Guest CS.Dean
I was in the local Best Buy today and actually found someone willing to share a bit of info. The laptop that will be sold cheap($209 to $229 range) this year will possibly be a Dell. The drawback is NO CD/DVD drive. I believe this is really good info because the person volunteering it has been really go on info in the past ( he is the floor manager). What looks like the best deal is going to be 2 different TV's. One is an incredible deal ( like 60% off normal price). The really good deals will be in the online addition like they did last year. The desktop will be like the last 2 years ( $199). I have 2 different people in this particular store that are really good about giving info to me and my wife. Yes there is some secrecy surrounding the deals but they cooperate a lot more than Wal Mart.

Brad
Not that I'm doubting your info, but I find it very hard to believe that Dell would build such a system for BB when it would compete directly with their own BF sales. It would be very hard for Dell to sell a laptop for $349 or some other low price when BB has a Dell for $229. Unless it's one of their netbooks. That I could see happening, (and it might not even be all that great of a deal at $229)
Guest CS.Dean
Something we noticed that was odd while we were there. Usually when you bought a laptop at this store they had to retrieve it from a locked cage for storage. They had a display of 3 different( all from this weeks sale ad) laptops stacked in a floor display. I have never in all the years I have went into this store seen that. From the description I was getting on the laptop it was being portrayed as a netbook style item. Very basic with nothing extra built into it. It was also being portrayed as a 1 time deal that they were carrying. They were VERY well stocked on just about every laptop on display as well. cireafan
The BF doorbuster laptop as part of their secret sale not listed in the ad will be a Toshiba, according to the Best Buy manager. He would not give me the model number, though.

racerfan
I was at BB yesterday and spoke to someone in the computer area. We were discussing anti virus packages and something to get to make our printer wireless so that we can print from our laptops anywhere. I asked him about Black Friday and he said and I will quote "I have seen the ad and we are going to blow another 150 Circuity City stores out of the water with it" He would not give any information because he said that they are told that if they leak info it is an instant dismissal. I am getting so excited I cant wait to see the BB ad.

In the past I've gone to Circuity City as my first stop, perhaps this year will be different. Plus, competition amongst chain retailers is good for us... hoping for an awesome Black Friday this year. Last year I tried to go to BB but the line was so long that we ended up going to CC. It was only 5:30pm Thanksgiving and the line wa already to the corner of the building at BB. We ended up being # 11 & 12 at CC until the line jumpers showed up:(

That makes the laptop and without that I might as well play with my kids XO laptop. Even the ones that that had last year for $150 had a CD/DVD drive. Maybe thay mean it will be a different type of drive. Again, I hope that info is wrong.. Edited November 10, 2008 by deelite Spell Check!! ashley1013
I went to BB this morning, picked up the 299 laptop for my mom. Anyways while we were standing outside, one of the loss prevention guys came out to talk to us, he said that BB may open at 12am on bf. He said this is what they are planning but that it's not a def yet. So who knows? It would be cool if they did that, then I would be able to go home and snooze a bit before hitting the rest of the stores, but then again people might start camping out on Tuesday and it could get more hectic than it already has become in the last few yrs. I think BB is just lucky that they have no real competition, because they aren't anything to write home about. CC just knows how to disappoint you more than BB when you enter their store. AaronOnline
I haven't heard anything, not even rumors, about a cheaper Xbox sadly to say. I am really hoping and praying for a low cost Rock Band 2 bundle or even just the drumkit... but, again, haven't even heard rumors about them at this point. pettit03
We haven't heard anything on the ad. All the planning that we are doing at our store is based on what we think we will see in the ad. Almost always the ad gets leaked on the internet before it gets to employees at BBY.

Brad
Keep in mind that Best Buy has threatened to terminate any affiliate who posts their ad early, so it may or may not appear on the actual BF site, but we'll do our best to get the info out there.
