bigjimslade
NOAA which runs the National Weather Service issued their winter weather outlook today. Below is a link to that report and may give us a idea on BF. http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2009/20091015_winteroutlook.html Edited November 17, 2009 by bigjimslade changed title
i.feature
So basically they don't really have a clue till the snow starts falling, or in some cases there's a foot already on the ground
AuntieJul
So basically they don't really have a clue till the snow starts falling, or in some cases there's a foot already on the ground For real! My area has equal chances of being colder or warmer, drier or wetter than average. Which I guess is why it's called an average. Still, we're due for flurries in the next 24 hours or so... stacyk9
Aww, poopsicles. Drier and average temps. I guess I should be happy. We've had horrible ice storms the past two years. Hopefully we'll have at least one good snow!
wx4svr
Guys... don't take NOAA for much. They are the ONLY ones forecasting a drier and average temperate winter. Most sources are saying cold and snowy for the winter. One of the best sites that I have found is http://snowday.community.officelive.com/default.aspx
wx4svr
Here are some graphics from Snow Day... they were about the best last year... this is for this year. http://aquate.us/u/2nd_b_t.bmp http://aquate.us/u/new_pre.bmp http://aquate.us/u/ice_map.bmp http://aquate.us/u/WINTER_.bmp

Talama
OMG ANY chance of lower temperatures would be GREAT here in Miami! We're having our first "cold" snap (high of 70, low 58) today and tomorrow, then back to the 80s. It's been in the 90s up until now so far in October! That's nuts even for us. I would really enjoy wearing my sweaters a few extra times this season, so I will be hoping NOAA is right!
slinkster65
Yay, just what we need in Gerogia, above average precip!! Didn't we just have major flooding in the metro? Oh well, maybe a couple extra days of classes off b/c of ice and/or snow!

pampam
The NOAA forecasts for this part of Georgia were consistently wrong last winter. Even the Weather Channel website was more up-to-date and accurate. Then I found AccuWeather.com and rarely check NOAA or TWC now. Some of the folks who post in the site's forum are better at forecasting winter precipitation than professional meteorologists and I've learned a lot from reading their explanations. It's been quite awhile since we had a major snow or ice storm. Snow for Christmas would be fantastic!
AuntieJul
*sighs* it's a sad day when my hometown gets flurries before my current home in Alaska does...Fortunately for us we've been snow-free for the season so far, despite many forecasts... Central PA and the Catskills have not been so lucky...
