Do you think people will sell their tickets this year due to the economy
conj replied to lovebears65's topic in 2009
I think there are probably more trustworthy people available to sit outside for days. I don't think there will be a huge upsurge in the people willing to sell tickets, because they will be offset by the people with reduce incomes/schedules who still want to provide a full-effect holiday for less than retail. -
Plaistow? Concord? Salem? Epping? we like the Concord one, but never been there on BF

if you back up one page, and hit "black friday" I had it bring up entirely different items. I believe it is a place holder....

how cold do you need them to be good for? 40 degrees? 30? 20? -30? what is the $$ you hope to spend....

it is not about dollar amount. it is about thought.

Last night at dinner my kids (11 & 9) agreed to forgo 1 night of Hanukkah gifts, and we would use that money to provide a holiday for kid(s) who may not get many gifts otherwise. I am proud of them for making that decision. That started a discussion of how much $$ per person per night we thought was spent... wow, they have some skewed ideas. I plan on taking them shopping, (maybe with tags off the tree, or my friends church sponsers a family) and let them pick stuff out. So, How do your kids help others for the holidays?

2 thoughts- 1) half the menorahs they display are decorative and can not be used by any religous Jew, so they are as much decoration as tinsel. 2) don't Pagans have trees for the solstice? What are they called?

Ya, it is just christmas shoppers that bring retailers over the red line... not that 11/12ths of the year have gone by. And the word being taboo, as you put it, only happens because people get so fanatical about it (both for and against). just smile and take a deep breathe

years ago I was lucky to discover my husband was willing to brave the middle of the night and the crazy shoppers to spend time with me. He went with me from store to store, line to line (to collect freebies!), and carry bags. He said "I don't care" and " do what you think" when it came to spending money. It has led us to many years of fun and many thousands of dollars in spending.

I am jewish. I spend money on black friday. I could care less if someone says merry Christmas to me. or happy hannukah. why would that offend you? Like many Jews in this country I have been exposed to so much passive aggressive religion in public places that it drives me nuts. I like christmas lights - and I like Menorahs. I go out of my way to shop a store that stocks a variety of decorations (Target has been wonderful) but I do not skip some place because someone is of a different belief than I am. O, and BTW, we call it hannukah, not holidays. Do not presume to speak for us, you are ill informed. ALL holidays are holidays.

Any one work in shipping? Can You explain this?
conj replied to conj's topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
is zone shipping to keep control on shipping costs? -
I too get this occasionally... I figure it is a glitch, as it quickly corrects itself.

Yay! I wish there was one near me. I stopped at one while on a business trip, because I remembered you all discussing it on GD. I spent some good cash, and most of the presents I brought home that trip were books.

Any one work in shipping? Can You explain this?
conj posted a topic in Deal Finder & Deal Discussion
So, online retailers put things in clearance/outlet when they are running low, and not planning on replenishing, or discontinuing items, correct? Why does it matter what zip code they are going to ship to? Why are some things available to be shipped to ... say ... Boston, but not Maine? I'd understand if it was a B&M, but they have to ship it anyway.... can you shed some light on this for me? -
well... as Brad says... they were not nasty, just point of fact. I think they should get more upset with their team members who release the info than with the site for posting them... but they do go hand in hand.
