DaleRider
So, as most know now, WalMart has their BF ad up on their website....put yur zip in and you can preview. Seems the laptop, desktop, LCD TV, among other things, have two prices....$488 and $378 for the laptops, $488 and $398 for the desktops, and $194 and $178 for the 15" LCD TV, and $129 and $98 for the 20" TV/DVD combo. Guess it all depends upon where your local WalMart is located. Live in a small town with no BB, CC, etc. competition? You're paying the higher prices. Live near a WalMart that has some competition? Then the price is lower. Sucks!!! I used 30458 and 30904 as comparison zip codes.....the 30458 is Statesboro, GA with the higher prices; the 30904 zip is Augusta, GA with much lower prices. IOwnCalculus
This is surprising and "bad" how? It's capitalism. This kind of thing has been going on for ages.
shirleyb
It's probably always been this way, at WM and other stores, but easier to see now because of the internet.
peavs2000
I don't know if it's capitalism at its finest. I thinking maybe greed, class warfare or corporate image. In my area, (small town in the boonies) the price is $488. I have to drive 50 - 70 miles to get the low price. If I'm going to have to do that, I might as well go to BB or CC. I could see slightly different prices but $110 is pretty big. Seems that the low price is in the bigger cities, where there are lots of people (and competition) where the low price would help Wal Marts image the most. For my area, there no other competition so Wal Mart jacks up the price, the people have nowhere else to shop. Looks like this is a halfhearted attempt to have a better BF than last year and Wal Mart probably will succeed. They better not be crying the blues by Saturday like they did last year because they didn't sell as much as they thought they would. If the price was the same everywhere, I think they would sell out of everything. What happened to "Always the low price, Always"?
daz
LOL I get both ads! put in zip 68666 and click York nebraska store 3 ads come up "friday only specials" which has the higher prices "more electronics specials, Only in stores friday nov.25" which has all the lower prices CHECK YOUR WALMART ZIP CODES! the ad I get that says 5-11 am is ALL the lower prices. The ad that has the higher prices says Nov 21 -Nov 25. Which means, after 11 am the laptop goes up if there are any left. BTW there is NO competition within 65 miles of york in ANY direction. So there are other factors involved.
best4less
"Always the low price, Always" Not LOWEST. Correct me in I'm wrong but $488, $398 or $378 are all low prices for a laptop.
zgamer
Try $632 for the laptop in my area.....hahaha noone will pay that here when the toshiba's are half-price.
mugs
You say "what next" as if this hasn't been going on for years at every store. The point of a loss leader is to get people into the store. If there's a lot of other stores in the area, they need to be more competetive to get you to pick Walmart as your first stop on Black Friday. If there aren't a lot of other stores in the area, then $488 laptops will do the job - so why price it at $398 if they don't need to to get the job done? That'd be like pissing money down the toilet. I doubt any one of us would do it any differently. I understand people are disappointed if the cheap computers will not be available in thier areas... but Wal-Mart isn't really doing anything wrong. A lot of the items are higher price then they are in my area. I'll admit $632 is a little ridiculous.
bigmochick
Okay, I'm confused. The Nov. 21 - 25 ad says that the laptop and desktop are $488. Then the one in the middle, the 5-11 that says "no rebates, no hassles" has the laptop at $378 and no desktop at all. My zip code is 64628 if anyone cares to verify. favdog
This is screwed up. 3 WM's in my area(within 40 mins of each other) all have different sales. I was disappointed about no plasma in the paper ad i got, checked online and sure enuff another WM in my area has it. The prices on Laptop varies by $100 sad thing is most ppl won't know it. ReillyCheyenne
I checked the WMs in my are and I had like 6 w/in 50 miles of me (30132) I checked the 2 I might go to and they had the laptops on sale for $378 and the camera that I want on sale for $88 not $98.88. They are also limiting the laptops in my area to 1 per customer.
NeepNeep
Heh. I have 2 local Wal-Marts in my area (Lake County, FL) that are 15 miles apart. One has the higher prices, the other the lower prices. This is gonna be a fiasco...
Marcster
When my wife and I were dating, we both lived at home, about 50 minutes apart. We noticed over a couple of phone calls, that our circulars for Best Buy had slightly different prices (5-10%) on certain items.
saturnboy01
"Always the low price, Always" Not LOWEST. Correct me in I'm wrong but $488, $398 or $378 are all low prices for a laptop. Dalerider is trying to find the cheapest price because he and a flock of slugs go out and buy a whole bunch of the BF stuff and then resell it for a higer price on ebay or whatever that is why he is complaining cause now he will have to raise his "resell" prices or not make as much. missyjane
2 Walmarts within 10 miles of me have the Laptop for $488. 2 Walmarts that require atleast a 40 minute drive have the price for $378. I get the major big city newspaper I wonder which ad will be in it?

zgamer
For fun, check a walmart on the IL/WI border on the WI side it's $632 but if you drive about 20 minutes south into IL the price drops to $378.
mcmahonfan
here in Wisconsin the reason the price is higher has nothing to do with smaller town not as much competition none of that. It is plain and simple that in some states stores are not allowed to sell below COST!!! In other words what you would pay for it on Friday you will pay for it on any day thereafter is the price is $632 on the laptop. Wal_Mart doesn't make the laws peeps they just have to follow them. I think if it were Wal-Marts choice they would be $398 in all the wal-mart stores.

I get the major big city newspaper I wonder which ad will be in it?You know.. I hadn't thought about that. The online ads at the site said that my "local" Walmart (which is in Paintsville, KY) will have the computers for $488 .. Which I expected because we don't have a BB or CC or anything like that to compete with Walmart around here. However, the Ashland Walmart (Which is a little ways to the north) had the $378/$398 prices. Most people in my area will get the Ashland newspaper, with the Ashland Walmart's ad, then take it to the Paintsville Walmart (because it is closer) and be mighty dissapointed. I'm curious how walmart will handle that.
imjustagirl
Bummer! I looked up mine and we have the lower prices. I looked up the small town where the inlaws live. happyrat
I had not realized Walmart has a 5mp Hp camera for $88. I guess if you want to see if any of your BF sales are a good deal, just pull up the ads in WI. If its cheaper in your area than WI then you are getting it below cost so its a good deal. happyrat
I don't think competition has anything to do with the prices. I pulled up Guthrie, Ok. They only have a regular non supercenter Walmart, no Target, Kmart, anything for 40 miles and they have the lower prices.
