  4. I think holding spaces should not be allowed... On a completely different note, I went to see Harry Potter the day after it came out... I bought tickets online days prior. I came to the theater 45 minutes in advance just as the doors were openning. I was glad to see not many people were in-line thinking my friend and I could score some great seats. WRONG! Everyone was saving multiple seats (I mean 5 or 6!) for other people. It was ridiculous. I was practically touching the screen with my nose, but then someone went to complain and security arrived, they made people scoot in, giving the "others" only a few minutes to arrive before making them relinquish their seats. Maybe secuirty should be used to enforce this during BF?
  5. sorry i just have to say i love aol...ive had it for 6 years & i could never imagine not having it...that said i know a lot of people dont like it, & it has its share of issues

    There are reasons behind it:

It's horribly over-priced... I don't care how many small utilities it tries to package... Also, even though you pay the most amount of money for dial-up service, you are still bombarded with ads... What's with that!?

  6. I agree w/ the video ipod... bought one for my gf she loves it, I have the 4th gen 20gb and it looks large compared to the video one... if you can get student pricing its 269.99 + tax.

Even if you can't $249 is the price for a 4gb nano vs 299 for a 30gb video ipod.

$50 more gives you 7x the amount of storage.

    :2woot:

Ha. Yes, I bought the 20 gig 4th generation 1.5 years ago and I really want the video one now! I'm seriously considering selling the first on eBay...

7x storage AND beautiful video... Yay for Lost episodes on the go!!! :)

  7. We're more than pleased with our CC Toshiba laptop.....upgraded the RAM to 1GB already ($40), now running in dual-channel mode. The ATI graphics is taking 128MB out of the system RAM, but this still leaves 872MB RAM for Windows...more than enough for us.

We checked ut the Sempron vs. Celeron processor lappys and really couldn't tell the difference between both running the software we're going to be using the laptop for....Excel spreadsheets, Word, internet, etc. Even watching DVDs on both variants of machines was essentially the same.....so saw no problem with having a Celeron processor in the laptop. (All 3 of my home ocmputers are Athlon 64 processor machines, so I do have a "bent" towards AMD right now...)

As a side benefit, when we signed up with the AOHell plan (for teh $150 discount), we were initially signed up in the $23.90 dial-up plan. Called the CC we purchased the laptop from, talked with the manager and he told me all I had to do was call the 1-800 number at AOL and change the plan. Seemed simple enough.....and was even better. When I was on the phone with the CS rep, I mentioned I had really wanted the broadplan they advertise....the "Bring Your Own Broadband Plan," and she said "No problem!" and changed us over to it....for $10/mo.

So our total cost for the laptop, $231 after tax in the store, plus $120 in AOL fees, comes to $351....a nice price.

Very nice indeed! Glad that worked out for you.

  8. if you have the money, you wont be buying one of the black friday laptops... thats what im talking about, not the 2000+ dollar laptops that can run games well.

That's really ignorant... I'm a student, I want a laptop I can throw in my backpack, I want a laptop I can carry around without having to ask for Campus Security to escort from the campus library to my dorm in downtown Chicago, I want a laptop that is suitable for web browsing and word processing, I'd say a 400 dollar notebook fits the bill perfectly.

  9. Um . . . not to be a tech dweeb, but have you guys actually sat down and benchmarked the systems against each other? (FTR, I have.)

Generally, AMD chips -- even cheapo Semprons -- meet or exceed the Intel chips in their same price point.

That's why Intel has to load 1Mb of cache onto a low-end processor while AMD can get away with 256 kb cache.

If the AMD had 1Mb on die, I guarantee it would blow the Intel so far out of the water it wouldn't be funny.

Also, the AMD chips have PowerNow, which is an incredibly handy feature and milks a lot more battery life out of a small battery.

I don't know too many techies who would take an Intel over an AMD.

I don't agree. The AMD chips may have better peformance for gaming, but not everyday use.
