They wouldn't of lost any money on that toilet seat. The only way I see a company losing money is if someone posts a pricing error and hundreds of people take advantage of it. Just a bit surprised. I have piercings, and a tattoo, HOWEVER when I am at work I display a professional appearance. Some will find that extra piercings and tattoos, while even though very popular, are still frowned upon within some companies. I just thought that Target was one of them. Second of all... To all those who made negative comments...it not that I am trying to “scam” Target…. geesh!! Why don’t people drop that? Comsumer price are going up in general do to the economy, not ONE $15 difference. I sure hope none of you have ever questioned a price before. Ok I talked to corporate. I explained to the rep Betty, about my experience, she was appalled about what had happened to me and apologized profusely to me. She said that is NOT the way the employees are trained. She said she was filing a report about the cashier/manager (Sarah). She then transferred me to a specialist. Kay was also VERY apologetic. She was taken back by the way I was treated, and what was said to me, but agreed with the Sarah about the price issue. She said she will look into this and call me back, but since she was there yesterday she doubts she will be there today, but I will hear back. About 15 mins later the phone rings and it was Kay stating she called the store and spoke to a manager (Moe), and had them check into the price of the seat. Kay stated that the Moe said there was no tag there saying $4.99 at all, and there are not any seats for $4.99, it must have been a clearance tag. I was floored. :eek:I know what a clearance tags looks like and the yellow and white shelf tags are NOT clearance tags. I asked Kay if there are not ANY seats for $4.99, then how were they going to sell me the some plastic one for $4.99. She said she didn’t know she was in Memphis. So right there proves that Target was wrong with the placement of the tag and display:no:… otherwise WHY change something if it wasn’t wrong!!!! I told her fine if it was $19.99 fine, but at what responsibility does Target have to insure there merchandise is marked and displayed properly by their EMPLOYEES? At this point I don’t care about the stupid seat. I was upset about the way I was treated. Kay is putting through a formal complaint against Sarah, for the verbal comments she made towards me. After I talked to Kay, I called the store to see who the male manager was. The operator was very nice, she offered a whole bunch of info. I come to find out that, Sarah isn’t a big manager at all…. She is only the cashier/front end manager. Ellen is the store manager, and said she will be in tonight. The operator strongly suggested I talk to Ellen, because what Sarah said was totally inappropriate. I’m just tired of the whole damn thing. I guess I will just not give that store business anymore, if they don’t care about their customers. Its sad cause word of mouth travels fast around here. It was an error, the item was ringing up the correct price and it was your decision to buy it or not. Someone obviously put this toilet seat in the wrong place. Also, there have been plenty of times things have been in the wrong place on the shelves. I'm always at the toy dept or health & beauty dept. where items are always misplaced. In fact, Walmart raised it prices on the water I like and my store still has the old price listed on the shelf but it rings up the new higher price. I could probably get them to honor the old price but it's not worth the hassle. However, there was no reason for the employee to be rude to you. I've worked in retail and customer service and once a decision is made, it's done. You can argue with me but I just nod and ask what you want to do. However the item was physically bolted to the shelf by a Target employee, so it could not have been misplaced by a customer. It is just the carelessness of Target and their employees. Yes, it rang up more than what was expected, the customer brings the manager (front end) back to see, it is clearly marked on a store display as that and its also obvious, its the same seat as displayed. A Target employee made an error in placement of the tag, it happens and what should of been done, is a BIG sorry, I see what you are talking about but I am sorry, we can't honor that price. In reality, they should for this one person and change the display but this person was not going to do that. Being rude and obnoxious is not going to win you any brownie points but saying I am sorry, I do see what you are seeing but we can't honor that price (if that is the decision she is making as a manager LOL) and continuing on with the transaction is the appropriate action and one they are trained to do. We all see wrong tags at times, I even go scan or ask someone if that item is included in the sale or the right price. Heck, I even make errors in thinking the price is something and its not, it happens but to have someone stand there and tell you, your a liar and be absolutely rude about it, is very inappropriate and doesn't solve anything. I think talking with the store manager about your experience in a calm, straight forward manner is appropriate, if its happen to you, its happened to others and this needs to be addressed. Side note, I know our Walmart had Toilet seats for $5 (nice wood ones with white finish), I buy them all the time for rentals and replace ours about once a year. A picture would have come in handy to e-mail to corporate, not to mention that you could have used it when talking to the store manager. I might have to look into a cell phone like that. Now you run into one rude employee and you won't shop there any more? Over a single $10 pricing dispute? (Actually, it's more like $6, since you were OK with buying the same item at Meijer's for $11.) I am in no way defending the way you were treated, but if I never shopped at a place again after I ran into a rude employee, I would be driving 100 miles to shop, plus I would be spending more than I had to. I would have long ago run out of nearby stores. Just trying to offer some perspective. You seem very upset over this, probably more than it's really worth. However, companies ARE allowed to have a dress code which can include: Only allowing an employee to wear one set of earrings, tattoos covered up ect... Once again, I personally dont have a problem with it. I just know from experience that employers Can and Will require a dress code that an employee must abide by. If someone goes in to apply for a job all pierced up and the employee does not hire them based on that, then that is discrimination. If an employee gets the job and does not abide by the complanies dress code, then that is their problem for applying for a job that requires a certain dress code, not the companys problem. That was the point I was trying to make.I was just gonna post that, if you want to work for a company like Disney you have to conform to very high dress and conduct codes. I really do hope that you DO call the manager back. I am a firm believer that people get away with being so rude because no one ever calls them on it. The store manager should know the way that you were treated...doesn't matter what the problem was in the first place. I have worked in retail since I was 15 years old (both as a cashier, in my earlier days and as a store owner) and I have NEVER... NEVER treated anyone with any disrespect. And trust me there are PLENTY of times that I could have and PLENTY of times that I have wanted to. As far as the piercings go I really can't say anything....my hair right now is green! So now for the fun part…shopping for new décor. My youngest and I hit up Target first. I love finding deals there and I ALWAYS have a great experience, well that is until today! While I was shopping for accessories, I decided to change out for another toilet seat. They have hung displays and the shelf tag and extra seats are behind the hung display. So I found one I like. The display was a plain white seat, metal hinge (not brushes nickel either) no details, no scallops, nothing. The display was hung and under it, the shelf tags said basic white seat, $4.99 (there were about 4 left on the shelf and where all the same). I was huh, nice price, considering I bought the previous seat (EXACT SAME ONE) at Meijers for $10.99 a few years ago. Any ways, I looked the others and the tags matched up with the other seats….wood tag under/ wood display….dolphin tag /under dolphin display…..brushed nickel/under brushed nickel ….. soft tag /under soft display… see the pattern here…LOL so I was on my marry way with my $4.99 deal:yup:. I get to the register and the cashier was nice I had over a $100 bucks of decorations….. oh yeah and some Valentines clearance...LOL She scans the seat and it comes up $19.99:(.. I was huh? I had her check it. I told her the DISPLAY was the hung there and the tag said $4.99. She walkie talkied some associate to check it out, and bring up the one that is $4.99. The employee brings up this cheap piece of crap, that WASN’T even on display:yuck:!! I said OH NO… that was not the one on display. The cashier got very rude at that point. Her words were “well I am NOT giving this one to you at $4.99, because people move things around.” Ok, I used to be a retail supervisor, so I know customers switch things around, and I can understand if it was in the wrong place, but the display was HUNG there and the tag for it said $4.99… It was NOT this cheap one that was hung there with the $4.99 price tag either. She said I don’t care I and NOT letting you have it for $4.99, I asked her can I speak to a manger , she said I AM the manager, I said then can I show you what I am talking about, she got all huffy and said fine. She stomped back there, my little one had to run just to keep up. We got the displays and I showed her, the one I bought was the SAME one on display and it was clearly marked $4.99, Her comment was “It was not the right tag, and I should learn to read”. I was SHOCKED:eek: I had never been spoken to like that before. I kept my cool:gdlicklips:.. I showed her how the OTHER tags were corresponding with the displays. I said I understand customers move things, but HER employees hung the displays, and HER employees placed the tags, so I customer couldn’t mess with that, and if her employees made a mistake it’s not the customers fault. She claimed the tags were for another product, I said ok where? cause now the other seats that WERE there mysteriously disappeared. She said I don’t know. I then showed her how the other tags matched the displays. She said she didn’t care, and that I was not getting it for that price. If I had any problems with their displays I can call corporate. I said ok. On the way back up to the front she had the audacity to ask me if I wanted the $19.99 one... I said NO, I can get that one for $10.99 why would I pay $19.99. I just paid the bill, and left. I did stop at the service desk for the number I will call it tomorrow I had work tonight and didn’t have a chance. The thing that gets me is how rude she was. As a manager, she had VERY poor service skills. Another thing, not that is mattered, but stands out now, she had WAY too many piercings. I have nothing against it, but for a manager it was a bit excessive. She had her eyebrow, above her lip (like a beauty mark), nose, some bar through the front to the back of her cartilage on the top of her ear, about 4 up the ear on each side, and HUGE hanging earrings . I thought when working retail, you could have ear and all others had to be covered. Now when I reflect I wonder if she even was a manger...LOL Anyways I’m calling tomorrow. I think it was very poor customer service. The funny thing is this Target is located BETWEEN Wal-Mart and Meijers, so I don’t need to shop at this one ever again. OK OK OK I understand it is only a measly $15 difference, but now it’s principle:gdparanoid:….do not misleads your customers, and then when the customer calls you on it, you disrespect them and insult them. NO WAY!!! I was so temped to return all the items just for spite, but the candy was yummy;)...LOL GGRR….. thanks for letting me vent!! :fluffy:Needless to say I was bummed after that, and just came home, I will go out tomorrow, my day off.!! Things like this and the super-crappy return policy (not to mention employees) are why I stopped giving target my money (not that I liked "preppy punk" anyway) about a year or so ago, and never go back except maybe a super-rare BF item. I have to be honest in stating that sometimes when a price looks TOO GOOD, I always recheck it on the price scanner. It avoids frustration. I don't want to argue unless I have an honest to goodness legitimate reason for doing so. You said that you saw the price on the yellow tag and I believe you, so it is ridiculously unfair that they went and changed it and therefore made it look like you lied and/or you were trying to scam them. I may possibly shop there again only if the main manager apologized to me about the issue and stated that he would speak with the cashier about the issue. I have ran across rude employees before, I think that it just depends on the level of rudeness. I do think that they should have given her the seat for the stated price as well. It was Target's mistake that the seat was showing the wrong price. How many other items does target clearance for 75% off? (not that this was a clearance item, or she was asking for a clearance price, its the principal that target does mark down prices on many of their items, target will not go out of business for giving her a $15 discount on just one particular item) There are a couple of places that I will not shop at because I feel that I was not treated nicely. She pleaded with me not to take our business elsewhere. She assured me that I would never get treated like that again. Sarah will be talked to, and discipline action will be considered. We ended the conversation on a good note.:) So after all that I do feel better…..Thank you for all of those who supported me:D and let me rant!! I think you got what you wanted and will be happy to shop there again. That is what a good manager does, keeps all customers. Don't fret over the bad posts on here. It's easy to bash others when you don't have to look them in the eye while doing so. Hey, isn't that what I'm doing right now. I had a Target manager speak to me in a similar fashion in front of my DD6 as well, and was just as upset...spoke to the store manager about the situation while I was there and the Store manager gave me the questioned item (which yes, was mismarked in a similar fashion) for even less than the questioned value along with a huge apology and promise to repremand the supervisor This was exactly what should have happened in your situation!!! They made the mistake, you called them on it (I think a million of us Target Perusers have done this and gotten the deal that way), they give it to you for the price and then change the sign immediatly afterwards! There is no reason (in retail or otherwise) to speak to anyone the way this woman spoke to you! It totally devalues you as a person, and YES it can make you want to never revisit a store you may have had a great time at previously...not because of a missed toilet seat deal (or a blow up sleeping bed as was my case) but because of not wanting to come to a place where someone attacked you like happened to the OP. Please keep us posted if you persue the issue further, but otherwise know you have our support in general (even if some are being not so nice on here...) PS-I read someone above mention Disney...I worked there for a few years, wasn't allowed to wear ANY make-up, nailpolish, jewelry, only allowed stud earrings (one set), no visible tattoos, only an engagement/wedding ring if applicable, no crazy hair (color or style). You know what? I was fine with that and feel more companies should enforce dress codes, it just makes a nicer environment if you look professional while working (JMO). I shop there about 2x's/week and each time, I run into pricing errors. I also worked in retail for years and I know to read shelf tags and compare UPC's or sku's on the tag to the shelf etc... Target just doesn't seem to be keeping up with the changes fast enough. About a month ago, they must have raised the price of Halls cough drops from .97 to $1.48. When they rang up for the higher price a month ago, the cashier changed the price, no problem. I mentioned it in the e-mail I sent and even pointed it out to an ee in that dept. I was there on Sunday and the shelf tag is STILL wrong. I think you were absolutely correct in trying to dispute the price. The displayed price was misleading and that's that. I have had to argue with Sears and Kohls' both about rebate stuff and it would be enough to make the average person not go back but I know where the good deals are so I will continue to shop and have to argue when they make a pricing mistake. I think you should go back, one bad cashier does not make a store bad, and they usually do treat their customers fairly. All the managers are different that work there thou, yesterday I bought a decorative frame without any packaging, and the manager only gave me 10% off, a few weeks ago, I bought this soccer training thing and the box was beat up, but the box was still there, and the manager gave me 30% off.
