  1. Have you received the Walmart letter for 2016, yet?
  2. Overheard a couple of managers talking about yesterday (Thanksgiving). I guess every store in the area was down 15% to 20% over last year. Store manager mentioned a "special announcement" that was in the works from Walmart this Wednesday to help with sales. I really liked the format and merchandise from the past 2 years... also the prices were much better. I hope they go back to something like that next year.
  3. They started their Pre Black Friday sale today. Picked up a few items on my list. Still cannot paste in the forums. I got the info in an email. One of the deals was a Kama Stereo Headset for PS4 or Xbox One for $19.99.
  4. If you want the best bang for your buck in a DSLR camera go with a Canon (in your case I think about any of them will do just fine) and spend an extra $100 for a 50mm 1.8 lens. While you will not be able to zoom, it will give you good performance in low light conditions in the auto mode without a flash. When lighting is good you can switch to a zoom lens that came with the camera. I would also recommend an off camera flash. Walmart makes a budget flash that has ttlm for about $60. I would also recommend getting the "for dummies" book for your camera. It will give you good advice on composing and framing and run through settings in a fairly understandable way. If you do these simple things you will be worlds ahead of 95% of people with cameras.
  5. Got a sears card to get some extra savings. I had to call in to verify my address and they said because I had to call I could not use my card online until I received it in the mail. Maybe in store they can help me out?
  6. If you are willing to camp out Best Buy has a basic 15.6" 500 GB Windows 10 laptop for $139.99. If not the 1 hour guarantee at Wal-Mart may be your best option for a budget laptop.
  7. Just wait a second... Didn't our president say they were contained and we are dealing with the JV of people who definitely are not Islamic. Nothing to worry about.
  8. Last year I think the ad they posted in the beginning of the month was their ad. I do not recall any other specials for Black Friday.
  9. Some good prices here: http://www.walmart.com/browse/good-til-gone/0/0/?_refineresult=true&_be_shelf_id=3839&search_sort=100&facet=shelf_id:3839
  10. My city is too small to be a likely target.
  11. My son and I have gone every year since he was born. He is 8 now. Last week my church asked him "How many days until Black Friday?" and he answered correctly. Then they asked him "How many days until Thanksgiving?" and he had no idea. This is our holiday. We go camping (most years) and just spend a few days bonding. This year he is helping with the planning which is even more fun.
  12. I have 7 different printers each designed for a different kind of printing. I have one of the $20 HP black Friday specials, but I have only ever used the scanner. I really like HP's scanning software. Eventually I will replace it with an auto-feed HP, but it is fine for now. Since I started using laser printers I have quit using ink for every day printing. I have a black laser and a color laser... by far the cheapest way to print. You never have to replace the cartridges, but when you do be prepared to drop some major money all at once. I also have 3 canon wide format color printers. One uses dye based ink (Pro-100), one uses pigment based ink (pro-10) and the third uses cheap aftermarket ink for when my colors do not need to be exact (9000 mk 2). For lab quality prints (loads better than you will get at Walmart or the local drug store) I highly recommend genuine Canon inks and paper. When I used to have my photography company these printers totally changed the way I did business. They will run you about 20 to 25 cents per 4x6 photo, but the quality is the best I have seen in that price range and if you do not like something about the print you can adjust it and reprint without having to wait a week to get it in the mail. Be warned, though, that these printers are not designed to print documents so your results will not be good and you will spend a ton of money in ink if that is what you are using them for. Finally I have a second color laser with higher DPI for better quality laser prints. The toner on this printer is considerably more than the others, though... so I use this only when the quality of my laser prints is important. I just realized that I probably did not help you out much, but I spent all this time typing so I am going to share anyway. I will say that ink is a very expensive way to print for documents, but cost decreases dramatically with the second cartridge because it takes about 1/2 your original cartridge to get the ink in the line and to the print head. If you must use ink then buy generic cartridges. There is a difference in quality, but for printing an essay or website it does not really matter. Just make sure the printer you select has the features you want, and do not be afraid to hook up 2 or 3 (or 7) printers to the same computer if you have different printing needs.
  13. The only real problem I have ever seen is with line jumpers. I always bring heaters and extra food (except the years I start at Walmart and I am inside) because people are appreciative and will generally look out for you if you are kind to them. I also make a list of people to try to cut down on line jumpers. The only ones who get annoyed are the ones planning on holding a place for 12 of their friends, but this really does keep things more civil in the front of the line. When shopping I must say that I am very aggressive and people who are standing still in the middle of the aisle on their phone will get a stern talking to from me in a loud voice such as "listen, there are people behind you trying to get through... either pay attention and start moving or get out of the main aisle..." so I am probably the rude one. But I also map things out and from time to time need to get across the store in a hurry and I tend to be very direct. Another good thing to do is yell out what you are looking for and ask if anyone else is looking for something specific when you are DVD or game hunting, or looking for a specific size of clothing. By helping each other out everyone finds what they are looking for more quickly and can get on to the next thing.
  14. Wisdom for the masses : With sales starting early many people are eating Thanksgiving for lunch. Figure an early family will sit down about 11:00. They finish and clean up by noon and where do they go??? To the store. You get there at 3:00 to a line around the building and a nice police officer who tells you there is no room in the parking lot. If you really want the item you need to get there before the masses start eating. Noon at the latest will get you some of the items you want, but I would say 10:00 to make sure. I cannot tell you how many hundreds of people would come to the store frustrated because they got there 3 or 4 hours early only to hold out hope for a few movies instead of any door busters because of how long the lines were. If you wait until 2:00 you will not get your door busters. Every year about 50 people tell me they were expecting to be first in line. It is not the 1990's any more. You have to get there early. (Best Buy and Target even earlier... much earlier). Also, and I cannot stress this enough, bring something to keep you warm. Warm and in line is a time to bond... cold and in line it a time to kill everyone around you. Make sure you share your warmth with those around you... never know when you may need them to have your back. one final suggestion... Consider taking names of people in line with you if you are one of the first there. At least the first 50 or so. The last thing you want is a college kid in front of you to grow to 15 right before the store opens. This keeps everyone honest and can help the store out and make sure you keep your place in line if rioting starts. Remember, the people that get there 1 hour before the store opens have nothing to lose by line jumping. Protect yourself and those behind you. They will appreciate it. Hope this is helpful.
  15. Bring a camping chair (or buy one) and plan to sit in line for a long time. Talk to a co manager or general manager to make sure you are in the correct line, then if you are not you have at least talked to someone who can make it right if they gave you bad information. Be friendly and get to know the associate who is guarding the stock, as they can be your best friend when you they are handing them out. Last time I went after something like that at walmart I picked a slower store and got there about 8 hours early. Did not see anyone else for 2 hours. Your results may vary, though, depending on the store you pick.Worst case you can pay $50 more and be guaranteed one with the one hour deal.
  16. Yep, I was correct: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/650219424/Montgomery-Ward-brand-name-is-back-as-an-Internet-and-catalog-retailer.html?pg=all
  17. I worked for Montgomery Wards when they went our of business. Maybe someone bought their name???
  18. Prices higher than last year... less one hour guarantee specials. Economy must be getting better.
  19. They are teasing it on their website... updated the walmart app but still no ad. going back to bed. Good night all.
  20. I have a feeling tonight will be the night they reveal their sales. Anyone else have any predictions?
  21. A quick phone call to corporate normally fixes that. Walmart did that to me once and the next day called me offering to sell it to me for the price and gave me a small gift card for my troubles. Also happened with best buy once... 2 days later they had the item waiting for me to pick up at customer service. Granted both instances the price was off by less than $25, but for that small amount of money they will normally eat their mistake and make the customer happy especially if you are willing to call to voice your complaint and they were legitimately wrong. Another card to play is the online survey. A lot of companies base their manager's bonuses at least partially on survey results. I have never had to play that card, but I imagine it would have a good result if the mistake really was theirs. The only company that ever stood their ground to the end was Target. They refused to refund my money and instead issued me a store credit, even though it was their mistake (shipped the wrong item or something like that). I paid with paypal and they only refund paypal purchases with gift cards. after several phone calls, a complaint to the BBB and the FTC they refused to refund my money. Call me childish, but I never have been back to spent that in store credit and I doubt I will ever shop there again.
  22. http://store.panasonic.com/shop/model/MC-V5210 We have 2 of these. both are over 10 years old. Other than having a 50 foot cord (which is amazingly convenient) the thing that impressed us most about this vacuum was how well it worked. My wife used to vacuum about every day and had a pretty good vacuum at the time, but when we first got this one she had to change the bag 3 different times during the first pass through. It also does not put dust or dirt back in the air. Other than bags (which I get about every other year now) the only thing I ever needed to do was replace a belt on one of them.
  23. It took me less than a minute to get to the display and they were all gone.
  24. I really underestimated the popularity of The Lego Movie. Last year there were tons of the generic bricks Lego sets even the next day. This year I was 15 feet from them and they were gone. Also hit 5 other Walmarts Thanksgiving night and they were all gone there as well. Next year I know to go after those first.

My Funai actually got better with age. The picture was bright in the center and dark on the outside when I bought it... now the picture looks great.
