Oh how the times have changed - A Look at Old Christmas Catalogs
queenofshopping replied to miss_heidi's topic in 2010
OMG I totally had that!! -
All of our Christmas decorations live at my grandmother's house, so it's a bit of an annoyance to figure out when we can go get them and where we'll put all the boxes while we're doing it before they can be returned. Usually I try for right after Thanksgiving/first week of December, when we're making all of our cemetery visits. We get a real tree so that doesn't happen until (usually) the 2nd week of December. Every year I say I'm going to do things earlier and, well...*sigh*
-
It took me literally 12 tries to get in!
-
That's what I figured, but I'm familiar with a limited number of toys these days so at a glance I could see them being anywhere between those 2 prices. Thanks!

I don't know what everyone was expecting, but I'm very happy with the ad as usual. Yes, Kohl's does have higher regular prices, but when you take into account the % off it's usually a great deal. Very few stores do a flat % off all toys - their selection is fairly small, but for me it always beats the heck out of TRU's selective (and not that great a discount) BF deals which are mostly made up of things no one wants anymore. So, say Kohl's has some Barbie thing for $30 that's normally $20 at Wal-Mart/Target/TRU...I'm not going to wait just in the hope that someone will put that certain item on sale (chances are they won't) when I can get it on BF for half price at Kohl's, which still works out to 25% off the other stores' price after discount. Plus the Kohl's cash is a great incentive. Anyway, I just think Kohl's consistently delivers a good BF ad. Last year I did my shopping online (midnight here I think) and the site was a nightmare for a while but once things settled down it was great - I got almost everything I wanted, I saved a ton of money, and the stuff came very quickly. Even the rebate (oh no, rebates!) came very quickly.

Stupid thing won't let me log in!

Does anyone else think the language is a bit ambiguous for the Thursday 50% off toys? Are they definitely regular $9.99, not on sale for $9.99? 'All $9.99 toys' seems a bit murky to me.

(Sorry if this has already been discussed) Any idea if we might see any good Wii bundles?

Official Kohls.com Kohl's Online Coupon Code Discussion Thread

I swear I got a copy of the current circular in the mail with a new peel-off, but now I can't find it. Did anyone else get this, and if so could you post the % off code? Thanks! -
I was placing an order for 2 pairs of pants for my father. I get to the last page before I pay and the cost for regular shipping is $12.75 That's psychotic! Two pairs of dress pants! Not even a big & tall size! Is someone going to hand deliver them in a garment bag?! So I tried changing it and guess how much they were going to charge me to pick it up myself in-store? $7.50! No freaking way!! What is going on here?! I wish we could get them from Kohl's, where they have the same pants on sale for the same price, but could use our extra 30% off code and probably get free shipping, but they don't carry his size. Sigh.

A friend of mine said she got in-store coupons for Huggies diapers (which she's using in combination with the $10 ECB deal) - has anyone else gotten any when they scanned their card? I haven't gotten anything like this lately because I only buy baby stuff when she alerts me about good deals.

Swapping unwanted gift cards?
queenofshopping replied to queenofshopping's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
I looked at that, dealluvr, but it only wants to buy your gc from you (and for a rather low % of its value). conj, it's a $25 restaurant one for Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc. -
My dad got some unwanted gift cards for his birthday last year, and I found Card Avenue and traded them for him. Now, post-Christmas, we're in the same situation again, but that site seems to be gone Anyone know what happened to it? The only places left all seem to be the ones that just buy your gift card from you.

queenofshopping replied to Fishboysmom's topic in Online Hot Deals
When I was checking how much the shipping was, I believe I saw something that said no other codes or offers can be applied to orders, because everything is 75% off. -

Spoiled by Amazon Shipping? VENT
queenofshopping replied to conj's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
*raises hand* Another Amazon fan here! Don't do Prime, but so far I've placed IDK how many orders w/ free shipping and I can't believe how fast they came! My mom ordered something around 11am one day and it arrived around noon the next! I didn't realize how spoiled I was until I started doing more online ordering elsewhere - I get order confirmations that have no information whatsoever about when the package will ship or when it's expected to arrive (I'm looking at you, Yankee Candle!), or I get outrageous estimates (one USB drive from WM ordered on BF won't be available at Site-to-Store til the 9th-14th?!?!). I still haven't figured out what in the name of heck is wrong with Old Navy's whole shipping system. I must say, however, that I was quite pleasantly surprised with Kohl's; the stuff I ordered on BF all came very quicky! Granted it had just basically been lobbed in a box that was then sealed with 1 piece of tape, but whatever, I'm satisfied. Currently waiting on orders from Old Navy, Best Buy (my order will be shipped in null-null days *headdesk*), and Amazon. The Amazon was ordered yesterday, while the other 2 were ordered on CM and BF, respectively. Who wants to guess which one will come first? :-P -
Real Christmas Trees thread - merged (questions, pics...)
queenofshopping replied to bugsette's topic in 2009
I've scheduled ours for this Friday, though every year I worry that we're either too early, and the tree will die too soon, or too late, and I won't have enough time to decorate -
I think the problem with the Hungary question is that, as in many countries, there are actually 2 different times to get gifts, and thus 2 different gift-bringers: St. Nicholas comes on his feast day (Dec. 6th), but according to Wikipedia, presents are also received on Christmas Eve, and are brought by the Angel or Christkind. The duality comes from the time of the Reformation, when traditions thought of as Catholic, namely the association of Saint Nicholas with Christmas, were discouraged.

My cousin sent me a list of pre-teen/teen books she would like for Christmas, from authors like Sarah Dessen. I looked on Amazon and all were regular price...has anyone seen this kind of thing on sale anywhere? I'll pay full price (well, B&N member price) if I have to, but I thought I'd ask first, since this is the kind of thing I haven't paid attention to in a great many years Edit: hey, my 1500th post! Yay!
