  1. I know how you feel! We use to get a christmas dinner at a nice restrauant but they stopped doing that like 3 years ago and went to giving us $100.00 in cash with our paychecks before Christmas. This year we didn't get anything! The thing that bothers me the most is that they send money to a couple customers for their Christmas parties, they also deliver plants and fruit baskets to a lot of our customers as a thank you for doing business with us this year. I guess I just don't understand why you would do for other companies employees but not your own.
  2. We always put bath paints or water color tabs in each of their stockings along with some other small stuff and a bunch of candy!
  3. High: 36 °F RealFeel®: 21 °F Mostly cloudy and windy with a chance for a bit of snow or flurries Low: 21 °F RealFeel®: 14 °F Partly cloudy I really want a white christmas but it's not going to happen:bigcry:
  4. I know this is going to sound strange but add some sour cream to the batter. Not alot because you shouldn't be able to taste the sour cream but it makes cookies really soft.
  5. Usually yes but not this year. I think it's becasue of the weather. We normally have snow on the ground but this year it's been higher temps with rain.
  6. You know what go ahead and get nasty I really don't care as you're just a stranger to me. Lets just chalk it up as a difference of opinion on one of the responsibilities of a parent. You really need to read the posts carefully, as I did state that I do get tired. You know when you ask for opinions on a public forum don't expect for everyone to feel or believe the same things you do.
  7. Yes I do have children and yes I have chased them around all day. Sure it gets tiring but I also know that I had that child so it is up to me to take care of that child and I also have the help of my husband and in my family we all keep an eye out for everyone's children so even if I turn my back for a moment I know there will be someone else there. If you would reread my post I said that I was not calling you lazy. After seeing gates used because the parent was too lazy to take care of the child I just don't like them unless they are being used at a stairway or to a room that would be considered dangerous. I just can't agree with using them because the parent wants to relax and not chase their child.
  8. I think you should take the outlet covers. Take the gate if there are stairs or a room with no door that the baby shouldn't be in. I personally don't like gates unless it is used on stairs. I just have a real problem when people use them because they are to lazy to get up and watch/take care of their child. I'm not saying you are. When I was still in High School my brother's ex girlfriend always had gates up, when living with my dad and I it enclosed our living room and then when they got a trailer it blocked off the hallway, because she was too lazy to get up and take care of my neice. I had a friend who was the same way with her son. I've hate them ever since. I don't allow gates in my house but our stairs are blocked off by a door as for any other room in my house I feel the parents can just watch their kids.
  9. Thankfully I don't have this problem anymore! The only people on DH's family side we talk to is his younger brother and his girlfriend, his one aunt, his mom and stepdad but we hardly to those two. The rest we cut ties with about 1 month before our wedding 2 1/2 years ago. It's a long story and I'm glad we don't have that drama anymore. When we do see the family we talk to it's maybe for an hour at the most. In fact, DH is about to cut ties with his mom also. DH has always been the black sheep of the family and now our kids are being treated the same way and we both refuse to let it continue. Good Luck to everyone who has to put up with horrible In-Laws!
  10. Our Local Meijer always puts their kids clothes on sale for sometimes as much as 80% off. Two years ago I went in and got my kids' christmas clothes shopping done for the next year, I just bought one size bigger than what I had just bought them for christmas as my kids always seem to go up one size every year. I think I got like $500 in clothes for like $120.00. That was an awesome day! Other than that it is just Christmas items on sale.
  11. That is really sweet that you celebrate your FIL's holiday! Again I didn't mean any offense, I was just confused. These may be stupid questions but does your FIL buy christmas presents for everyone? If your husband wanted to since he is not Jewish would you be okay with him buying you and your kids christmas presents? I will agree with the one above poster, this thread is very informative! As for my family we (23-25 of us) always celebrate Christmas on the Day. I always get up early 4 a.m. to start dinner. We have Turkey, Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Corn, Green Bean Cass, Stuffing, homemade gravy, deviled eggs, veggy tray, cheese and cracker tray, pumpkin pie, sugar cream pie, apple pie, cherry delight and so other stuff I can't seem to think of right now. Almost everyone is at my house by noon.
  12. I'm sorry if I'm wrong on this and I don't mean to be offensive but then Why do you celebrate Christmas? I was always taught that the Jewish do not celebrate christmas and doing so goes against your beliefs. If you are going to go against your beliefs on that then why not write out Christmas. How can putting a vowel in a word be worse than actually celebrating a whole day?! Again no offense, I just don't understand how one can be worse than the other.
  13. The kids and I are going to make cookies this weekend! We are making sugar, chocolate chip, peanut butter w/kisses, the Chocolate Mint Softies listed above, potato, and a new receipe I found the other day I just can't remember the name. I also plan to make Christmas tree Brownies. Then next weekend we will be molding candy, making chocolate covered pretzels, and maybe making mint chocolate covered oreos (half the oreo is green and the other half is red).
  14. I thought Dead Man's Chest was number 2 and The Black Pearl was the first one. But anyway I have no idea about the details, I would think you should get the dvd of which ever title was listed. I bought this at walmart last night for $13.88. The 2 disc one was $19.88 but we don't watch all the extra stuff (5 hours) so I didn't see a reason to buy that one. That walmart didn't get one with t-shirts or music CD. Maybe I'll check the other walmart I normally go to this saturday.
  15. My point was that it's up to the parent of that child not the SIL, MIL, or anyone else. I myself feel they are just a pretend toy doll and allow my step-daughter to have them, which I stated in my original post. I was simply pointing out that if one is going to disallow those dolls due to them being inappropriate then 90% of the rest of the toys on shelves today fall into that same category of being inappropriate. I mean if one honestly believes that a pretend bratz doll will encourage their daughter to dress as a hoochie then wouldn't a fighting game encourage their child it's okay and rewarding to fight? or that it's okay to wreck a vehicle on purpose because the vehicle will not be ruined or a person can not be killed since their toy figure didn't die or the video game people didn't die. See what I mean? Someone can always find something inappropriate about a toy. I don't feel this way about all toys I am simply giving examples. We have bratz but my SD also knows and has been taught that dressing the way they do is not acceptable. For us we allow pretend playing but we also teach right from wrong. I am raising my kids the same way I was raised and I think I turned out pretty good! I guess here is a question for the OP...Are you going to limit your own child's toys to only the toys that the whole family deems okay?
  16. I need to finish up DH's christmas (should be able to do this tomorrow on Dec. 5th). Wrap all the presents, which I think I will start tonight since most of our tv shows are reruns now til after the first of the year. The next two weekends I am going to be baking baking baking cookies with the kids plus making chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate candies.
  17. Well to me it's just a doll, a pretend doll. I mean if your going to say they are inappropriate then you might as well scratch Barbie off the list for her measurements and clothing choices along with My Scene, baby alive or any other baby doll that requires 'taking care of' (real water, food, changing wet and soiled diapers) because no child should be doing this at such young ages and truthfully a real baby is much more work and may give the little girl the wrong impression of how to care for a real baby. Scratch off GI Joes, Pirates, well really any kind of boy action figure because little boys should not be taught that it is ever okay to play with guns, bombs, knives, or stealing things from other people. Oh, and they shouldn't be allowed to play with matchbox cars or any other toy car if they are going to crash them because realistically crashing cars ruins them and can kill people so they shouldn't be taught that nothing will happen if you crash a car on purpose. Scratch video games off the list too because there are so many fighting games, crashing cars games, hunting cars, games that use weapons and the fact that they discourage exercise and creative mind using play time. Hell we might as well get rid of 90% of the toys that are on the shelves now a days! Oh the things we teach our kids thru PRETEND play! By the way my step-daughter, several of my nieces and their friends all have and play with these dolls and NONE of them dress like a hootchie or have ever asked or tried to dress that way.
  18. Wow that is really good customer service! I had some great customer service yesterday with Directv over our local channels. Where I live I have to have local channels to a city that is 2 hours away but the people who live about 1 mile west of me can get local channels to a city that is only 1/2 hour away from us. The 2 hour city doesn't cover anything local for us, no town events or school delays, not even the current weather conditions but the 1/2 hour one does. It's all due to some government regulations crap. Well the dispute center for Directv submitted an e-mail about this problem to their main headquarters and this government agency and then credited my bill $75 for me to use the money to go buy an anntena and for my trouble!
  19. I am thinking about getting my son the wheels and wings set but I can't find any reviews on and K'nex products. If anyone has them, what is your review? Great buy or waste of money? TIA!!!
  20. Very Pretty! I love that Snowman Bubble light, where did you get them?
  21. I have heard about this and all those versions. I heard a different version once that stated the tradition came from Germany and that they would decorate their entire trees with glass pickles and then one real pickle christmas morning and the child who found the real one got an extra gift from St. Nicholas. I see them in stores all the time but we don't have one.
  22. I just called one of the stores in Fort Wayne, IN and they will be PM and the store is not closing so we are welcome to come inside and stay warm!
  23. Well she wouldn't have her truck if she wasn't hiding it in a walmart parking lot in the next town over from her! One of those buy here pay here places has been at her house so many times to repo that truck it's not even funny. Yeah, DH is the black sheep in his family and now they are starting to treat our kids the same way.
  24. I have no idea what age I was when I found out about santa in the actual person who makes and brings all the presents on Christmas Eve, but the spirit and magic of Santa still lives in me today. I think I would have to thank my mom for that because even after we knew the truth she still took us every year to see santa and we always wrote him a letter and presents still only appeared on Christmas Eve. All three of my kids (7, 6, & 3) still believe and I hope they continue to for atleast a couple of years. Even after they find out I will still do all the santa stuff anyway.
  25. Inlaws are on the top of my list. I don't even think DH wants to see or talk to his mom this year. We haven't spoken to his older brother and sister for 2 1/2 years now and I think he is about to tell his mom where to stick it also. His mom lives about 3-4 hours away but she comes to town a lot to see the oldest and youngest boys and their families and her daughter and her family when they are in town but she hardly ever calls or comes to see DH, I and the kids. Half the time we don't even know she is in town until we see her truck somewhere or DH's younger brother mentions it. She also does major favoritism (sp?) with the grandkids. She is always buying or making some kind of clothes or blanket for all the other grandkids except for our three. DH was always the black sheep of the family and now they are treating our kids the same way and DH is sick of it. Boy could I tell some stories about that family! Taking down the decorations would be second on my list then last but not least the long winter months ahead. I love snow I just don't like the cold.
