Macy's, Dillard's and Sak's FREE make-up on 1/20/09

FREE Makeup item of your choice this Tuesday, January 20th at Dillards, Saks, and Macy's. This is part of a class action lawsuit settlement. My local news featured this story and they were talking with a Dillards manager. She said they are full size and you can get up to $25 in products for free with no purchase necessary. You are supposed to have purchased makeup within the last so many years (sorry, can't remember how many). No receipt or ID will be required.

The last sentence of OP's post said that no receipt is required. Also, I read the article that the OP references, and it also says that the retailers will take the customers word for it that they had purchased items during a specific time period. The make-up companies were accused of price fixing.

Just got back from Dillards. They have a table set up where you sign a waiver form ( no ID required). Then they have all the products displayed and you tell them which one you want. Macy's is set up the same way. Only one item but you can hit as many stores as you want.

I wish we had more than these 2 stores in my area. (Topeka, Ks)

I have to say the line was insanely long and we didn't wait. This was announced on our news last night and I can't believe how many people were at the mall for the free products. I hope some of you were able to get them.

Went this AM and you signed a form once you got to the front of the line. Took about 15 minutes to get through the line here but got the Chanel lotion, so worth the wait!

Picked up the CK Euphoria at Dillards and Coco Chanel Mademoiselle at Macys. Both stores were very organized and wait time was less than 5 minutes at either store!! Totally worth 10 minutes of my morning!! Thanks OP!!

Our mall has Nordstrom, Macy's and Lord & Taylor so I got:

Lancome mascara at Lord & Taylor

Some facial lotion (can't remember brand) at Nordstrom

Lancôme Hypnôse Shower Gel (I think that was the biggest bottle of all) at Macy's

 

Also by some weird chance I got Chanel, Inc - Coco Mademoiselle body lotion from an older woman who must have felt sorry for me! I happened to take our double-stroller Today with me to the mall (even though I only had ds1 with me) and after I got my Lancome Hypnose Shower Gel from Macy's I was trying to put the stroller into the trunk but realized I didn't know how to close it. I kept calling my hubby and getting a bit upset and this older man tried to help me but he couldn't figure it out either. Well after he left, as they were driving by us, his wife stepped out of the car and handed me this Chanel lotion and said that she got it from Macy's but she didn't need it. So I gladly took it. (BTW I finally had my hubby look up the manual and tell me over the phone how to fold the darn thing, so I was on my way then...)

 

Wish I could pick up Christian Dior Perfume but o well..

 

BTW: Around 3 it wasn't too crowded so DS1 and I only waited like 5 min. at Macy's and Lord & Taylor and around 15 min. at Nordstrom. Though ds1 was asleep the whole time so I was happy. By the time we were leaving though (prob. around 4 or 5) the lines were getting loooonger.

 

How many days do you think this will last for??

According to the info I read about this it starts 1/20 and will continue for 7 days or until stock of the items they are giving away is gone.

Most of the stores are here (Memphis) are already out. I went at lunch yesterday to two Macy's and one Dillards.... then went back to another Dillards and the same Macy's after work. The lines were not bad but the fragrances were gone the quickest.

Went today in Nashville to Green Hills. Macy's just down to Clinque and Estee Lauder Night repair. Dillards had both those, plus about 4 shower gels. No wait at either when I was there, but they did a huge story about it on the news last night and everyone at school was talking about it today. I went during my planning period, which is also lunch, so it was 1.5 hours long!

A class member will be eligible to receive, while supplies last, a maximum of ONE free cosmetics product from one of the Manufacturer Defendants from which he or she purchased Department Store Cosmetics1 during the class period, May 29, 1994 through July 16, 2003, from the list of products below. If a class member has only purchased products, during the class period, from one of the Manufacturer Defendants listed below, then that class member is only entitled to receive a free product from that Manufacturer Defendant. If a class member has purchased products, during the class period, from multiple Manufacturer Defendants, then that class member must choose the ONE free product he or she wishes to claim from one of those Manufacturer Defendants. When you get to any of these stores (the ones handing out make-up) THEY don't tell you what is going on, that you are only supposed to take ONE ITEM ONLY, and so on and so forth.. Even though at every store there's a person standing next to line, they don't utter a single word about it. There might be a plaque somewhere next to the line with the description or whatever..but come on who has time to read it all!!!

So if THEY don't care why should we, right??

I mean it would seem that the only people that would be at a disadvantage here would be the people who get to find out about the deal on the Net and bother to read the settlement..

Common sense is what makes most people think that they cannot grab more than ONE PRODUCT PER STORE...

There were SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS for the settlement and/or stores to handle this in a whole different manner but they CHOSE not to!!!

 

Also here's one more thing I'm personally wondering:

YOU DO REALIZE this is supposed to be ONLY for those people who have bought PRODUCTS from these BRANDS in a specified period of time. I for one, buy all of my make-up from Lancome and all of it comes from either Macy's or Lord & Taylor. Since I use make-up regularly you can imagine how much I have already spent in these two stores and ONE FREE PRODUCT doesn't really make-up for what they were suied for.. (On-top-of that costwise it wasn't more expensive than all of those "promotional gifts" they give you with regular purchases...)

So before you lecture ME on grabbing more than one product why don't you first lecture all of those people (maybe yourself included) who were not supposed to get ANY PRODUCTS.

Just for the record we did both "Legally" qualify for our free products, but even if we hadn't I'd have still gone.

I wasn't lecturing you or anyone else. I was letting people know that it is for one item only. Like you said it wasn't communicated well in the media and at the stores. I read it on the Cosmetics settlement website. Since not everyone did, or knew where to find the info I posted it so if anyone else looked at this post for information.

 

I have also been purchasing cosmetics from these brands (Clinique and Estee Lauder for skincare and makeup and Chanel for fragrance and makeup.) from many of these retailers, (Nordstrom, Macys and Dillards) since at least 1995 when I purchased my first skincare set from Clinique)

 

I picked one product, because when I read that a settlement had been reached (on Consumerist.com) I linked to the settlement website, because I had signed up on their site about a year ago and read the details of the settlement.

Hi - I believe it was 7 days or until items run out. I called our local Target and they were not running it since they did not carry those brands. Maybe larger Targets would have it? May be worth a call.
