  1. Photo #1: Overheard old-timer- "I miss the old Black Friday sales. I haven't seen one fist fight yet." Upon hearing this a kid replied "Fist Fight? You want it on DVD or Blu-Ray." Photo #2: Even crouching near this wall I feel like I have a target on my back. Photo #3: Little did they know, the Funko's were not Gamestop exclusives.
  2. Can't say I'm excited about the Walmart+ getting early access, but then again, I didn't really see anything of interest. I don't have much of a list this year so maybe that's part of it.
  3. My two favorite deals I've gotten were years apart. My latest was a couple years ago getting the laptop I'm still currently using. My old one messed up and I needed a new one and was hoping for a good deal. I was able to snag one from Best Buy and I'm so glad I did. My other favorite deal was around 2004. I bought a VHS/DVD recorder at Walmart. It was my first big purchase after having my job and it felt exciting to get a big item and feel the rush of beating other shoppers to get it. It was the first or second year I went shopping on Black Friday and was lucky to snag one after working an overnight shift. I enjoyed it so much it became an annual tradition that I got every Black Friday off. I told my boss that I would gladly work both Christmas and Thanksgiving just to have Black Friday and New Years Eve/Day off. Working in fast food New Years Day was always the worst, and we never had family gathers on the actual holidays, so it was a win win. Since then not too many traditions have stuck around as I no longer have a steady income and family members have passed on. It was a bit fun last year to spend Black Friday decorating for Christmas for the first time in years (besides minimal decorations previous years, with no family around, it just didn't feel like I needed to decorate). I found all our decorations we still had (after surviving a move and tossing some), and decided I would decorate the small apartment the best I could. My mom was quite excited to see we still had so many decorations, and going forward, I hope to continue it as a new tradition. I plan to start decorating right after another yearly tradition on Black Friday- watching the B/W 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street.
  4. I can't wait for the month to be over, I can only take so much of the same 7 movies played over and over. If it wasn't for The Simpsons, I wouldn't even watch Freeform this month, but its good to have background noise in the evenings. I hope their Christmas schedule is a little less repetitive. You would think with such a big library they could play more random stuff.
  5. I can't think of any big items, but I wouldn't mind finding some PS4 games cheap since my bil gifted me his old one earlier this year. Also wouldn't mind finding a good deal on a Tracfone for my mom. She has to upgrade soon and being a penny pincher and not tech savvy, she's looking for the right kind.
  6. Congratulations to all the winners!
  7. I received my nice little package today too. I was quite deLIGHTed once I saw it.
  8. I disagree, but I hold no ill will. If the Chiefs don't win it all this year (I'm having my doubts), I would be more than happy to see Buffalo winning it all.
  9. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N38WQSH/ref=twister_B09F7TGV1H?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 I would get this for my mom. She's not computer savvy (never touched a computer) but somehow got her to use an old Nook my sister had but its old. She won't ever get on the internet, so a bookreader would be better than a tablet for her.
  10. Congrats to all the winners, there were some awesome haikus.
  11. Man I wish I could go back in time and get all the ads from previous years so they could be rescanned for the site. Even better would be going back and finder even older ones.
  12. Time to get out the Halloween decorations! Though to be honest I never cared about decorating for Halloween, but I did get my skeleton from storage to put on the patio. Betting than keeping the skeleton in the closet. Also brought home an old kitchen table to work on puzzles as the temperatures start to fall. I think back to previous Black Fridays and how I'd sit at the same table looking at all the ads. Today I can't remember the last time I bought a newspaper (Black Friday or not). My local newspaper was just sold and changes hands today (thank goodness Gannett no longer owns them), so hopefully it starts to get better. Have a Happy Halloween month everyone and its time to start getting excited for Black Friday if you haven't yet!
  13. I'm not sure which one I like more, so I'll post both: raindrops on kittens don't appeal to me as much as Black Friday deals though, I think I like this one better: Reminiscing on the archive site of deals past what did I buy then?
  14. The weather is always weird around here in the Fall. It was starting to top off in the upper 70's and low 80's then BOOM! a few days of 90 plus weather followed by rain and cooling off again. I don't mind too much though since it will be cool enough to start getting holiday decorations from storage and bringing home a kitchen table to be used to work on puzzles. Speaking of puzzles, I wonder if puzzles ever get any love in Black Friday sales, I don't seem to remember any, but I didn't puzzle as much in the past.
  15. Sitting here just thinking about what to post for this month. Listening to 90's music and thinking how I wish I got a chance to shop on Black Friday back in the 90's. I was still in school then, but even still living in a rural area, it would have been tough. I watched an old video of a local fire district putting on a live demonstration of extraction in 1985, and while it was cool to watch the helicopter fly in, I was much more excited to see the brand new Walmart in the background, and a local store called "Place's" in the background. The scenery has changed so much since the 80's and even the 90's, that I wouldn't even know where to begin when telling my nephews and nieces how things once looked. I guess that's how my parents would feel when telling me how it was between when they were growing up to more modern times.
  16. I can tell its August, I'm starting to look at the Black Friday archives looking at the old ads. Only another month or two and we can see the current ones. I can't wait.
  17. It's beginning to look a lot like..... AUGUST! Every where, I go. The heat is 110, looks like I'll be staying in to find some deals on....line! Even in written form, I'm no Johnny Mathis, but oh well. Heat index is over 105 for the second straight day, hopefully some afternoon showers will knock that out.
  18. The local nursing home in my town put on their annual fireworks show last night. I'm not big into fireworks, but they looked nice and sounded much louder than normal. Since my dad passed I haven't done much to celebrate Independence Day, but might have some burgers and hot dogs this year. After feeling down the last couple months, things seem to be getting a bit better, and if the rain and heat don't cause too much trouble I hope to get some work done in storage. Also hope to catch a nice parade later this month.
  19. Another month in the books, and I guess that book would be getting pretty large if you put a whole month in a book since the beginning of time. Nothing really has changed, though I just bought a steam mop, so it will be fun to mess around and clean stuff up for a few weeks.
  20. I think its been raining the last 40 days and the next 40 don't look that great either.
  21. The good part about May is that hopefully snow is done, but now is tornado season. At least I can open the windows for a while and get stuff done in storage. Hopefully it won't be too warm this summer, but at least I might be able to get out a little more than I did last year.
  22. Its the end of April, I guess I better bust out my N*SYNC albums because before you know it.... IT'S GONNA BE MAY!
  23. Happy April everyone. I'm excited and done a little rearranging and spring cleaning and for the first time in a while feeling optimistic that things are starting to look better and I might make more trips out. Hope to hit a couple antique malls later this year and maybe a few garage sales. Not that I need more stuff, but just to enjoy some nice weather.
  24. Just realized I hadn't checked in for the month, I guess that's good because it means I've been busy. February pretty much stunk with a few people I knew passing away (some from Covid, others from other ailments including cancer), so let's hope March is better.
  25. Thought I'd pop in before I have a Bowl of Super tonight watching the Chiefs play in two in a row. Two of my favorite teams growing up was the Chiefs and the Buccaneers, so this is a pretty good early birthday present for me. While I don't root for Tampa anymore, I still can't think of another team I'd want the Chiefs to face. I think it will be good game. Too bad Tampa wouldn't use their throwback creamsicle jerseys.
