Bump, jokingly the DW asked last night that "we don't need one-right?" meaning, she's throwing a line out there to see what we'll get each other.

I have tried to figure out which ones are listed and do a google search on reviews - but I can't find all of them (as of yet), so I'll just create my shopping list with all of them in it and then do the comparison from there.

I have a friend who travels for work in her car constantly and she first bought an $800.00 Tomtom. She had nothing but problems with it not working, the screen blanking out ect. She purchased the extended warranty plan and Best Buy finally got tired of giving her new Tomtoms and they gave her a Garmin replacement. It's been over a year and she hasn't had one problem. She literally uses it daily.

I think that TomTom is the only company that offers free map software updates right now. For that reason alone, I'd seriously consider shopping their products. I love my Garmin handheld GPS, but if I want the maps updated, I have to buy a ~$100 piece of software.

We're up to 12 different units.

we are looking for one right now too. we are seriously looking at this one for $239.99. its even $60 cheaper than walmart.com.

.

Hmmm...well, I can't include the link that was in the original message I'm trying to quote, but it's a Garmin c340 and was listed at Amazon.

I got this one last year at Circuit City on BF for about the same price. It was a very good deal then, as others had it for $20 - $40 more for BF. We've been happy. I downloaded some new voices and so far "Lee", my hunky Australian has steered me right, although DH has a preference for "Jill" and "Emily".

The TomTom One seems to be the best one going for under $150. From what I've read, TomTom provides FREE map updates -- I know for a fact that Garmin charges -- not sure about the others.

If you have the clams ($399.99), the Garmin nuvi 660 @ Best Buy seems to be the best one out there for BF.

This guy has some detailed reviews and in this article promises to update his picks on the GPS units available on Black Friday. Will be very helpful if he follows up on this. He seems to be updating fairly well. I have no idea what to look for in a GPS unit so perhaps this resource will help: http://www.gpslodge.com/archives/014211.php

Might check out the home page also: http://www.gpslodge.com/

If you look at my OP, GPSLodge is the source of many of the reviews. :yup:

there seems to be many different versions of the tomtom ONE

so which store sells which models? any of them selling the 3rd edition?

None of the stores are selling the 3rd edition at BF prices from what I gather. The TomTom One LE at Best Buy will be a compromise between the standard and the 3rd edition. Apparently it will be a BB exclusive.

EDIT: We now have ads listing the 3rd edition... We didn't when I made the above statement.

A lot of these aren't that great deals. With a little research, many of these can be bought on line now for the same or a little higher price, and with free shipping.
