I have mixed emotions this year, feel that my holidays are evolving, now that the boys are almost grown, we have no real chases for toys... Maybe if any grandkids appear in a few years...

What about a basket with her favorite staple items, if she likes Folgers, a big can of it, etc... favorite cereals, etc.. You know she will use it because it's what she likes and she doesn't have to buy it for a while which might help her budget if she's on a fixed income.... My mom is a creature of habit....getting her to try new things is hard now, when she was younger it was a little easier...

When I made the mistake of telling the boys that something was very expensive and I didn't think Santa could swing it, they questioned how that could be and thus the Parent Share was born. I told them that with technology now and all the kids in the world that Santa needed help to make sure that everyone has a good Christmas and that parents have to pay in a percent of the money for gifts.... They have understood that we are not financially secure and Jeff was already having health issues so it worked and I think that now they play the game to make me happy, or maybe they follow my motto....If you don't believe you don't receive.

I was thinking a gift card to a restaurant or if you have a store that does dinners, maybe a card for that and a movie?? I remember when i had little ones, my office gave me a gift certificate (pre-giftcard days) to a local supermarket that did deli dinners and my MIL went and picked it up for me, dh traveled in those days and I had c-sections and could 't drive for 2 weeks... Having a meal that I didn't have to cook was wonderful! You could do a basket with nice paper plates and stuff so no one has to do dishes either! I'm sure the 11 year old would appreciate that.

One is sent, still have to finish packing the other, will go out late this afternoon, love the self service post office....Now to try to doze so I can decorate a Pikachu cake for ds18.
-
You mean there's not a Santa? I'm 53 and I still believe! My kids know that he exists and at 14 and 18 they wouldn't dare say otherwise.....

Don't worry about it. Not all of us wrap. I get so excited to see a box that isn't something I ordered that it doesn't matter about the wrapping.

My brother was in one of our Walmarts and said that it was more organized also. THe only thing was the physical amount of people in the store by the time he got his Wii, I'm thinking Fire Marshall would have had a hissy fit.... Of course he avoided the towels and the 2.00 appliances...

I always found the Target lines to be quite friendly. And good samples too. I miss the goodie bags that had granola bars and other stuff in it, would keep me going while in line to check out...

I think this is a problem at a lot of stores, a good manager will make things run smoothly for all and ease issues. A bad manager will bring more ill will than the lack of product. I know that the BB in the Jacksonville area tend to have good managers and if they get a bad one, he/she doesn't stay long. This is also true for other stores as well, a bad manager either moves up (the Peter principle) or out. I will drive further to go to a store with a good manager and avoid a store near me with a bad one.

Loved Tinks post at the bottome of the techcrunch article...... They don't mention Office Depot which would lock up on me when I was trying to get to the site to check pricing.... Must not have been a widespread issue, just some servers.
