  1. I know the local WM didn't accept layaways on BF anyway...
  2. And why wouldn't they? Here remove items from your inventory and hold it for 1 customer who may or may not come back anytime soon. AND if it drops in price refund the difference. If they decide not to want it, you just turn around and refund it. And have you seen the layaway warehouse space? Bikes hanging from the ceiling and box after box of stuff some of which has been there for some time. Not to mention the boxes themselves - look on the side it's like $1.50 each or something. Layaway wasn't a sales tool. It was a convenience for the customer. Even if it affects sales in some slight way, it won't adversely affect profit which is what the company cares about not sales. You can sell millions of dollars per year, but if you aren't profitable you toast. There's a pretty good book - "The customer is usually wrong" or something like that. Read it if you get the chance. One of the things they point out is if you want to really make it dump the worst 10% of your customers. Those customers that take up a disproportionate amount of time or resources. Devote that time to your best 10% of you customers and your profit will increase.
  3. T2050 is a Core Duo not Core Solo. And while it is "just a name" it does tell you if it is single or dual core. Core Solo = single core. Core Duo = older dual core. Core 2 Duo = new dual core. The only Core Solo E1505 being offered from what I see is the low-end with the T1350 http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/entnb_e1505?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs My personal opinion ... for $100 I'd jump up to the Core 2 Duo T5500 model.
  4. 2007 beta works pretty well and it's free until sometime next year. http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/beta/getthebeta.mspx?showIntro=n
  5. It had a $3 red clearance sticker on it. But always look at the date (the larger ones show when they were printed), and check it at one of the price check scanners hanging on various poles around the store. A $45 laser level is tagged at our WM for $30, but the scanner is now showing them at $15...
  6. Got the details in front of me now... IT's a Halex Intruder 8 Player LCD Electronic Dartboard. UPC: 0 29807 64307 4 Link to eBay auction of item
  7. IT was at the local WalMart here... Originally $14.xx now $3. Since it's a clearance item and WM it's a big YMMV... It was in the sporting good section btw.
  8. Local WM is clearing them out as well...
  9. I thought I had read that they wouldn't even start looking until after the time period is up... 4/17?
  10. I just got my NOFOOL email finally... 10% off anything not on special already ( gee never seen that promotion from them before...) and a free Nylon 288 disc CD/DVD case case for being NOFOOL... You have to use the code they send in the email. But in doing so you'd be NOFOOL right?
  11. Just something for y'all to think about... MOST people have no reason to use anti-bacterial soaps, and probably don't want to! http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/vol7no3_supp/levy.htm
  12. Have you gotten any 'exclusive "I'm no Fool!" special offer'?
  13. Go here: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=geekthing&cm_mmc=geekmail-_-daily_html-_-31mar06_GEEKTHING-_-GEEKTHINGmain BTW it's not real... read the whole ad... Supposedly they'll send a 1 time special offer for being a good sport about the April fools joke. No I don't know what it is yet. But I signed up, but am about to leave and haven't gotten the good sport award email yet. I didn't want my fellow GD'ers to miss out though just in case it was something good. BTW, I would have bought that thing in a heartbeat if it were real!
  14. Mother Puss Bucket! Missed that... Oh well my dozen+ I've done so far don't count. That SUCKS! BTW -- Here: http://www.judysbook.com/promotions/barnesnoble/ is where you need to go to sign up for the promotion AFTER you sign up to write the reviews initially... Something else to note: And it appears to be a online GC... not in-store.
  15. It's not really "stacked" rebates as I see it... There 2 items both on sale with rebates that just happen to go together naturally. Not "stacked" as in multiple rebates (ala CompUSA) on the same item. MP3 player has $7 Instant rebate + $15 MIR ... I don't count "Instant Rebates" as rebates. Just another silly term for sale price. That one is a Newegg rebate - I'm pretty comfortable with that one. The other is from buy.com for the card and is a Kingston/Buy.com rebate for $6... again I'm pretty comfortable. The 5% discount is for using paypal and is a discount not a rebate. So we're really only talking 2 rebates and neither of them Compusa or TigerDirect thus I'm happy...
  16. I signed up... Thanks. I saw the info on the GC but now don't (minutes apart and it disappeared... hmm...) I was reading some of the other reviews for my little town, and I don't know where these people are but they aren't here. One talks about sitting at a table and drinking beer at the local cinema... hmm, I've never seen tables (and it's a favorite cinema for us), and I've never seen them serve beer. http://www.judysbook.com/members/labgeek/ If I would have known about the inviting friends thing I would have asked for someone to refer me...
  17. You used to be able to get a cell phone without even a SSN... I suspect you still can. You did have to put up a heck of a deposit though. Way back when... I worked for Radio Shack. Guy came in wanted a phone and didn't even want to supply his name. I called the cellular company, and they said "sure no problem... $1000 deposit". He left and was back 15 minutes later with $1000 in cash for the deposit, and the several hundred more for the phone. Considering the neighborhood, I did not want to know where it came from... We put it in as "Mr Cash".
  18. I saw something a while back analyzing the plans, etc. And the Tracfones were one of the cheapest ways to go for the occassional user -- to the point that if I wasn't locked into a contract at the time I would have thought about switching.
  19. Rosewill Silver/ Black SD/MMC MP3 Player Model R10MP3/ Memory not included - Retail $22.99 - $7 IR - $15 MIR = $0.99 + $4.99 shipping That has no memory so... Add Kingston Technology 1GB Secure Digital Card - SD/1GB (see this thread) for $25.95 - $6 MIR - $1.30 paypal discount = $18.65 AR So for $24.63 you can have a 1GB MP3 player... How's that for creative dealmaking?
  20. Still $15 for a pair of decent pants is pretty cheap... personally the "mineral red" would be the killer for me... that and I'd look like I was wearing high-waters with 39 inch inseam pants on. BTW, if you were really interested in them, check out the shipping options - I saw they had Priority Mail which shouldn't be distance affected (assuming continental US anyway).
  21. Are you kidding? $7 shipped for a $40 + shipping pair of pants is a killer?
  22. If you've ever bought from them before, check your email (and spam filters) for a 10% off "come back and buy more" code they send out fairly regularly. That would drop it another $6.50 for $8.50 AR...
  23. There are some other pretty nice deals looking around that site. I was able to use the Take 5 for $30 offer plus a free sub to Seed (never heard of it) and apply a $5 off coupon too. Which worked out pretty well. I was needing to renew my MaxPC sub, and needed to give my brother one too as a birthday present... Plus got 4 other magazines to boot. The MaxPC aren't the disc versions, but I really didn't care about that anyway - most of them are sitting unused in the pile.
