  1. I have one of these. It's just a fleece throw with a front zipper and snap closures. The Kohl's website says, "Sleeves let you move your arms with ease." Wrong. The "sleeves" are formed by the corners of the blanket being pulled over the shoulders and snapped just above the zipper. This design limits movement... I can move my arms only about a foot in any direction. This is a soft, warm throw but I found it to be too much of a hassle to use as intended.
  2. Thank you! Just placed my order and there was still a fairly good selection left. The codes both worked and checkout was quick- nothing like the nightmare of Black Friday.
  3. I was wondering the same thing after seeing that their Black Friday banner was still up so I checked the buy.com website. They're located in California. Guess it will be 3 AM for those of us on the east coast?
  4. I give up! I'm not going to try anymore and will not do any Christmas shopping at Kohls. There's still a month left to find bargains elsewhere.
  5. Unbelievable. I wonder how much money they're losing from this stupidity.
  6. The base I bought has a short electric cord with a single plug-in for lights and it's positioned to turn with the tree. I've wondered how many people have used a wall plug for their lights without thinking and what happened.
  7. I have a 7' sparkly silver tree with a color wheel. Two years ago I decided I wanted it to spin but rotating tree stands were hard to find and expensive. Finally found one at boscovs.com. They have it again this year for $41.99 at http://tinyurl.com/ye8rxn3.
  8. Smile-worthy mention of GottaDeal in Yahoo's Buzz Log: "It's OK, your secret's safe with us. And believe us, lots of people are searching the Web for deals galore. Lookups on specialized sites that track store specials, like ****.info have soared 600%. ****.net searches are up 500%. And searches on GotaDeal.com, have spiked an amazing 2,000% in the last week." http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93175?fp=1 Edited to add: I just noticed they misspelled GottaDeal. "Gotadeal" is definitely not a BF site.
  9. Look out... within the past hour it became the lead article on my Yahoo home page.
  10. A couple of weeks ago I read that private clinics can charge a service fee. $20 isn't too bad but free is definitely better.
  11. A couple of decades, at least. I was one of the few people who would arrive at the local mall just before the doors opened. 7:00 AM was the absolute earliest opening time- usually at Penneys and Sears only- and there would be maybe a dozen people waiting to get in. No traffic, no hunting for a parking place, no immediate sell-out of popular items. Things have certainly changed! Now I do all my shopping on line.
  12. The NOAA forecasts for this part of Georgia were consistently wrong last winter. Even the Weather Channel website was more up-to-date and accurate. Then I found AccuWeather.com and rarely check NOAA or TWC now. Some of the folks who post in the site's forum are better at forecasting winter precipitation than professional meteorologists and I've learned a lot from reading their explanations. It's been quite awhile since we had a major snow or ice storm. Snow for Christmas would be fantastic!
  13. You're welcome. :) I browsed BookCloseouts for hours today to put together my first order, used Amazon for more info on some of the books and can't believe the savings. Thanks for posting this!
  14. Kimmie, the free books are found at http://www.bookcloseouts.com/default.asp?N=3418&promo=Dollar+For+Dollar+Sale.
  15. Thank you! Incredible deal. Years ago I collected dolls but haven't bought any for several decades. Madame Alexander dolls for $15 was just too tempting so I ordered four.
  16. I forgot to buy a bottle of wine for a friend who isn't really a friend anymore. We probably won't exchange gifts this year but I decided it was best to be prepared. Went to the grocery store this afternoon for the wine and hit the pre-Christmas markdown jackpot. Poinsettias were $1. The manager of the fresh meat department was busily placing red sales stickers on almost all the beef and pork. It was hard to resist buying a ton of meat but my refrigerator/freezer is full so I only bought a rib eye steak.
  17. While looking on line for a particular kind of lights I ran across a company in Alpharetta called Christmas Lights Etc. Just looked at their website and they have a controller for $59.95. Not sure if it's what you're looking for but it can be seen at http://tinyurl.com/6zx5vv One problem...it's temporarily of stock. Maybe knowing that the name of the manufacturer is Barcana will help in your search. Good luck!

  19. I just read several articles related to this story. Wal-Mart is opening their Christmas departments within the next 10 days because a survey determined that people will be starting their shopping earlier this year. I'm not sure how well that will actually work but if they decide to play Christmas music this early I'll turn around and walk out.
  20. Early last Black Friday morning I was sitting across from the mall watching the parking lot as it filled. However, instead of shopping I was at the emergency vet clinic where my entire Christmas budget went towards trying to save my precious 20-year-old kitty. It's now a terrible, sad memory... my sweet old girl didn't make it and I was broke. So, yeah, I'll be spending more shopping this year than last.
  21. Two friends. Two dogs. Five cats. And me, if I want to have something under the tree to open on Christmas morning.
  22. Christmas is a time for memories and when we lose a loved one it can be upsetting to realize that things will never be quite the way they were. When my husband passed away nine years ago Christmas ceased to be a special day. He was my last surviving family member. There are no more warm fuzzy moments, no presents under the tree, no one here but me. The memories of how it used to be make me incredibly sad. Thankfully I have friends who have me over for Christmas dinner every year. It's always fun and gives me something to look forward to.
  23. I made my last (hopefully) pre-Christmas trip to the grocery store at 6:30 PM Friday. Great timing... the store was practically empty and there were no lines. All the seasonal flowers and plants were marked down and I found a huge planter bowl containing four or five large poinsettias for $6. I'll be giving it to a friend for Christmas. Gift buying done!
  24. Check out http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak/WeeklySpecials before purchasing tickets. Apurpleocean, a couple of years ago I booked a ticket in a sleeping car to and from New Orleans and couldn't find discounts anywhere. They all seemed to only be available for traveling coach.
