The ereaders with eink are very fragile. THey are ink between 2 layers of glass, Even pressure from a bag will damage the ink. The Fire however is made with gorilla glass which is 200 times stronger than glass. I would buy th efire over a ipod touch anyday. The screen is much more of a reader size plus it has all the apps. There is a comparison chart of the Nook color and the Fire on amazon kindle forums, the Nook doesn't even come close in comparison to the Fire's operating system and with kindles new kf8 format they just announced, the display is going to be awesome. The have an exclusive contract with DC comics that enraged Barnes and Noble so bad that tehy pulled the comics from their bookstore. -
Nintendo DSI or DSI-XL

The 3DS has been out a long time and the prices already dropped considerably. Even on the 3ds. -
I refuse to give gift certificates. My whole family is the same way. I feel it's impersonal, like giving cash.

How do you make your lists/budge/amount of giftst?
peppysfireball replied to momof3luvs1's topic in 2011
WOW. My family thinks I go overboard. My son at home gets around 12 and the older kids who are out of the home get about 6. My grandkids also get about 6. I can't imagine buying 30. I thought I spent too much. THey usually get 1 or 2 large things, this year my youngest is getting a kindle fire, it's all he asked for. I will buy some books and dvd's, maybe some clothes. Probably a few video games. My oldest doesn't want me to spend that much on him, but told me if my daughter gives me a big list like last year, he will take a windshield for the 58 chevy truck he's building. That's about 300 for the older kids and 3 or 400 total for the one still at home. -
Can't be exclusive . I've seen it in Shopko and Toysrus both in the last week.

Walmart brings back layaway but NOT on Black Friday
peppysfireball replied to speeddiva's topic in 2011
I used to have several walmart layaways going from summer til xmas. I refuse to do it the way they are now. I will not pay a fee and the fact that every item has to be over 15.00 is ridiculous. I am already getting the stuff I need on amazon for less money. The are also limiting it to toys, electronics and jewelry. Too many limitations for me. I was also told if you cancel there is a 10.00 fee you lose on top of the 5.00 you paid. They are money hungry,. -

I would go with the fire. I have a kindle and have already preordered the fire for my son within 5 minutes of the link going live. If you go on the amazon forums , you can see anything you need to know about it. Plus my son wants it for games and movies. I would rather watch a movie on a big screen instead of a tiny one. IT is reported that it will be the hottest item this xmas. They are selling 50,000 a day, I would be worried about getting it by xmas if I waited to order though . -
Ours has always opened at 4. I hope not. We don't go till about 5

My daughter got the pony. I couldn't resist. She was in kindergarden. She is now 22.

Not that I know of and I'm on there everyday. If you go to your cart, at the top of the page if something has changed in price, there is a huge box telling you the price has changed.

Nintendo ds or 3ds for a 6 year old?
peppysfireball replied to Red Dog's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
My son is 14 and has had the gameboy advance, the ds and now the dsi. He says he has no interest in the 3ds because there are only a couple games for it. Make sure they are for your sons age. I mistakenly bought Toy Story for my son's first ds game thinking it would be for his age but although it was geared towards younger children, the skill level was very high and he couldn't play it for a few years. My grandkids are 5,7,9 and the 2 younger ones can't really play any of the games that we have here. -

Definitely. THe extended warranties are just like the regulare kindle warranty and are expensive. THe square trade warranties for the kindle include acd. accidental damage. You can step on it and they will just send you a check to buy a new unit. The extended waranties you buy from amazon ,etc, amazon will send you a refurbished unit if it's been after 30 days. Within 30 days it is a new unit. -

It applies to any kindle registered on your amazon account. Mine was a gift and I don't know where it was bought. The 30 day no questions asked does not apply if you buy from someone else though. -

All amazon gift cards are the same and you can apply them towards your balance, but if you buy them from target you pay tax, if you buy them from amazon, it's immediate and you pay no tax. I buy whatever I can because they don't charge taax. I have never heard of amazon payments. I will check into it. -

The Nook color is just a backlit reader. IT is nothing compared to the fire. For one thing their customer service is horrible. Ifyou break your kindle , you call amazon and they will overnight hyou a new one and you have 30 days to return the damaged one. If you want a reader only , don't buy the fire, it's a tablet with a backlit screen , although it is color. The regular kindles have a pearl eink screen which mimics books, you can read in the sunlight, which you can't do with Nook color or the fire . -
There are 4 new kindles coming for release in November. You need to ask her if she wants a reader or a tablet. It is confusing for some parents since the kids are wanting the kindle Fire tablet. All kindles have wifi which is always free since you provide it. The Fire does not have 3g, but it is a tablet and you can buy app games and stream movies from amazon on it. You can also put your music and pictures on it and your kindle books. You should go to amazon.com and look at the new product page, go to their kindle discussion forums and look for more information on them if you need it. I am on there everyday. I preordered my son the fire since he doesn't want a reader,he wants the gaming and movie availability of the tablet. THe kindle keyboard is what I have. It's an ereader, it is wifi only or wifi and 3g. The 3g is only necessary if you travel a lot and still want to dowload books while you are gone. The plain kindle is cheaper but has half the battery and half the storage, it's a stripped down kindle. THe new kindle touch is preorder now for November, it's a kindle reader with a touchscreen. SO you need to ask if she wants one of the readers, or the tablet.

Also, I have over 800 books on my kindle and have not paid for one yet. THere are tons out there for free. The kindle basic is half the battery life and half the space and doens't have a lot of the features of the kindle keyboard, but the new kindle touch sounds exciting too. I read on my kindle 8 - 10 hours a day and can't imagine not having it. -

It is very easy, you buy a gift card and send it your own amazon account. They will email you the gift card. SImply select apply to account and it will take you to your amazon account. Apply the gift card to your account. THen open your kindle fire preorder and select apply gift balance to this order. IT comes right off. Everyone who isn't familiar with amazon, here's the best thing about them. If hyou break that kindle or it quits working, simply call amazon and they send you a new one out overnight most times. You have 30 days to return teh broken one with their prepaid label. THey are WONDERFUL. One lady dropped hers in teh kitchen sink and they overnighted her a new one. THey are unreal. My son originally wanted an Ipod Touch just for the apps. He has a nice mp3 player, but he can stream movies or put his psp movies directly on the fire. For more info, go to amazon.com kindle forums. I go on there daily to get more info and learn all I can about them. -

That's because it's a 3rd party reseller which we don't post on here. Amazon has it up to 17.77 now. -
Have you thought about the new Amazon Kindle Fire tablet.? My 14 year old is very excited about it. Any music or media you buy from amazon is stored free in the cloud so no need for a huge storage. It's 199 right now on preorder and they are selling 50,000 a day. It is going to be a huge item at xmas time. I preordered my son's within 5 minutes of the link going live. It has lots of apps and stuff like the Ipod would and is more affordable than a laptop.
