Perimeter Perusing at Target (Target Clearance Deals) - 2010

They often go straight to 75% from 30% on this particular sale. Yep, lots of stores like that. Though they have been moving people around at a lot of stores, so you might find new people working on the team and have better luck. The more people are shopping the sale, the less likely they are to help you as everyone starts asking and slows them down. -

Ran out to the one store in the area that usually does toys on Wednesday, and they weren't marking down. Bummed, as it doesn't bode well for tomorrow. They had very little left anyway (1 short aisle), so I stashed what I wanted. Got a call from the garden center girl at another store as the 3 tier Sean Conway plant stand I wanted finally dropped to 75%. I was expecting it to go today, but it hadn't earlier so I left my card and she called. It is the white one if anyone is interested. ###084093436 3 tier Sean Conway plant stand $24.98 -

###Found some Silver LED Light Trees for $9.99 in Garden today. Regular $99.99. You may have seen them set up in garden before. The lights are like little flowers. They are NOT shaped like a Christmas tree. They are Christmas but don't look it. -

In that case, they may do it tomorrow for the rest of us. There are always some stores that do theirs on Wednesday. I guess I'll be ready tomorrow. -

LOL! While they might be able to be fired over it, she isn't really telling the truth. The truth is they don't know. I have gotten to know the price change team pretty well over the last 5-6 years, and they have all told me that they honestly don't know. They have some idea, based on experience, when to expect something to drop, but I've been there when they've been shocked to see something not go down on a particular day or week. The information comes through the computer system into their PDAs, and they go through item by item looking for things. They go through systematically because things are supposed to be in particular locations, so that is where they look. For Toy clearance, they just go through a section at a time and scan everything to check it. I've had cashiers guess and be wrong on most occasions. We often know the schedule better than they do unless they are stalking an item like we do. Oh, and as for calling, again, they don't always have accurate info when you call. They will see a sign and make an assumption without checking. Some store operators are not the people in guest services. At least one store I shop has the changing room attendant acting as store operator all day. She can't see what is going on, so you can't really rely on a phone call. You might or might not get good info. -

Really true! The good stuff goes fast! Funny about the S'Mores pony, though. We had 4-5 of them sitting in one store after they went 75% off. They never sold. They salvaged them. -

for those with pokemon, lps or bella sara lovers, those little fun pack boxes that were in Christmas are often found in the regular card area. I found about 2 dozen of the pokemon sets today for $.49. Bella Sara is also $.49 and the LPS ones are $.29. -

3 of 4 stores I went to were 90% off. Found toys Christmas toys in the toys section. Also got a Smith & Hawken red/green/brown striped doormat for 75% off. It is considered Christmas but not that much from my point of view. There was also a S&H Eucalyptus wreath in the S&H area that was 90% off. Didn't need it, so I moved it upstairs for some lucky person to find. Anyone looking for those Trio airplanes that are Christmas, be sure to scan and check the bar code. Some of them have a different UPC and ring up full price. -

Maybe Global Bazaar didn't sell where you are, but it sure did here. There was rarely anything left for good clearance prices. I think it is purely an economic thing. Trying to push "value" items this year rather than "luxury" or frivolous stuff. They used existing products from the storage line in the mini-seasonal area this go around, which makes it easier to push back to the regular sales floor when they set Valentines, and allows them to have their value section longer. They are also setting up patio furniture at all the stores I visited today, so the "value" section is smaller than the Global Bazaar was, and the garden & patio stuff is coming in earlier, probably for a longer season. -

Doesn't look like they'll be doing it this year. They are doing this savings thing instead. tacky, isn't it? Not at all in keeping with the image they've developed over the last 10 years or so. -

Me too! I HATE it when they change things and become less predictable. Predictability is one of the things I like most about Target clearance. If it gets too weird, I just lose interest and stop going. I never bother with Walmart anymore. It doesn't increase my regular price sales, either, like they might hope. Just means I spend less because I am in the store less often. -

Interesting. We have one store where they marked tons of toys to 50% BEFORE CHRISTMAS and they are still there. That store has a ton of Legos at 30% and those were also marked before Christmas. Our other store still has most at 30% and marked a few more to 50% Friday morning. There are always a few stores that go through all the steps before they go 75%, sorry yours is one of them! -

Yeah, they really did cut their ordering substantially this year so that they would not get stuck with a lot of stuff that they had to clearance. At Comic Con (yes, toy collecting nerd in the forum) in July the Hasbro rep said that if you wanted the exclusives this year that you should buy when you first saw them because the retailers orders were much, much slimmer. So, what IS left just isn't as plentiful or good stuff. It is a bummer, but I can see their side of it too. -

Some do, but there is usually a LOT left for 75%. The things that sell out early are the most popular licensed toys and Legos. Usually not a lot of Legos left at 75%, but they generally skip 50% for them. Most of what you see now will stay as-is till it goes to 75%. Some stores will do some interim markdowns, but most things won't change till they do it all. If you aren't there when they do the markdown to 75%, you won't find much left. Consolidation is all over the map around here. It usually depends on how much overnight help the store has and how much other work they have to do. The consolidate as they re-set the department. Some stores don't get it done till after the final clearance markdown. Usually those stores don't run an overnight crew. -

Even if you find on in stock, it might not be the same price. Walmarts don't work like Target. Ours is not anywhere near that price. -

They sell it to whoever their local salvage company is. Just so people don't think they are donating it to Goodwill, they aren't. Goodwill buys it from them for pennies on the dollar. They sell to a variety of salvage companies nationwide. In some areas this is Goodwill, in others Salvation Army and in others just some random salvage company. You can also see Target salvage lots on liquidation.com. That's why you sometimes see the electronics salvaged before going below 50%. They probably have a salvage company that will give them a better price, so it is worth salvaging it over dropping it lower. They also sometimes move clearance between stores from one store where clearance sells out faster at higher prices (though not likely with Christmas). So, you might get lucky at your local thrift stores, indeed. Unfortunately not here, but it is nice for those of you who can get it that way. -

Took the boys out shopping with Christmas money. Nothing at the Glendale, CA store. 1 pitiful aisle of Christmas left. Stopped back by the 2 story store in Pasadena and it was a predictable mad-house being along the Rose Parade route. However, I saw a flatbed cart in the toy department that had been there this morning when I went. Since it hadn't moved I decided to check it out. Mostly junky clearance toys, but 1 box had a load of Christmas section Spy Gear, some Littlest Pet Shop and an entire case of the Hot Wheels. So I left happy. And the boys found clearance Legos in the toys. -

We use them with a Christmas program at an all girls home. They each get one. I try to have sets to keep the numbers even so there is less of an issue about who gets what. If I get 15 blondes and 5 brunettes and 4 red heads, it makes for some hurt feelings. -

Pasadena CA - 2 story Target is 75%, old Fedco one is 50%. Duarte is 50% and I called Rosemead and they have, literally, nothing! The gal on the phone was bummed about it and chatted with me for a bit. She also had someone double check. What a sad, sad after Christmas this has been. I was REALLY hoping to find the Christmas Kelly dolls this year. If anyone finds a bunch of them at 90% off, please grab them and email me. I'll pay shipping. I was planning to use them for an event next year and have never had trouble getting them past years. I found 1 set between several stores, and I usually need 8-10 sets for this event I participate in each year. Oh well, if I don't track them down, I will try making another holiday set work and will be sure to STASH THEM! -

I'm still using the ones from last year, but I wish I hadn't bought so many. They leave a white coating on my glasses. I have to use glass magic once a month, at least, just to keep them clean. I briefly switched to Cascade to see if that was the problem, and it was. No white gunk with Cascade, but I am not going to toss the others. I'll use them up. But NO MORE!
