They have been doing a fair amount of clearance over the last couple of months to get ready for Christmas and fall/winter merchandise. They always have a big push of clearance in January/February, then again in June/July. The rest of the time there seems to be less stuff on sale. That's always been my feeling on it, anyway. The Summer clearance stuff seems to sell off faster at higher prices, too, as people aren't overwhelmed with having spent so much on Christmas. Just MHO, but that is the way I have been looking at it, anyway.

I have never gotten to see the pools on clearance! I think it just simply gets too hot here so they never have any left. I don't even know when they would normally go on clearance! But a tip I figured out if you happen to miss them is that the drug stores generally have summer/pool stuff left after all the other stores are done with them. Just takes longer to clear them out there for some reason.

Are you sure they were doing markdowns? Did they have the little black printers that spew out the little red stickers? If they just had the PDT guns they may have been doing "research" which is their way of checking inventory levels and reordering. they put grey stickers on or near the shelf tag when they order something. As for the Sunday/Friday discrepancy, it might depend on what time of day you went on Friday and whether they had marked those items. It could also be that they missed the item and that it went down overnight - we had that discussion a few pages back about how things that get missed in the process get marked either automatically overnight or they scan all the codes on their sheets. I have asked directly, and at least one other person on here has as well, and they don't do weekend clearance markdowns.

no, they don't do regular markdowns on the weekends. Just holiday stuff sometimes. the markdown teams have weekends off.

humidifiers are good for anyone with breathing issues or dry air issues. dh has sleep apnea, so we need one. it is also good when you have a cold or allergies. the moisture helps the breathing process, I guess. Not sure, how, but I know it it true.

For those interested, the new Glendale Galleria Store in CA is lovely, but no clearance. Just thought I would check. As I assumed, they opened a few days before the Grand Opening. It is pretty spread out, though, with the 3 floors. Kinda crazy, really. But nice and sparkling clean right now. If you decide to go, be sure to park on the Colorado & Columbus side to be close.

I personally want some new Vtech Vsmile cartridges for the new system I just bought at 50%. Those puppies are expensive!!! I also want some of the Legos, and yes, we still have quite a few at some of my stores. I am also interested in some more Take Along Thomas toys, and yes, we have a lot of those, too. Although in this case probably because they didn't mark them all.

I seriously doubt it. It sounds like, from several others, and my own experience that they are consolidating a lot of the clearance stuff in a few aisles like they do at Christmas. I think it will be at least next week. I was hugely disappointed too because I had childcare options today. Next week, NOT! UGH!!!

The one thing they did mark down today in two of my stores is the Play Wonder toys. They almost all went to 50% off. Those are the ones that are the summer toys. Like that weird wooden bike, the teepee tent, ring toss and bowling games, etc. They marked most of the plastic summer toys as well, but many only went to 30%. A real bummer. On the other hand, I collect Littlest Pet Shop & Cars toys, and found new ones of both, so at least I got something for the runaround.

I seriously doubt it. When they opened the 2nd Pasadena store (Old Fedco) there wasn't anything. I went with a neighbor and we were very disappointed.

The markdown team doesn't work on the weekends, and toys don't get marked like holiday merchandise does, so the employee who said Sunday was spouting nonsense. From my experience, there are never any diapers left by the time they get to 50%. I am, thankfully, finally out of my diaper days (just down to overnights, Whoopee!!), but I used to try to wait them out, and I always lost. They do get to 30%, at least around here, but I have never seen them lower. Some areas may get there, but I wouldn't count on that. My recollection is also that they tend to go slower on the markdowns on the bulk items because people are willing to buy them with a lesser discount. That is why they start at 15% instead of 30%. Anyone else remember how the schedule usually goes? I think the next section there is Halloween, so they may not be in any hurry.

For everyone in the San Gabriel and Eastern San Fernando Valleys of Los Angeles, there is a NEW 3 story Target opening Sunday at the Glendale Galleria. It is in the spot where the old Robinson's May was. I overheard a manager telling another about "the new store" this morning, so I popped out of the aisle to ask about it. I am SO excited to get yet another new Target. Lousy location and parking, but nonetheless another place to look!

Ours excluded mostly food items and Tide. They pulled all the Tide to the regular aisles. The food excluded were the Goldfish, Granola Bars (though not the Caribou ones) and Beef Jerky.

it did include the diapers, and they were flying off the shelves. I think it included the other paper products too, because I remembered that I only need TP this time. Bought too much paper towel back with those $5 coupons a couple of months ago.

Regarding toys, I just ran back out to the closest store and one of the markdown team told me that they ARE marking toys tomorrow. However, she wasn't in a position when I asked to tell me whether or not it would be the 75% off or just a regular markdown. So, I guess I wait and see...

Nope, it isn't. Or at least it doesn't work all the time. I can say that with confidence because I know of several items that have not been marked down afterwards. Items that when taken to the markdown team a day or a few days later will show that it should have been done but wasn't. Could be that they are just missing some of them in an automatic system, but it is certainly the case that not everything gets done that way. I found Batman Legos just in the last month that should have been marked but weren't until I dragged them to a lady on the markdown team who scanned them for me and said that they should have been done a week or two earlier.

Same here! So bummed, but hoping for something tomorrow. Looking more like it will be next week, though. UGH! The waiting is killing me. We still have quite a bit in some stores, but others are dwindling. On the plus side, I did find another set of the the Magnetic Colorforms. If anyone is interested, they have them in Brown Bear Brown Bear and the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Similar to the Spiderman Ready Beds from earlier in the year, they ring up Item Not Found, but when they look them up with the PDT under Not On File, they come up at $2.46 as Target.com merchandise. It is a great price!

Oh, sure. But they don't seem to do it as they go along, so that is why I am guessing at what they do. I think they do it because they want any returns that might come in at the new price. Not really sure, though.

No toy markdowns, but the markdown team was in the bulk item section, marking everything 15% off.

That happened at most of our stores last week, so I am still crossing my fingers and hoping. I think only one of my local stores will do it today, so I am heading there at 9 after I drop off DS at his summer program. I'll hit my local store at 8 when they open - 20 minutes from now....

You have to wait for them to have at least marked down one of the kind of item you want. So, for example, if they have 5 Cranky the Cranes and have marked at least one, you don't have to wait for the sticker for the other 4. But, if they haven't marked at least one of the item, it will still show the old price. Most of the time, if they miss an item entirely they seem to do a general markdown of all the items that were supposed to go down that day. I am guessing that they use their guide sheet and just scan that. However, occasionally they will miss an item entirely and it will simply stay at the higher price. This sometimes gets people who hide items because their items don't get the markdown at all. I have found such items from time to time. I know the markdown people pretty well, so I will sometimes ask them to check it while they are in markdown mode. No one else can give the markdown, so it has to be one of them.

UGH!!!!! Not what I wanted to hear!!!!

Just depends on when the team gets to it. They have an order they have to go in, and they follow it. I have seen the markdowns happen before the store opens, as it opens, 10 am, and 2pm. I have seen them start the department and have to quit at 3 pm, with less than half done because they have to leave for the day, then they pick up first thing the next day. You just can't know for sure unless you know one of them well enough to ask as they are leaving the day before. Even then, sometimes they don't know....
