  1. What a wonderful list. I want to especially thank you for this idea: Consider having a set of afternoon "doorbusters" to get shoppers who might have missed your store in the morning back later in the day. I work in a hospital on 3rd shift and don't get off till 7:30. By the time I can get anywhere, the really good doorbusters are long gone. It sure would be nice to be able to get even one good doorbuster. I would say a store doing this type thing would win over some brand new customers.
  2. Are you talking about the one in Monroe, Oh? My hubby tried to get me to go shopping there last year and I refused. Between the I75 construction and the crowds, they would have probably carried me out of there in a straigh jacket.
  3. Date with hubby, deals, tradition, buying Angel Tree gifts.
  4. I don't shop at Goodwill ever since I saw a very used Dollar Tree puzzle that they were wanting $2 for. The Goodwill here gets a cut of the property tax, so to me, there is no need to charge the prices they charge.
  5. Isn't Walmart doing secret markmark downs that you only find out about when you check out and see a big price difference? The reason I ask is yesterday, I went to the Walmart we go to all the time, got a track suit that was marked $10 for $3. I went back after I paid trying to find another one but couldn't find a size that was anywhere near the size I needed.
  6. I use evaporated milk in mine too, either Pet brand or Carnation. A word of warning, if you decide to use the evaporated milk, don't be confused with condensed milk. After listening to me and another friend go on about using the evaporated milk, she decided to try it, only she got condensed milk. Needless to say, the mashed taters were thrown in the garbage.
  7. Give Santaclaus a T shirt or you just may find coal in your stocking on Christmas morning.
  8. Our local paper here in Cincinnati has been doing that for at least 3 years. They charge the same price as they do for a Sunday paper.
  9. One year, we didn't get an ad at all around here. If it hadn't been for Gottadeal, I would have had no idea what was in the ad. We've never gotten the ad on any day but Turkey Day.
  10. Keep us updated about your search. I am still shaking my head at the thought of a food pantry not taking you up on your generous offer. So many people are in dire straits this year that most food pantrys are begging for more donations. I got my baby stuff today, next week I will get regular food. I intend to alternate between baby food and food for older children and adults. It's so easy to donate, all a person has to do is add a few extra cans or boxed containers of food on their shopping list.
  11. Never in my life have I heard of a pantry turning down an offer. Have you called your local Y? Some of them provide shelter for homeless women and I am sure they would welcome anything they can get.
  12. I will be contributing where I work. We are doing a food drive. Now, my real reason for replying. Please don't forget the littlest guys. They can't eat just anything so please remember to buy some baby food, juice, cereal to add to your donation.
  13. I have gotten them at Walmart and believe it or not, have had really good luck with them. I still have a mini chopper and a sandwich maker that I got years ago. Both still work well. I didn't have a bit of a problem getting what I wanted. I have even seen them over the weekend after Black Friday.
  14. I found out too late that I had eaten one of the 40 cents a pound turkeys at our sons house. It was really good, every bit as good as brand name. I did get two of the 60 cent a pound Honeysuckle White, paid just under $10 for each. Has anyone but me noticed that Walmart has marked up the stuff you need to go with the turkey?
  15. I work at a hospital and this year I have to work Thanksgiving night so I'll be meeting the paper guy as he comes through the front door.
  16. Rain or snow maybe Shivering in a long line All for a good deal.
  17. I would like to go to that mall but I don't know if it would be a good thing or not. Really, I replied just to let you know that there is a lot of construction going on in that part of of I75 and there has been a lot of accidents in the area. They even reduced the speed limit in the area because of so many fatalities. I think I would rather go there in the day time if I wasn't familiar with the area.
  18. Personally, I would never take a child out on Black Friday but I can see how someone may have too. Not everyone is lucky enough to have someone to watch their kids like I did. I look for more kids to be out this Black Friday due to the bad state of the economy. A lot of people are going to need those great deals in order for their kids to have presents under the tree come Christmas morning
  19. Thanks Hummin Bird for the yummy sounding drink recipes. I would love to see more recipes from you, both for drinks and food.
  20. I haven't found a good clearance deal at our Walmart since last January. Their clearance aisle is a mess, merchandise has been handled and handled again and it shows.
  21. Well, he isn't much of a kid anymore but our son gets names from a Caring Tree and buys coats for 3-4 kids. He also gets a name from where he works and provides Christmas for a child. He also gets us involved. I am so proud of the man we raised. He's always thoughtful, always generous.
  22. For the life of me, I don't know why people have this problem. Both holidays are about miracles, Christmas being the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus and Hannukah celebrating the miracle of the oil in the lamps. Quanza (sp) is about the family and culture of African Americans, at least the best I know. No matter which holiday we celebrate, let's be good to each other. There is way too much fighting in this old world right now. Lets not argue and and fight amongst ourselves on a web site that most people love. From Santaclaus to all of you: Merry Christmas. Happy Hannakah. Happy Quanza.
  23. This or maybe something from Bath and Bodyworks. Most everyone has a favorite of some kind from there. Myself, I don't have that problem. I simply go go over to the railroad track and pick up his gift for free. Just jking, I actually get him a nice sampler of good beer.
  24. I don't live there but let me give you some advice about avoiding crowds. We go to Walmart every Black Friday and we choose the one that doesn't have a lot of other stores around it. Now we don't go after door busters or anything like that so it works for us. We are in and out of Walmsrt in no time at all and hve time to visit other stores and still get some bargains.
