  1. It's usually about 5-15% depending on the item. At resellers you'll likely get a bundle. For example free itunes card, cheap printer etc. As mentioned the student discount can be had year round, as well as there being good deals in the online refurb store.
  2. Very underwhelming. I wasn't expecting much, but not a single thing even to get mildly excited about. Regular sale prices.
  3. Ya that's the area we hit too. The exchange rate is great for us. Today it's $1.00US = $0.98CAD, Just a few days back it was $1=$1. So we're literally talking pennies here. Plus the tax rate is less on consumer goods down there than it is here.
  4. We're over for a few days. So have a $400 per person exemption. Beyond that you can pay duty and taxes on what you bring back, however, we've gone over many times and declared such and have not had to pay either. What are your personal exemption amounts? 24 Hour Exemption - $50 CAN If you are absent from Canada for more than 24 hours, you may claim up to $50 CAN worth of goods duty free as your personal exemption. If the goods you bring in are worth more than $50 CAN in total, you cannot claim this exemption. Instead, you will have to pay full duties on all goods you bring in. All goods must be with you when you arrive and you can not include tobacco or alcoholic in this exemption. 48 Hour Exemption - $400 CAN If you are absent from Canada for more than 48 hours, you may claim up to $400 CAN worth of goods duty free, and must have the goods with you when you arrive at the border. You may include some tobacco and alcohol products in this exemption, and should review the section below called "Alcohol and Tobacco" for more details. 7 Day Exemption - $750 CAN If you are absent from Canada for more than 7 days, you may claim up to $750 CAN worth of goods duty free. You may include some tobacco and alcohol products in this exemption, and should review the section below called "Alcohol and Tobacco" for more details. With the exception of tobacco and alcohol products, you do not need to have the goods with you when you arrive at the border. To calculate the number of days you have been absent, do not include the date you left Canada but include the date you returned. Dates matter, not times. For example, we consider you to have been absent seven days if you left Friday the 7th and returned Friday the 14th. What are Duties? The term "duties" includes excise taxes and GST/HST. It does not include provincial or territorial sales tax. However, the CBSA has working agreements with some provinces and territories that allows them to collect provincial and territorial taxes, levies and fees on goods that have a value higher than your personal exemption.
  5. Thought it was about time to start my annual Canadians on Black Friday Thread. Who's going down? Where are you going? What are you excited for and don't you love our dollar near parity? This is my 10th BF and 6th in the Albany area. I don't have any real needs this year so just waiting to see what the ads bring.
  6. Same sales - not really. We get boxing day the day after xmas. Thats the closest thing we have to BF. Stores not the same - yes and no. We do have many of the same stores, but there are quite a few we don't have. Plus the selection can be very different. Products that cost a lot here can be significantly lower down there. Occassionally it can go the other way too, where a product is cheaper here than there. But that doesn't happen as much.
  7. Getting closer boys and girls... dollar's at .95... not too bad... ads are mostly all out... where's everyone going?
  8. Where are you hearing this? Unless it's like the Kmart POS, i don't see less than 150$
  9. Just a little bump back up to the first page. Any others heading down?
  10. Brad where should i send you the .pdf file so people can access that?
  11. I've seen these everywhere for under 10$. We bought 2 at 5.99. I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw that price.
  12. Sears tends to have better tire sales from their online store. You can order there and pick-up in store. I just got some winter's last week and they were cheaper than any of the BF sales.
  13. Careful you don't get jersey'd for your doorbuster
  14. Ya, i tend to shy away from where the majority of Canadian shoppers go. We(Canadians) can be a ruthless bunch when on shopping holidays.
  15. You can get it faster than that if you pay a little more to expedite the process. I did that a bunch of years back.
  16. Up here in Canada most grocery stores started doing this a few years back. Then last year instead of crediting you 5c for every resuable bag you brought in they've begun charging you 5c for every plastic bag you "buy". I'm sure once it goes mainstreme enough the same will happen there.
  17. Looks like the stores are doing a better job with keeping there info quiet this year. With design, proofs and printing lead times we should start seeing ads by the end of this week.
  18. I'd guess there'll be one that breaks the 100$ barrier. But, in all honesty, it really would be worth spending a bit more. This 100$ net book would probably be stripped down and not be very usable for anything other then websurfing and even then probably would choke on some sites.
  19. For bargain hunters, it's beginning to look a lot like Black Friday http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/columnists.nsf/savvyconsumer/story/BBC0CCEAFD8148A78625764B0000CC7F?OpenDocument

  21. Toys 'R' Us may open its stores on Thanksgiving: http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/2584811/
  22. I like variety so for me it's usually the department type stores: Target, Walmart, Sears. But really, at this point i'm ready for anything.
  23. So basically they don't really have a clue till the snow starts falling, or in some cases there's a foot already on the ground
  24. Nice. We've considered heading down that way for a couple years now... but for whatever reason we haven't made it.
  25. Never been out that way. What a re the crowds/stores like. i've been to a few locations. Much prefer the albany area to the buffalo area.
