  1. I changed the other two receivers to DVRs, this is what I got: ------------------------------------------- One Time Fees Digital Home Plan Activation Fee $49.99 One Time Cost: $49.99 Monthly Equipment Fees DVR FEE $4.98 DVR FEE $4.98 DVR FEE $4.98 Programming America's Top 60 Plus (with locals) $34.99 Digital Home Advantage (2 Receiver) $5.00 Digital Home Advantage (3 Receiver) $5.00 --------------------------------------------------------- They're charging me for 3 DVRs instead of 4... I guess the first must be free? And I'm a bit confused about why they're charging me one extra receiver fee in the first plan I posted, and 2 in this plan, when I have the same number of receivers. Maybe it's based on tuners? But if so, I really have 8 tuners, 2 in each. This is why I've never gotten satellite radio yet.
  2. Does this sound right? I selected 4 receivers, this is the prices they gave me: -------------------------------- Digital Home Advantage Plan $50 setup fee (refunded on first month's bill) Free equipment Monthly fees Monthly Equipment Fees DVR FEE $4.98 Programming America's Top 60 Plus (with locals) $34.99 Digital Home Advantage (2 Receiver) $5.00 ----------------------------------- I'm not sure why it says 2 receivers on the monthly fees instead of 4. I also selected 2 DVRs, they charge the same monthly fee as if I had 1, is that right?
  3. I need: - 4 receivers, at least one with DVR. I know DirectTV charges $5 extra for TiVO, is that $5 extra PER DirecTiVO receiver, or $5 for the service regardless of the number of receivers? What about Dish Network? Do they charge extra for DVR, and is it a per-recorder fee? - Basic cable channels (including local) Which service would be better to go with? How much am I going to pay for: - Equipment? Where's the best place to buy it? - Monthly service?
  4. Why are they doing this? What's the symbolism of the red shirts?
  5. I have the ad at home, I'll post the list tonight.
  6. I got mine already. The important section at least.
  7. Jebus, how much did you go through?
  8. You gave them permission to give her your phone number after she lied to them about why she wanted to call, and you blame the salvation army? When I said I don't volunteer because I don't have time, I meant I don't volunteer to be a bell ringer. I do volunteer a good deal of my time to non-profit organization, just not the salvation army.
  9. Conscript - thanks for making everyone here aware of this, particularly the policy of not allowing return/rebuys. It doesn't surprise me that they're doing this - they limit the number of loss leaders they have in stock to limit their losses. If they were not able to limit their losses, they would just cut out the loss leaders altogether, meaning less deals for us. Having to wait in line for a few hours for a deal is better than no deal at all, and knowing ahead of time that you won't be able to return/rebuy is better than finding out when they're already out of stock on Black Friday.
  10. Does it detract from what they're doing if they pay people to collect donations? I'm sure they don't like having to pay people to do it, but apparantly there aren't enough volunteers. Why don't you volunteer? I know I don't because I don't have time - so I contribute by donating money instead.
  11. What is with people and boycotting? Every store does something that somebody doesn't like, how long before you don't have anyplace to shop?
  12. What town is it in?
  13. It's worth hiding to them - because if you got the ad ahead of time, you could go to the store and see that they're just advertising their regular prices. :)
  14. That would have the potential for some interesting pranks if it weren't for the blasted "phone authentication". I wonder how they pull that off, they must have a ton of phone lines.

    Advice on Gamecube

They tend to do that. Not sure why people still equate Sony with quality, they have known issues with some of their DVD players that cause them to die after approximately 1.5 years of use (google sony dvd C 13:00). It's outside the warranty period, so why bother to correct the problem? I love my Gamecube, but I'm not a hardcore gamer. There are plenty of games out there for Gamecube, but it's lacking in games like the GTA series.
  16. ... and then you have to hope the person you talked to actually knew what she was talking about. :)
  17. Home Depot and Lowe's don't really have good BF sales. They'll have a huge ad, but it'll be full of their regular prices for the most part. Last year Lowe's only had 1 page of sale prices, and they weren't very impressive.
  18. Alright, so for the 6-12 specials I'd have to go to Walmart between 6 and 12, but for the deals that are good all day Friday, would they pricematch before 6 a.m., or does it have to be during the other store's hours of operation?

    Costco Ad scans

  20. At what time will 24-hour Walmarts pricematch Friday-only specials from other stores? Midnight? 6:00 a.m.? Will they pricematch prices that are only available for the first few hours of the morning?
  21. How much you looking to spend? Costco B&M has one for $200, looked pretty nice.
  22. I watched the season finale of West Wing season 2 the other night (Two Cathedrals)... that's got to be one of the best single tv show episodes in the history of television.
  23. Best Buy has 50 packs of Fujifilm for $20 this week. I got two packs of Tayo Yudens or whatever they're called. Is there a better deal on DVD+Rs on Black Friday? Supposedly Costco will have their 25 packs of TDK media for $20, buy one get one free. They're $15 at my Costco, so maybe $15 for 50?
  24. There are way too many factors to possibly tell. The area you live in, what store it is, what deals the store has, etc. Last year I got to Best Buy sometime around 4 I think... it was already lined up out of the parking lot and down the street. I drove to a Circuit City in a different town, there wasn't a single person lined up at 5 a.m. If you go, be prepared to lose any faith you have in human decency.
  25. I don't mean to question your decision to buy your kid a laptop for high school, but is there a reason a desktop won't work? If you get him a laptop, it's likely that it'll never leave his desk, and you could get a system with better specs for your money by going with a desktop (meaning, it could actually last him the 4 years). I bought a laptop in January 2002 that was about middle of the pack, and it's a PIII 1.0 GHz. That's way beyond low-end now, even when the rate of increase in processor speeds has decreased. It's usable for what I use it for, but I wouldn't use it as my primary computer. Now on the other hand, if you went with a desktop system you could get a much better system out of the box, and you'd have far more upgrade opportunities in the future. Now if you REALLY want a laptop, wait for the Black Friday ads to come out. Best Buy had a decent one for $500 last year.
