Careful on giving alcohol for work secret santa, yes it might be what the guy likes but at my job it would bet me fired to even bring it to work. Many places have policies on this kind of thing that apply even to holiday things. The shot glass idea (esp. tic-tac-toe) counds cute though

For the first year ever I was able to put nothing on the credit cards. I have cards I am trying to pay off but no new debt from this christmas season!! YEAH!! and i didn't skip the bills to do it...this is a first too....

My boys look forward to clothes under the christmas tree. They get plenty of toy or electronic gifts too but they know clothes will be there too. It started when they were little, money was tight and we needed to fill in under the tree with practical things. So along came a warm blanket, a coat, mittens and hats, and a few new shirts and pants. Usually stuff I had found on clearance right after the school shopping died down. Now they expect the clothes. No Joke: My 12 yo ds said to me 2 days ago: "Mommy don't forget the socks and underwear for under the tree, I want the white kind." (yes he still calls me mommy...I love that kid!!!

One year we hid everything in a chest freezer in the basement. That was the best hiding place. No one knew anything was there and the kids don't go in the basement much anyway. (the freezer was unplugged for whole house electrical upgrade so no frozen gifts)

My friend went to adjust a sale price (not doorbuster) at TRU and was told no by 3 associates then the manager came out and acted like it was a big deal but that she would do it once becasue of another problem with the cashier. The TRU here is noe of the smaller ones, giving the good ones a bad name.

I have had great curtomer phone service when I get someone in the US call centers. The e-mail c/s is slow and has been a problem for me in the past. This time of year is bust for them because they usually try to be helpful, they are not perfect but for that matter, neither am I. (...she says while looking at the messy room beyond the computer screen)

Their policy seems to depend on the associate and which store you visit. It can be influenced by the tide, moon or the sun. Their official policy seems to be to Price Match (PM) but people have had different answers. There was a discussion about this http://forums.gottadeal.com/showthread.php?t=3540 it mostly was about matching the black friday deals but it should help get some answers about everyday policy as well. EDIT: Misunderstood question as well....sorry....

We go to my parents house on x-mas eve and the kids get 3 ro 4 gifts from family friends and then a big gift bag from grammy. On x-mas day they get all the out of town family and friends plus mom/dad and santa gifts. Then x-mas afternoon the other grandparents show up with a bunch of junk from the clearance shelf just in case we don't have enough stuff... (can you tell i dislike the in-laws?)

Ok, the newspaper here is also saying a lot of negative things about walmart, this follows a recent viewing of the negative movie about wal-mart mentioned above. This has not stopped people from shopping there, including myself. I'm sorry for any small businesses out there who may be hurt by having less fpot traffic but I have to shop where I can afford the most for my family. As for unfair wages and overpriced benefits I have to say that all service jobs (or almost all) have these same issues. There are very few jobs one can get with no education that would pay well and provide a great benefit package. Walmart is not the only offender here. I live in a town of upscale botiques and I know that the kids who work there are paid equal to what walmart would pay and they do not have any benefits offered to them. It's easy to take aim at Wal-Mart because they are such a huge sompany and many of their business practices are public record but do not forget that small businesses suffer the same employment issues.

I thought it was all toys also and sent hubby to get the last 2 toys for ds, no go, he thought I was nuts that "alltoys were bogo1/2" and was mad that I sent him into a store he hates.... False Advertising!!!!

You would think that living in the "Pine Tree State" (Maine) would mean cheaper trees but ours are 25 to 50 depending on the vendor and the tree size. I skip the live tree, went pre-lit artificial and bought a balsa-pine glade plug-in room scent. Cheating, but cleaner, easier and cheaper.
