SLR, but I'll probably keep using it like I have with my S110. I guess my point here is that if you buy a Canon, you know that the quality is good, because they filter down technology from their upper end cameras into their entry and mid-level cameras. Take a look at www.dpreview.com and www.steves-digicams.com to find reviews of the cameras that you are specifically looking at. Steve's has a "best of" link that gives you his recommendation on the best cameras in a given category (entry, compact, ultra-zoom, etc).
