siageah Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 And do you make it? I used to, but it is awfully expensive to make. And I LOVE it! Especially the ones I would make, everything soaked in booze, then wrapped in booze and aged...what is not to like? Mine hardly had any batter, just enough to hold it all together.
krissy904 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I don't really like to eat it but I do make several each year. I don't use anything grose like fruit peels or yucky wierd fruit, just cherries and pineapples and lots of nuts. Oh and absolutely nothing green. If anyone wants a recipe just pm me, it's actually very easy to make, the hardest part is preparing the candied fruit since it is very sticky.
elena_398 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I voted no opinion as I never had it. Doesn't look appealing and its the brunt of christmas jokes (to get one) so I never had the urge to try it. lol
EmConMom Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I have never tried it and honestly I don't intend to, it just looks gross.
i.feature Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Love it. Yum. One of the best parts of christmas. Especially with a nice topping of marzipan.
ccarson1972 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Since I have never tried it either I also put no opinion too.
Firemansgal311 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I don't think I have ever ate any either. I saw a man making what looked like a fruitcake base the other day and soaked it in Jack Daniels. I bet ppl that "don't" like fruitcake would eat it.
glitterstarr Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I can't stand it and won't buy it or make it!
Tracy72 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I have never had it but my dad absolutley loves them.
shopping mom Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I love it if my mom makes it, most others I would not eat. I may try to make one this year.
dealluvr Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 me and my sister made some one year. a friend of mine was moving and he wanted me to clean his apartment.he paid good money so i said sure.the refrigerator had a lot of dried fruit containers in it.i dont know if he ate the dried fruit or made something with it but he had a lot of it.so we decided to put it to good use and make fruitcakes.after making ,baking, and storing about a week later we had to unwrap them from the cheesecloth and outer wrap and pour more rum or whatever we were using on them.then wrap them up again.they sat like that for about 2 months.they were pretty good as i dont really care for fruitcake but knowing we made them i had to taste it.in my younger days i used to hate it but as i have gotten older i kind of like itt now.just a small slice to pick at.if youre craving sugar you need juast a small slice to pick at and it does give you a boost
cleverbffool Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I said no opinion cause I really like the ones that my mom and g-mom make but any others I think are disgusting.
Cecilliadb Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I like it, but not when it's very cakey. I like it when it's hard and chewy heh. My Mom and I are going to be making it this year.
laffnatu Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I don't like fruitcake. But there is a store called Southern Supreme in our area that sells fruitcake and it's really good. This is the only kind I will eat. http://www.southernsupreme.com/
sissykus Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 everyone shoud at least try it once:yuck: it is really chewy and not very good
Marcster Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I voted no opinion as I never had it. Doesn't look appealing and its the brunt of christmas jokes (to get one) so I never had the urge to try it. lolhttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Yes/shesaidpurp.gif
Kandy Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I do not like traditional fruit cake. Yuckie I would use it as a doorstop.... I however like what is called Ice box fruit cake. Its nilla wafers, eagle brand milk , nuts and raisins. you just mix them together and you mold into a log and keep it in the fridge then cut it in slices.
