Do you hate telling people what YOU want for Christmas?
samisma replied to mom2monkiesx3's topic in 2007
This is difficult for me, always has but more so now. I'm not very well off-financially, and I'm a single mom. My family asked me to make a wish list and all I could think of was that I wanted them to give savings bonds or something I could put in DD's savings account for college. Are there things that I want? Absolutely. But there's nothing I want more than to be able to have that savings for my daughter. I wouldn't turn away a gift though -
What's monkey bread? We normally get fresh bagels & bialli's (sp?) and have them with scrapple & eggs. I don't know what we'll do this year though, apparently bialli's and scrapple are regional things. I ordered some to be shipped here, but don't think it'll make it in time for Christmas!

You might be lucky. I can't recall a time when my brother and I ever noticed who had more presents. The only thing that was ever noticed... My brother was given a car when he was 17 (oh boy was it a beater car!), I was almost 13 and boy was I like "what?!" but then my parents gave me sewing machine and I felt I had the better half of the deal. (ha, and i did - i used that machine well into my 20s. the car lasted 2 years before it just died)

wow. i never had any issues at all like that. i'm so sorry. i never picked up the train up north though and have never been to either of those towns. i'm a train person... i hate planes and will only take them when there's no other option. for example, i can't find a train that goes from az to nj. so i fly back. and then i need a stiff drink when i get on solid ground again. lol

From where in NJ to where in NC?!! Jeez that seems like a long time. I used to drive from Gloucester County, NJ to Newport News, Va. Occasionally from NJ to Nags Head, NC - only hit 10 hours once because there was a fire in the Delmar area (by the casino). Oh, and FYI I don't know if they still do this, but if www.collegeclub.com is still around you get a 10% off discount in addition to any other discounts you can find. Just need to give them your membership # when ordering. And yeah.. speeding tickets on rt 13 are no joke. I got one on the chesapeake bay bridge (10mile bridge). Only ticket in my life actually. (sorry. not trying to jack the thread)

for 2 years i took this route Newport News Va to Philadelphia, PA at least once a month (and vice versa) as I shuttled between college(va) and home(nj). It took on average 7.5 hours. Once we exited Va the trip seemed to fly by. There is (was?) a 1 hour stop at DC every time though. to compare it to driving, i could make the trip via car in 6-8 hours depending on traffic. But that area around DC (manassas etc) is absolutely brutal and I would much rather nap on a comfy train then sit in traffic in that area. If you do drive instead of taking the train, a nice alternative to the highways is US RT 13. It basically runs parallel to the train route, but you are closer to the coast, it's more scenic, less conjested, and there are a lot of great small restaurants on the way.

I'm scared to count. Before Amazon I only had 3 for my daughter. And I was scared that I wouldn't be able to get her anything fun (the original 3 were clothes), but thanks to the Amazon thread..... Well. The tree is very full. I even have about 5 gifts for my godson, and normally I only get him 2 (1 big 1 little). I hope every year will be this easy on my wallet!

this year: DD my parents my brother DD's Nana my aunt & uncle my cousin & his wife one friend 'secret sister' DD's godmother my godson mailman 14 people, and then i try to get at least 2 gifts for charity. I'm sure as DD gets older it'll get more ridiculous (teachers, bus drivers etc). It should be 15 people, but since the newspaper man keeps delivering the paper to my next door neighbor's (who were murdered) front stoop.... I hate even thinking about that house, let alone going up the driveway every morning to get the paper.

Reccomentdation needed: bassinets
samisma replied to SlackerMoney's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
I think the best bet would be to go to Target.com or babiesrus.com only because for each item there are customer reviews. Personally I didn't do the bassinet (kinda wish i had), but I used the reviews when picking out a swing, a top-of-stair gate, high chair, etc etc. good luck to you and congratulations!!!!!! -
eek. i'm so weak. i just bought it. using that google check out thing. i guess this is my present from santa to me.

Personally, I'd give her the guitar. Even if the computer lab has strict hours. I remember in college our labs were very strict etc and to be honest I always felt like I got more accomplished there then trying to do my work in the dorms. What I would get her are a few jump drive things so that way she can easily work at the lab, save it and if necessary use a friend's computer for fine tuning. A lot of colleges also have a tech support center that will work on the computers/laptops for students. Normally it's a minimal fee. good luck!

thanks for the update! -
i love this tote. bought it a while back when it was 15.99. it's true what others have said, it's rather large for an every day purse. I love to use it for court (long story, i represent myself) because it fits all my legal docs that i could possibly need. and it's so nice, and even elegant looking that i love it even more.
