Buckeye Shopper Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I was just telling dh today that shopping on bf was not going to be as much fun this year, or Christmas shopping in general. My son is 13 and my daughter is turning 11. Electronics, clothes, and shoes...
smorebore Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 This was my Christmas last year....very depressing.....
mgmckny Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Been that way for a couple of years now...
Elmck Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I am fortunate that when my oldest ones were growing up and my youngest at the time was turning 12 that we had a surprise blessing!! ( my youngest DD who is now 9) She is still into the toys but now I have the 3 grandbabies and 2 more on the way to shop for too.
mom2monkiesx3 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I have been in that boat too...what helps me is taking some youngsters off our giving tree. If you able to do that it helps
tokanm Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 The worse thing is that there big kid/teen gifts tend to cost big $$$$ DS1 has gift cards in his wallet from 5 years ago. He NEVER uses them, he says he "forgets"
HansieDZ Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I have been in that boat too...what helps me is taking some youngsters off our giving tree. If you able to do that it helps Awesome idea!
racerfan Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 That has been my shopping list for a few years...
starbeck96 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 There are very few toys on our list this year. My daughter will be 6 by then, but she is really wanting a tablet so we are getting her a Nabi2. That will take a huge chunk of our budgeted amount. I have 2 toys on layaway for her and I bought several used DVD's at like 1.00 each. But that will probably be it as far as toys. My boys are 14 so have been out of the toy stage for quite a while...We are hoping that we can get a basketball goal for all three of the kids though.
lishy75 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Same here. DD is 12 and hasn't touched a toy in 7-8 months. Getting her an iPad, clothes and no idea what else. We do Toys for Tots to make up for toy shopping.
arci122 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Mine are teen/tween...they still want nerf items for their nerf wars so I still feel a little happy inside....in our house, don't believe in Santa, don't get presents....at least that magic is still alive.
jesusluvu Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I was thinking about this yesterday at a football game. My kids are getting bigger so what fun will there be in a few years I have a new Daughter so I will be able to buy for her but it will not be the same. Hopefully there will be atleast 2 toys they would want each, Even if it is a hard to find item - so that I can go out looking all over town and in the next 2 states and find it:yup:. That might be crazy but to me worth while and fun.
angelbabymommy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 This will be me with my oldest soon. Dd10 is still into "toys" so I'm happy about that and then I have dd4 to shop for. So, it's still fun for me ...I know how you must feel tho. It's so exciting to shop for the smaller ones.
mrsjackrabbit Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 i have ds11 and dd9. last time ds asked for a toy was approx 3 yrs ago, and that was for a lego kit, which i didnt really classify as a "toy". now my dd still asks for a barbie, moxie girl or monster high doll at random. but this year on their lists is ipod touch, clothes, shoes/boots, and not much of anything else. well dd asked for a play dough dentist set....another random item for her.
Buckeye Shopper Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 My dd is easy, she asks for everything lol. My son is the tough one, but it's always been that way. I still have a great niece to buy for so I have a few toys to buy. I just saddens me that my kids have gotten to the age where thy both no longer want toys. My daughter did see the bouncy dog and she like it.
KBsDarling Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 yep we are phased out as well...welcome to electronics....used to be for 200$ the tree looked PACKED now 200 is a down payment on 2-3 items LOL Somehow $3 board games $5 barbies/dolls just fills the tree up faster then an itty bitty tablet box

I try to get at least a few DVDs or games for the kids so at least they have a few extra things under the tree..
chaddix Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 It is sad and harder to shop through out the year.....used to be able to buy on clearence and convince them that's what they wanted Santa to bring:(
Spotted1 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I was afraid this phase was creeping up on me soon, but -surprise!- .. Not only do I get to buy toys for Christmas still, but I get to buy diapers for the first time in several years, too.
momof3luvs1 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 My two younger ones are still toy age but my oldest daughter is out of the toy phase. She only wants clothes, makeup, art supplies, and room decor since she wants to change her room to a Paris theme. Its hard to believe that she is out of that stage =(
HansieDZ Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 i was afraid this phase was creeping up on me soon, but -surprise!- .. Not only do i get to buy toys for christmas still, but i get to buy diapers for the first time in several years, too. congrats!

abentley Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 My boys are too old as well! Thankfully we are lucky enough to have a granddaughter! That and shopping for "angel tree" brings the joy right back into shopping!
theboyzmom Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Sigh...last year was my first year of no toys...it's sad I've got 3 boys who each want an i-touch...that's pretty much gonna be their entire Christmas...one tiny box...
cinder Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I was afraid this phase was creeping up on me soon, but -surprise!- .. Not only do I get to buy toys for Christmas still, but I get to buy diapers for the first time in several years, too. Congratulations!
billcsho Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Same here. I have not shopped for toys on BF for 2-3 years already. It used to be the major thing for BF shopping. Since then, I have been focusing on tech items. My kids still want Christmas gifts but just not toys anymore.
fluffkin79 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I have 2 that still want toys and DD9 who thinks she wants toys, but never plays with them. Even though the things she would really like are pricier, she's not mature enough to think "Sure, bro got 6 packs of Transformers, but look at my cool new video camera!" Somehow, I doubt the TwinkleToes she's been asking for will be equal to her sister's LPS radio control car in her mind (even though the shoes are 6x the price of the toy car). Of my 3, the oldest is far more likely to be upset if she thinks she got 'less' than the others. She's not neccessarily greedy, it makes her feel less important. This will be the first year of few toys for DD9, so I feel like I need to plan carefully so everyone feels like they have a good Christmas.

She has also asked for a basketball goal and ball. Considering she is already over 5 feet tall I want to get her one.
