  1. I guess the 2 things I plan to buy him will probably cost as much as we will spend on his brother anyway LOL;) Just want to make dh feel like he has a say in it, but as I said, I do ALL of our shopping so I'll buy what I want to for them both
  2. No, when he graduated in 2008 and told us he wasn't going to go to college, he had to get a job and pay his own car insurance and other bills. We did still feed him though and he was allowed to continue living with us at no cost. Wasn't trying to be mean parents, just trying to make him grow up as he was very immature. Well after a year of working night stock at Walmart he decided he wanted to go to college. So we agreed to help him as much as we are able by paying car insurance etc. And his younger brother is 7 so yes, we pay for his food and living expenses LOL;) We're not talking about buying him NOTHING, just cutting it back to a couple of things he wants instead of trying to keep the dollar amounts the same between the 2 kids. DH just feels that he has a job and is able to buy what he wants most of the time so it's time for us to cut back:confused:
  3. DH and I have 2 kids, ds19 and ds7. DH thinks that since ds19 is an adult and has moved away to college that we should cut back the amount of $$ we spend on him for Christmas. While we can't afford to pay his college and living expenses, we are paying for his cell phone, car insurance, and helping with food and clothing. To put it lightly, he is costing us a fortune right now LOL!!! I have ALWAYS spent the same amount of $$ on each of our 2 kids and feel guilty about cutting his back and leaving ds7's the same. DH sees it as ds19 got that much (and more since he was an only child for 12 years) since he was born and now he should get cut back and ds7 should get the same until he is an adult. Is it ok to spend less on an adult child than on a minor child? Don't get me wrong, ds19 would still get a good bit spent on him, just not as much as ds7. So now, give me your opinions (Please be gentle ) Oh yeah, and just because I may let dh think we are going to do this, doesn't really mean I will since I do ALL of the shopping;) I'm undecided yet.
  4. When ds19 was little, he had to clean out his toybox every year in October or November to make room for new toys Santa would bring. Most of them were like new and I often saved the original boxes and donated them to a program that let low income parents come and pick out gently used toys for their children for Christmas. He was always willing to donate. We haven't started anything with ds7 because he really doesn't get it yet. We do give him money to put in the Salvation Army Kettle at Walmart when we go though. He enjoys that and we try to explain to him what the money is used for.
  5. Geez,, my sister and I spend $20-30 per kid on each other's children
  6. That's how my Walmart is too. They have had the same items in the clearance aisle FOREVER because they refuse to mark them down more than $0.50:eyepoppin
  7. It seems that you seem to think my whole post is just about you When I said "get over it" I mean everyone complaining that they aren't going to shop at a store because they won't say "Merry Christmas". By saying "Merry Christmas" it is leaving out all the other religions whereas "Happy Holidays" includes everyone. And I stand by my statement that EVERYONE complaining about it needs to step back and see it from the other side (other religions) and GET OVER IT.
  8. I believe you said "My big complaint is simply stores expecting to profit off of Christmas, but find even the word "Christmas" too offensive to use in their marketing." To which I replied "Stores don't find the word Christmas offensive, their customers who practice a different religion find the word Christmas offensive when it is pushed upon them." Now, what part of that do I need to re-read???? A Pine Tree can be decorated and called whatever the owner would like to call it as far as I am concerned. After all, what did a tree have to do with Christ's Birthday?
  9. Big Lots has Twin size fold away beds with mattresses for $99 and there is a 20% off coupon right now.
  10. Stores don't find the word Christmas offensive, their customers who practice a different religion find the word Christmas offensive when it is pushed upon them. Which is what is being done when you say it to everyone. Happy Holidays includes everyone!! Just as you get upset when they don't say "Merry Christmas" to you, how would you feel if every store decided just to say "Happy Hanukkah"? Oh that's right, you wouldn't shop there. Which is WHY stores want to say "Happy Holidays" and include EVERYONE!!! Why do so many people have so much trouble with EVERYONE BEING INCLUDED in the well wishes. Celebrate your holiday and get over it already:rolleyes:
  11. I vow to look at EVERY one of the ads you spend the time posting:tongue1: (Seriously, we DO appreciate your work!!) I also vow to try to remember to click through GottaDeal when making online purchases.
  12. Well put Illinoismom:yup:. One of my biggest "pet peeves" is someone trying to push their religious beliefs on others. I believe that you should respect EVERYONE'S beliefs and religions/ non-religions. Don't push your beliefs on me and I won't push mine on you;) I shop on BF to get good deals on items for Christmas, because we celebrate Christmas. But have no problem with Happy Holidays or whatever else you would like to wish me;) After all, whatever you say to me, you are still wishing me well. Some people need to get over themselves and enjoy their families instead of just looking for stuff to complain about:eyepoppin
  13. My mom and I always go shopping together on BF. Well a few years ago my younger sister decided to join us and she is NOT a morning person. She whined the whole car ride and then was in shock over the way people actually push and shove to get what they want. When we dropped her off at her house about 18 hours later, she told her husband "You know that movie Jingle All The Way? I was in that today!!" Now she's hooked! One year a friend of mine was shopping at Walmart, she was pregnant and had her young son with her in the cart. She had grabbed the last toy (can't for the life of me remember what it was ) and put it in her cart only to have some crazy lady grab it out of her cart and take off running with it:eek: She couldn't do anything but watch and I was an aisle over.
  14. There are many different religions in the USA and each one celebrate a different Holiday, that is the reason for using "Holidays" instead of just Christmas. While I understand your point, you may not feel the same if you went to a store that told you Happy Hanukkah when you celebrate Christmas, the same way a person who celebrates Hanukkah might not appreciate being told Merry Christmas. The stores are trying to take everyone into consideration.
  15. I have several boxes that I bought in previous years on clearance, but I never send them out. Might this year though...who knows?? They're good to have around for Teachers, neighbors, etc though
  16. Well, I'm disappointed Went to Target yesterday. College 09 stuff is clearance but it seems they decided not to include the futons:( Clerk told me this is the 1st year they haven't been included in the clearance. Figures:rolleyes: Just my luck
  17. That's correct at this time. My GUESS is that if they are going to have a 'site to store lay-away' that would mean extending the time you have to pick it up. Too many people said they used lay-away to 'hide' their purchases from family members but Walmart doesn't want to have actual lay-away again so a good solution would be letting you order it online, paying for it when ordered, having it shipped site to store, and letting you keep it in there for a longer period of time for the holidays. As I said, this is only a guess on my part based in part on the OP's post and things I have heard elsewhere;)
  18. My guess would be that if you order something online and have it shipped site-to-store they will let you keep it there for as long as you want. Since it is already paid for, they won't lose any money on it. That's what they complained about with lay-away, people would put what they thought would be the hot toys on lay-away then never pay for them and pick them up causing Walmart to lose money. Ehh, just a guess.
  19. Bought a box of diapers and the top half was ruined, had something all over the diapers. Called and they told me they would replace the box and wanted me to send in the ruined ones (which I did) but instead I received 4 $10 off coupons and we only use about a box a month (potty training and he only wears them to bed) so we'll only need 3 (maybe only 2) of them as they expire Dec. 2010.
  20. I have a coupon for $10 off Pampers diapers box. What do you have for it? Gift cards, freebies you've received and won't use (especially toys or TAG books), or what???? itunes cards? xbox live codes or points? What do you have to offer? Bump I would be willing to trade for a lot of boxtops since my son's school is now collecting them.
  21. Anyone know what it says is Free with purchase beside it??? My mom is going to buy one on Sunday and need to know if it's worth the trip to TRU or just hit up the local Walmart?
  22. Another Ohio shopper here!! Newark, OH Zanesville, OH Coshocton, OH Anyone close by??
