  1. The Black Company----Glenn Cook
  2. For everyone out there that is afraid of Linux.....I have a friend who has an Asus eee. He is running Windows 7 on it right now. They are upgradeable if you want to buy the Operating System. VISTA will NOT work [well] tho.
  3. In conjunction with past history.......isn't the Ace Hardware ad out soon? lol
  4. Sounds like Red Bull + Vodka instead of just beer!
  5. I replaced the outside unit for about $1500 through Sears a few years ago. After I looked around, I found that I could have done alot better, but the damage was already done. For $3k, I could have replaced both the outside AND inside. I would get a 2nd opinion of what is exactly wrong. They can probably FIX it cheaper.
  6. What kind of A/C? Window, Central, Swamp? Where are you located? How much are they planning on replacing? What size? How old is it?
  7. I've never seen the hinge pins seperate. You may want to visit your local pawn shops. They usually have some there. The ones you are looking for should be fairly cheap.
  8. I use them to transfer files between computers. It is much easier/faster than burning to cd/dvd and using those. They are very convienient. Now I only need to quit loosing them! As for how much will 1GB hold? It depends on what you want to put on there! $6.99 isn't a very good price for them. You can get 2GB (double the size) for that price all day long online.
  9. I saw a refurb Dyson DC17 for $199 this past weekend at Fry's Electronics. You may want to check on their website (Frys.com or outpost.com). They may have some there.
  10. Anyone ever bought furniture at Garden Ridge? My wife wants to buy the microsuede recliner from there for $199. Will it last? Or will it be in the dumpster within a year?
  11. http://www.2computerchicks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EBS&Product_Code=51-0602&Category_Code=tum Here is a link. Just look for something similar. What is your budget?
  12. Lapidary supply companies usually sell the good quality/professional models. Ebersol is one company that I can think of right off the top of my head. Have you looked at those type places?
  13. You may want to compare the different providers LOCALLY. Sprint/Nextel where I am located at doesn't get good service. Also, are you planning on using DATA? Blackberrys usually require a "special" add-on feature that could cost you $30+. And that's just for email. If you want to compare the phones available: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/allcarriers.php If you are wanting cheap service, then I would suggest METROPCS. They have completely unlimited (voice, text, data) for $50 per line. (Compared to 99$ per line with the big names.) If you want to limit yourself to a certain amount of minutes, then it is cheaper still.
  14. Looks like they are both Bluetooth capable. This would mean a wireless headset that they could just "wear". I have a Blue Ant brand that I like very well. It is very small and also comes with ear clips so it can either fit in your ear (like ear buds) or sit on top of your ear. PLantronics and Motorola are both good brands. I know that almost every cellphone that I have bought in the past several years came with a wired headset, but I haven't bought an LG brand. Are you sure that they don't have a wired headset already?
  15. I have the Sony Alpha a300. It has the live view and is rated very well on this. It also has anti-shake technology inside the main body, so you can get a steadier shot. Sony bought the Minolta camera division several years ago and the old minolta lenses fit on it. I paid $600 with the "kit" lens. My sister bought the Cannon XSi a few months ago and loves it to death. She paid around $700 for it. It has live view also. But Cannon's anti-shake is in the lenses, which can cost over $1000 each. It seems to be about the same size as my Sony. My suggestion is to look at the brand of camera she prefers. Stick with that one. Generally, an upgrade on one of these cameras is to get a newer technology (like live view) or to get extra abilities (which most people don't use.) Also, since you are concerned about price, a 10 Megapixel camera will take high enough quality pictures to print a 8x10 photo. If you are wanting larger than that, then buy the higher Pixel cameras. Otherwise, you can get by with the lower resolution ones....therefore cheaper.
  16. Looks like Staples is the better computer. Almost the same as the CC one tho. It's worth paying the extra $50 for it due to the upgrades in the Staples one.
  17. Microcenter has the WD 1TB internal for $99 after (unfortunately) $20 in-store coupon right now. As we have seen this deal ALREADY...I'm hoping for slightly under that on BF or Cyber Monday. Now that I think of it..Where is the NEWEGG ad? Didn't Brad have it by now last year?
  18. We're looking for Enfamil, or Enfamil Gentlease coupons/checks also. We're willing to trade with Similac checks. I'm not sure if we have any currently. I'll have to check!
  19. tmobile has been great for me. If you have a "special" phone thru cingular/ATT, you can get it unlocked and just put the sim card from tmobile in it.
  20. I totaly agree! Invest in a new computer now. It doesn't have to be awesome or anything. The one suggested above should work fine. You CAN do the upgrades later. It isn't needed for it to work for you currently. There isn't anything wrong with Vista. It's just DIFFERENT!! If you have ancient (in the electronics sence) printers/scanners, then you won't be able to use them. That is about the only problem it really has. Just make sure you have plenty of memory. You can look at it this way: Upgrade your computer now. SPend $200. Next year when he wants a new game that is too much for your computer, you purchase one at $250-$300. Total spent in 2 years: $500 OR Buy the new computer now. Spend $250-$300. Next year when he wants a new game....it works! 2-3 years from now you upgrade the computer in pieces at cheap prices. Total spent in 2 years: $250-$400 Which would you prefer to do?
  21. I wouldn't worry about the Power Supply or the Video Card. The integrated video will work fine for 99% of the games a 6yr old will play. I would pick up an inexpensive Computer and just go with it. A Vista computer needs 2GB of RAM. For a 6yr old, one of these plain-jane computers will work perfect. When they get old enough to need upgrades, it will be better just to get a new one then.
  22. Fry's is a very large electronics store. In my opinion, they have better deals all year round ompared to Best Buy. Best Buy's BF is marginally better. They are actually few, and far between. I think in the "Others" section would work fine for them, as they aren't everywhere as the other stores listed.
  23. I had a camera that would take the pics very slow. If I didn't hold still for a few seconds after I took the picture, it would come out blurry. I changed the memory card with a much faster one and it helped alot! I did recently go SLR. Best Investment Ever!
  24. Most electronics work fine out of the box. But what about those few faulty ones that sneak through the quality control? Most stores have decent return policies. Will you be able to exchange that expensive electronic item for another AFTER Christmas easily? Or will you end up having to go through the manufacturer? Should you TEST the item before you wrap it? Yes, you guessed it. I'm about to buy a gaming console for my son. But I DO need to make sure it works.....right?
