  1. Google announced their Nexus 10 (made by Samsung....ie Galaxy Tab 10") for $399. Just thought I would throw that out there....
  2. Do the iPod. The leappad2 is only really for little kids. At 7, she might be insulted with the Leappad. I thought about it for my 4 year old and was not impressed with it at all. It really cannot do music unless it is purchased from the Leappad store. In which case, you only get little kiddie songs. Also, EVERYTHING is AT LEAST $5. The good stuff is $30 each cartridge. With the iPod, she will be able to download some free stuff also. If anyone in her household has an iPhone, they can share media/apps.
  3. I have 2 different Garmins. They work pretty good. I do suggest getting at least the Lifetime Maps (LM) and if you travel around a big city, get the traffic also (T). The way you can tell if the GPS has either (or both) of these is to look at the model number. If it has lifetime maps and traffic, you will see "LMT" at the end of it. Lifetime maps will allow free map updates for the life of the GPS. Paid map updates usually cost $50+ each update. Map updates occur about twice per year. The Lifetime maps will pay for itself the first time you update. Traffic will reroute you around traffic if it is beneficial to your route. Or at least warn you that it is ahead of you. This is dependent on the traffic service it uses and is only as good as that service itself. It has gotten better over the years, but still has a long way to go. Garmin uses MSN for it's traffic.
  4. You would need to visit a public hotspot to download anything initially. Any time you wanted to download anything, you would need to go back to the public hotspot. You wouldn't be able to easily use your husband's computer to load apps on some of the cheaper tablets. After you get everything downloaded, they wouldn't be too bad. It really depends on how much trouble/inconvenience it is for you to visit the hotspots.
  5. Last year, I saw someone trying to sell their doorbuster ticket for a TV for $150. I don't know if there were any takers. (Yes, ticket only. You still had to purchase the item.) I know this happens alot, but this was INSIDE the store while I was waiting to check out.
  6. I picked up a cheapy tablet. I am actually pleased with it. $74.99 http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek%C2%AE-Tablet-Android-Capacitive-Battery/dp/B007QQSQFW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1350426603&sr=8-2&keywords=agptek+a9 It has the dual core processor (A9) and it has ran everything I have thrown at it. I did get the amazon app store loaded on it too. It does say that it is 4GB of storage, but after the operating system, etc. It really only has 2GB. It does have an SD card slot tho. It is slow to boot up, but after that it is fairly smooth. Excellent deal for a cheapo no name brand. If you want a branded one, go for the Nexus 7. It is $199 at the Google Play store. It is the fastest 7" tablet on the market currently.
  7. Who is going to put up the Annual "Let's Ban Walmart" topic?
  8. remember, you will be required to purchase a data plan. Please take that into account when you are trying to price it out. Maybe visit a Verizon store and ask. Iphones are OK. Androids ('DROID") work just as well and you have a larger selection. The Motorola RAZR series has an excellent battery.
  9. Dewalt is a good brand. They do have them on Black Friday also. You can check last years Lowes and Home Depot ads to get an idea for this year. Corded/cordless is more of a personal preference. You can always get him a "package" that includes a reciprocating saw if you are going to go cordless. That way, he has everything using 1 battery. You can also get extra batteries later. You can look at the brand of the power tools he has currently and get him the same brand. He probably prefers whatever brand he has the most of.
  10. 1. I think the white one matches our decor better than the brown. 2. There are RATS outside! 3. "I think I am going to put the kid back on the shelf."
  11. Available now. For the low, low price of $11 grand. In the UK. They call it 4k Resolution. http://www.techradar.com/us/reviews/audio-visual/televisions/plasma-and-lcd-tvs/toshiba-55zl2-1080745/review In 4-5 years the technology should become affordable. Also, in 4-5 years, the next thing will be on the horizon.
  12. You should team up
  13. You may want to consider Circuit City. There is one in Orlando. They usually have good deals all year round. Sometimes they are refurbished, though. They were closed down back in 2009, then bought up by TigerDirect. They have recently (starting 2010) reopening some of the stores. You may want to look into this. I am not sure how the stores are fairing on Black Friday now. They used to take alot of Best Buy's business and I expect better deals from them than Office Depot/Staples/Office Max. Anyone out there visited a New Circuit City on Black Friday?
  14. Half Price Books 10/10

  16. Stay with the site. We will have a comparison list for the laptops so you can pick the best one for your situation.
  17. Who was it last year that didn't compete as well with BF sales? Didn't they struggle during the entire Christmas season? It appears that they are hoping that everyone lines up for that new Nieman Marcus stuff instead of discounts. I hope that they don't go the same route as JCP.
  18. Maybe GD underwear for the "hip hop" crowd. Orange with a Blue "GottaDeal" right above the crack. lol What did happen to the rummage sale? I remember it was supposed to happen late last year, but don't remember it happening.
  19. Remember to add in the cost of the smartphone to your total. $40 per smartphone THEN plus the data. No more $10 add-a-lines. We have basically the same plan as you. It is much more expensive with 4 smartphones.
  20. It is a holiday....Like "New Years Day"
  21. You shouldn't purchase any cell phone plan based solely on the phone. You should pick one that gives you the best service for your area. That being said....Cricket and Virgin Mobile are "getting" the iPhone soon. These prepay services may be a good solution to you. Also, you can buy one outright (used or new--GSM version offered to work on ATT), get it unlocked, and use Straight Talk. If any of the big 3 will work for you, please consider: All require data. It is expensive as noted above. Verizon: Largest network, some services are locked out (example: Spotify, Airplay), offers Family (shared) data, but is more expensive than individual data ATT: Fast network speeds, if you are in the right areas. Expected to offer Family Data. Pricing will depend on Verizon's success. Sprint: Slowest data speeds, smallest network, Unlimited Data plans
  22. Model and budget? Generically, I would say eBay.
  23. You should take a look at this article: http://www.bestgaminglaptop.net/articles-guides/top-10-gaming-laptops/ This may be an option also: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Toshiba-Red-Horizon-17.3-Qosmio-X775-Q7170-Laptop-PC-with-Intel-Core-i5-2450M-Processor-and-Windows-7-Home-Premium/19534869
  24. Kindle Fire is pretty nice. No camera tho.... Good reviews on the Asus Transformer http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1404521&SRCCODE=LSCMPUSA&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&AffiliateID=TnL5HPStwNw-cH7bDM38x8Q31WmG51Kbaw
