  1. One toy which is coming out this month is the ANKI OVERDRIVE race starter system. Once the kids get a load of this toy, it will quickly become one of the most requested toys due to its ease of use, modular track, and integration with IOS and Android devices. From the starter pack, you get two cars and enough track to make 8 basic layouts. You control your cars through a phone or tablet. Each car reads the road like a map with a downward facing camera. The only downside will be cost. Be prepared to shell out a $100 for the starter set. Unique to the racing game are the variables built into the downloadable app which includes the ability to electronically shoot or tractor beam the other car to slow it down. Google the name and you will find videos about this great toy!http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/132640-anki-overdrive-is-the-robot-car-game-that-every-kid-will-want-young-and-old
  2. People never seem to learn that there will never be a replacement for Black Friday. That also goes for retailers who spit at tradition and trample on their customer base.
  3. JCPenneys is famous for that. They were also villified for discontinuing it and going with the buttons fiasco. They later succumbed to consumer pressure and brought them back.
  4. Exactly! CompUSA would always come out with hot cocoa for many years. Towards the end, they forgot what made them great and the rest is history.
  5. Here is a fond memory of Best Buy Black Friday 2004. It was the free Sweet Tracks tin with music and other offerings inside. You can see the mention of it on the adscan as well. The next year, they went cheap and it was a download only. Bad move if you ask me.http://s5.postimg.org/p4deoiuqv/Sweet_Tracks.jpg
  6. We have all seen them, those little enticements to be on of the first in line. The proverbial bone, the holy grail of collectors who must have every year offered. I have my favorites, and it could be just about anything offered, even gestures of kindness count and stories of bad Black Fridays turned good by store clearks and managers doing the right thing are out there. Tell us of your favorite! My apologies for Misspelling Black Friday! I do not have seasonal Moderator privileges ......yet.
  7. My first intentional attempt at Best Buy was in 2004 also. Do you remember the tin music giveaway from that year? In 2003, I got away with waltzing into Best Buy just to see the madness after the doors were long open, and came out with a 50 inch Projection TV which was their ticketed item that year.
  8. I would like to see the "Then and Now" ads and how they stacked up , held up or went bust over time. This year we have the opportunity to recap 2004/2014, or we can wait and do 2005/2015 for more relevance. Multiple people could sign up for their favorite stores (If they are still around) and use the adscans for comparative content. Every year, the same argument arises across the web that the sales are not good and that they were better back in the day. By bringing up the past, we can better see what stood out and what we once claimed victory on was just silly in comparison to today's higher quality items.
  9. Most people are now just hearing about it. Due to limited content and a fee, some will steer clear of it to become a cord cutter in every sense of the word. If people could learn to change the way they watch TV, KODI would rule the planet. Most want instant gratification with a time slot and content, but rarely have the time to watch what is offered and when they do, they must be subjected to commercials which drive me absolutely crazy. With KODI, you search for the content you want, and if it is available you get the satisfaction of commercial free TV shows.
  10. You should be able to load KODI on it, so that will give you much more content.
  11. Oddly enough, I have never seen two people fight over one yet. This seems to be the perfect item to order online if it is offered this year.
  12. Some of my best times were facing adversity on the line with fellow line mates when dealing with line jumpers, and employees who try to change the rules at the last moment. When you band together, the experience of solidarity and friendship really shines.
  13. We never had a problem with the stock on hand. Usually, we get VIP treatment before Black Friday, Like Wednesday of the same week.
  14. Your story reminds me of the competition I used to face at my favorite Best Buy location in Orange Park, Fl. They were tent campers who would devote an extra day in order to try and beat me to the punch. I would win, only because i had some inside information on their intentions. I eventually left them to that location and they have been much happier since. my new location is well lighted and offers 24 hour security. Back in 2004-2007 I would always marvel at the sheer size of the line, which would wrap over three quarters around the building. There would always be some lady who would complain about the line getting longer and that she was counting the line....a phenomenon that persisted back in those days when the back of the line insisted that the front was cheating. The secret sale items only made the threats more tense, yet strangely funny at the same time.
  15. Back in 2006, the internet wasn't as reliable. I remember getting printed copies of the secret items brought to the line, and eventually, the store (Best Buy) passed them out before the ticketed items were brought out. I was trying to remember, but one of the stores was announcing them one at a time during Thanksgiving dinner. I recall about 7 items that saved the sale for Best Buy that year. You can clearly see that it was lackluster without them and I am afraid the importance of them could be lost over time if not archived. It was during this time that Circuit City was on the decline and Walmart became Best Buy's new major competitor.
  16. We must have gotten the same deal on Galactica!
  17. Do you remember when they started, who started them, and how long they lasted? In some form they survive today as online sales, but not like the ones from the last decade that literally saved the day for one retailer in particular....Best Buy. This is the time of year that I take stock of my current inventory of past Black Friday deals, and try to match them up with the deals that were posted. Some have been relegated to yardsales or garage inventory, yet some are still unbelieveably in service. If you are waxing nostalgic in the archives, you may remember 2006-2010 a bit underwhelming and confusing. If you cannot match your item, perhaps you bought it as one of those fleeting, yet wonderful secret sales. It would be nice to compile all secret items into one convenient location in order to show the members just how good it was. If it weren't for those sales, many laptops and televisions would not have been discounted, and we would have never known just how much competition these big box stores considered each other. Lets discuss.
  18. It is always interesting to see if bigjimslade will once again be broadcasting.
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MXQ-Android-4-4-Quad-Core-WiFi-Kodi-1080P-Smart-set-TV-Box-8GB-XBMC-Fully-Loaded-/121709127802 Ok, I will keep talking and bragging about them. I found that the wireless mouse and keyboard that was just sitting around from twwo Black Fridays ago worked flawlessly with the box. There are so many options available that you have to purchase one to see what i'm already excited about. I am telling my relatives to ask Santa for one. It looks af if the mini keyboards and mice will once again be on my BF list this year.
  20. Now for the September roll call. More of the regular BFF members chime in during this month.
  21. I enjoy the BF smartphone deals at Best Buy. If my son would learn to use a case, I would get him one.
  22. Yeah, five clearance grills are a bit much.
  23. Everyone really needs to check out the Android boxes that run Kodi on Ebay. They are a cheap alternative to many other streaming devices, and offer more options, like ethernet. You can also hook up a wireless mouse and keyboard. I got one for $38.
  24. Apparently, Televisions again.
  25. Part 2..... We collected our Televisions and proceeded to go home while the women in our group headed to the outlet malls, just like the old days. I was able to pass by the Walmart in our town, which is 16 miles from where I was. The parking lot was crammed full of cars for the first event, now 15 minutes into it. I decided to unload the first truck and then head out to the second event. I was able to get parked and make it into the produce dept where the movies were. I was able to score literally everything I was after, even the Walking dead seasons. I then squeezed through the jammed shopping carts to get close enough to catch one of the sound bars which were being thrown around. Had I wanted a cheap Emerson 32 inch. i could have gotten that as well. The only thing lacking were printers which they had very few of. The next day, the women went to event 3 at Walmart while i shopped some more items online. I then accompanied my wife to Ace Hardware where we scored 2 air beds with a $10 additional off digital coupon. My overall impression of the deals were mixed and Best Buy gets an unprecedented D- for their failures both online with server crashes and in store with employees acting as if they can make the rules up as they see fit. Walmart still does little to manage the crowds, although their 1 hour guarantee seems to help in places. Walmart gets a C+ for their well stocked store and online component.
