They really did change the program for their own benefit. It was a cost savings that they felt could be pushed on to the consumer with a few clever trips and snares masked in a program overhaul where the brass ring was moved higher by $1000. We have also seen cost savings in the form of outdated 60 Hz televisions and items in the ad designed to keep you running through the store longer. I would be surprised if they came out with any surprise items. Most rumors in the last 5 years have not panned out. Only time will tell if the early access will benefit those who spent the extra grand, or if the program finally folds under the weight of consumer disappointment.

Black Friday LIVE 2014 Webcast Schedule & Information Thread

We could go rogue and do one anyway.....   -
You need to have it activated in the store. The process will not ruin the newness and you will leave the store knowing that the item works as advertised. I plan on getting this deal. If it is anything like last year you will be able to get deal early if you are an elite member.

Will be nice but no more triple points since they stripped the benefits to the bone.
-
Even their best 4k offering is only 60hz! Laughable.
-
Overall, I would rate the ad a C+. It has some great deals on most of the items that the mainstream public would want, but misses with the 60hz televisions which cast a giant pall over the rest of the offerings. it is so pervasive that you just shake your head at what could have been if they had included more 120hz models to balance things out. With that being said, i am absolutely giddy about the movies, TV shows, Go pro camera, flash drive, hard drives...etc, etc, etc.

Being a camper myself (actually having real camping equipment with me) I get asked that question for the few days we are out there. A few years ago, the question was raised in the Florida Times Union where the Question was "Three days in line for a $199 TV?" It really doesn't matter how long the people stay out there. the questions will always be the same.

They currently are known to have 10 members from 3 families.

You can actually track down old news reports on these ladies. It used to be quite a thing to go camping the week prior to Black Friday. I remember when Brad featured the group in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area of Florida a few years back, but this has to be the earliest start time and actually shows an extreme amount of dedication. Notice how few supplies are laying around. The trick is that they trade out, and do this in shifts. To say that they are actually camping is a stretch of the imagination. They are merely holding spots. Where are the tents? Our group always has to field questions due to others in California who "Line hold" and do not sleep overnight like we do. The reporters always find it fascinating that we actually stay the entire time.

They are a part of a multifamily group who has been doing this for 6 years now. Last year, they arrived on the 14th.

http://patch.com/california/banning-beaumont/campers-already-out-beaumont-awaiting-black-friday-deals-0 As indicated on the webcast this evening, there are already people lined up at Best Buy. This may be a record. I will also try to find out if this is the location that sent the last person packing in 2013, as many management companies have now set time limits.http://cdn.patch.com/users/1396761/2014/11/545d90fdcaec3.jpg

I remember as far back as 2006, people (some of them are prominent members on these boards) had claimed that Walmart was not a direct competitor of Best Buy. I saw that hypothesis crushed time and again, since Walmart always had the market share on just about any item that other stores carried. It was always the threat of Walmart that drove Best Buy into a secret sale frenzy for 3 years. It made no difference which secondary store dabbled on Thursday. As long as Walmart stayed the course, Black Friday would remain a constant. Walmart then shifted focus to wave shopping, and then took it to a whole new level. Best Buy was forced (Now recognized by their actions as a major competitor) to move with Walmart to the new time-frame. This year is no different. I have already begun hearing of Best Buy being in a holding pattern until they learn of Walmart's opening time. As I have stated in another thread, the blame for all of this falls squarely on the shoulders of the largest retailer. This is the store where America shops. The store who claims to hold family values and traditions near and dear to our hearts. Yet, they are failing us miserably. This is like an arms race, except we are the missiles in a never ending escalation until all retailers proclaim that they want to restrict the amount of rounds, waves and time that we as the consumers can all agree on as the fair option without government regulation to stop it.
-
People will shop whenever there is an opportunity to do so. It is not fair to judge people for this. The blame solely belongs on Walmart's shoulders. Yes, you heard that right, Walmart. it does not take a stretch of the imagination to guess why.

This is my annual rant on the Lego question. If your children leave their toys lying around, Legos are absolutely the worst item to find on the floor in the dark as a parent. If they are well disciplined, Legos are worth every penny and are a wonderful toy to foster a child's creative side. As far as deals are concerned, look for store coupons that would help to bring down the price. As others have indicated, they tend to be specific to a theme when they do go on sale.
-
They need to make it a criminal act, and then people would be forced to make better decisions about the one's they are supposed to protect. It clearly makes no sense, like leaving a child in a hot car while you shop yet it happens every year. If I were a state prosecutor, any child hurt in a stampede would constitute immediate culpability in the part of the parent/parents.

Sounds like a lot of fluff for an hour's drive. A flash drive is not worth the gas.

You have always given them credit before. Is there a way to tone the watermark down?

Doesn't Target do that?

We have all seen the videos. Some are hastily put together productions which show the absolute worst that Black Friday can bring out in a person. Others have used this time to show their comedic and often best talents when presenting their take on a time honored tradition. What are your favorite videos? Post them here. Here is one of my all time favorites. Enjoy....http://youtu.be/xqq8EBx-EmU
